Has anyone here worked 4 10 hour shifts instead of 5 8 hour shifts?
There's a government job that I feel extremely qualified for - it also pays $26k more than I'm making now. Plus, the added bonus is that I would have three day weekends. That seems amazing.
But, 7AM - 6PM workdays sound kind of rough, and the office is 32 minutes away from my house without traffic. That means I'd get home at 7ish, and really only have 3 hours or so to do anything before it was time to get right back to bed and start all over. Right now, I'm 10 minutes away...

Sounds like you'd be stupid not to take it. I feel like having a full extra day off, each week, would more than make up for the reduced free time on your work days. So you pretty much break even on the "free time" front, and you get a $26k pay increase. Tough to see a downside
the extra day off is pretty great
if you have like a wife and kids it could suck since your spouse would have a lot of time without you
but if you don't have those, imo it's a nice schedule to have

Yeah, I have no family to speak of, just two roommates. I also love to travel, so this would give me a lot more freedom to do that.
All in all, I also hate my current job, I just don't want to do the whole "grass is greener" approach and end up unhappy.
/adv/ I need some morale support because I just got my first cold sore. It's been stressing me out and I can't stop focusing on it. This is all new to me and I'm aware it's a common occurrence so there's no use being devastated by it but I can't shake the fact that I have this thing on my face and have no clue when it's going to go away nor i have any idea how frequently it's going to occur. Thing about that is that we've already been on 'dates', in terms of getting to know each other and whatnot, which is the most appealing thing to me about dinner dates. I just want to create a more romantic atmosphere.

How do I quell cravings? Today I am starting two major shifts - a major diet, and I'm cutting out alcohol (the harder part, since I'm an alcoholic).
I've considered pausing on the diet part until I get a handle on the booze, but does anyone else have any suggestions? I have the urge to consume everything and dinner time isn't very far away.
dieting doesn't work. guaranteed failure. learn about nutrition and eat a varied diet. lean complete proteins, vegetables like spinach, broccoli, sweet potato, whole grains like brown rice, ect.
limit sugar, refined carbs. if you weight lift (can be body weight) and build muscle, you will burn more calories throughout the day at rest. you can eat as much as you want really (within reason). burned calories should mostly come through high intensity muscle stimulating workouts. if you try to restrict calories, you may succeed and be miserable for a little bit and lose weight, but you will be skinny fat and that isn't attractive either.

yes alcohol is loaded with calories, so you're going to need to only drink in moderation, no question. a beer is like 200 empty calories.
and again, dieting doesnt work. nutrition does. you need to properly fuel your body when you workout and hit your macronutrients (fats, carbs, protein) for muscle growth.
i've never had to deal with alcohol addiction, so i wont pretend to know how hard it is, but you have no choice in the matter.

What would you say is the optimum amount of episodes of an anime to watch per day to get the most enjoyment out of it?
I try to limit myself to 10 episodes per day of a typical 25 episode anime so I have a break to comprehend everything. But if I am really enjoying a show sometimes I watch much more than that. The downside is that I feel like I'm burning the candle too quickly if that metaphor makes sense.
I suppose the question also works for Netflix shows.

I'd say between 2 and 4 per show with a max of 3 shows. A good combination is a more serious shoe with a funny show like cromartie high or yuru yuri on the side.

Did you ever consider that maybe you just do this to feel edgy? I was "gay" when I was 18 because I was edgy, had gay sex once, and then realized I was just being an edgy teen and was actually 90% straight.
Does anyone else have this problem? I've been doing it for a few years now and I can't stop. I pick my fingers, lips, pimples, scabs. It gets annoying when the scars are visible and others ask about it. I mostly do it when I'm nervous. Sometimes I don't even realize I'm doing it.

I have the same problem. It got so bad that (combined with my terrible hs acne) I now have two symmetrical scars on my face that facial hair won't grow on and are very noticeable. Now I don't have acne anymore but I still occasionally bite the skin around my nails and my lips/inside of cheek when bored.
