Hey /r9k/ I'm going through a very difficult time in my life and have become desperate for relief.
I've seen threads and heard about some of you trying meditation to ease anxiety, stress, or depression.
But I have so many questions since there are so many types of meditations out there. Which is most effective for alleviating the above problems? How do you do it? Did it work for you?
My favorite meditation is called "The Smirnoff Method".
I use yoga and breathing techniques mostly. They can put me in really weird states where I'm floating outside my body or looking at myself from across the room.
Standard meditation isn't very difficult. Sit down somewhere quiet and look at your thoughts in the third-person, making sure not to dwell on them or judge them.

Start small. Pretty much all meditation is about focus and calm.
Pick a simple, peaceful sensation, motion, or image to focus on, like your breathing, your stride, or an imaginary scene on a sunny lawn.

Your mind will wander. Catch yourself, remind yourself it's okay, bring your attention back where you want it.
Notice how you can't help but feel the anxiety, tension, pain, worry, melt away under the warm imaginary sun, or float away on each revitalizing breath.
Rinse and repeat.
Start with one minute. No more than five.
