Basically, she often comes to me feeling depressed, lonely, and whatnot. She feels like she has no friends, has problems trusting people, and generally doesn't feel fulfilled in her life.
But the thing is, she clearly does have friends. She has a boyfriend and she's actually decently popular. She often goes out to socialize with her friends and to parties and stuff.

My family is pretty toxic. Not in the hyper abusive, shouty ugly way but in a drag you down, emotionally unavailable, manipulative way. You need to give them a serious talking to. As in, tell them explicitly how they make you feel, and that you don't want to talk to them because all they do is make you feel like shit. You'll have a back and forth, things may get resolved, things may get worse, whatever. You won't know until you do it. Based on what happens with that conversation, you navigate your relationship with them accordingly. Just dropping them out of nowhere with no explanation is ridiculous.

Not occasionally, no. If you're trying to dictate his style into what you prefer its getting a bit controlling.
