Hey /r9k/ I was offered by my doctor to be put on a Benzo and SSRI combination treatment for extreme anxiety which is making one of my other illnesses even more severe and painful (not going to talk about it so dont ask)
What I'm looking to get out of it is obviously a decrease in anxiety, but I also have daily thoughts about suicide and my emotions rule me entirely on a daily basis. I kinda of want to change my consciousness to be less miserable and self loathing.
I haven't told my doctor about that part since she is a GI specialist but I have an opportunity for two birds with one stone kinda thing.
My question is, do any of you have experience with either SSRIs or Benzos or perhaps both? What it like being on one? I'd really like to know your thoughts on these drugs.
Benzos are a motherfucker to get off of, and are very easy to get addicted to. If you don't have them for a couple of days after prolonged use, you'll start to question reality and whether or not there's any consequences to any action you take. Proceed with caution
Do you know the specific drugs they are planning on prescribing? Lot of variation in those drug classes. That being said SSRI's are a bit zombifying but that sounds like something that might be appreciated by you at the moment, its a give and a take and sometimes the positives outweigh negatives.
Benzos are a whole different beast though. Do you know if they want to prescribe you benzos to take every day or just in the even of a panic attack? If it is the former be prepared for benzo addiction which really sucks. It will help anxiety but tolerance builds scary fast and once you're at a couple milligrams of these drugs coming off is just not an option. Be prepared for that. Once again, if you are about to put a bullet in your brain maybe being addicted to prescription benzo's isn't as bad as being miserable, but just be aware.
