Are there any Robots here who have a doctorate? I'm considering getting a doctorate in psychology but I'm not sure if it's worth it.
Yes, I have one of those. If you want to hide in the shadows, there are ways of doing that in research, but the main caveat is that you'll have to find a manager-type to attach yourself to. If you want to actually pose and follow a research agenda of your own, you'll find it's primarily a social exercise. Also you need to be at least somewhat comfortable with public speaking; it's possible to reduce the number of talks you give, but it may not be possible to give none at all.
