Lucy Allan, MP for Telford, has faked a death threat against her, avoiding libel by attaching it to an email from someone who used a pseudonym.

Mainstream news outlets are refusing to cover it; she's a tory, Leveson enquiry.

Why is the word resign in quotation marks?
What is being implied here?
>>
>>6455
Resign is a quote. The guy whose email she edited said she should resign.
>>
>>6457
Yeah, that may be technically true but that doesn't change that it has implications to do it this way, especially since there is no point in quoting just the one word.
If he really said that, then the quote should be "'should resign'". This actually carries the implication that this is not the article's writer's opinion.
But a simple 'MP told to resign' without any quotation marks at all would work just as well.

Moscow, December 2, Interfax - According to some reports, two Syrian hierarchs, namely Orthodox Church of Antioch Metropolitan of Aleppo Paul and Syro-Jacobite Metropolitan of Aleppo John-Ibrahim, kidnapped in 2013, were executed.

"The source said that Abdurakhmanov showed a video in which the kidnapped metropolitans were filmed and also reaffirmed that they were executed," the source said.

The inter-faction deputy group intended to urgently turn to the Turkish authorities for confirmation of the detention of Abdurakhmanov and the information he produced...

Expect Comcast CMSCA 0.00% , AT&T T 0.44% and Verizon VZ -0.31% to have interest (yes, Verizon already bought AOL, but that was more for the ad biz).

So if Yahoo closes, what happens to Tumblr?
>>

I think it might be more accurate to think of it as a rebranding and restructuring of Yahoo to AliBaba more than it is closing, but that depends on #3, if there are any companies waiting in the wings to snap up the bits and pieces they want to liquidate in the mean time.

This is another one of the original pre-1999 dotcom-bubble internet companies without a strong business model is biting the dust. It just reconfirms (for me at least) that most of those old companies were worthless to start with. Very few today remember...

Rahm is scapegoating the poor guy, but he had a bad rep from what I hear anyway and would have probably left on his own soon in the first place if not for Rahm saving face.

It's really all about the video, you know the one. They never intended the public to see it but couldn't find a way to conveniently get rid of it before that guy filed the FOIA request months ago. Now the whole city government is in damage control while the rampage on the streets continues.

the hackers just steal user credentials and sell those, so there isn't a good way of preventing it that isn't already implemented.

/news/ is a text board for sharing and discussing current news articles. When starting a thread you must include the complete URL of a news article from a credible news site (for instance, a newspaper, news magazine, or a news TV channel). Blogs and editorial articles are not acceptable news sources. News articles must be recent! Nothing older than 48 hours please. Threads older than 48 hours will cease to bump when replied to. Please note that 4chan's global rules are in effect. Blatant trolling and racism is not permitted.

Please note that news, news articles, and current events can also be discussed on /pol/; however /news/ is exclusively for recent news articles, and not general discussions of politics, social phenomenon, or world events.

Please note that although /news/ is a text board, the thread creator is permitted to upload an image to the original post. All replies to the thread, however, are to be strictly text only.

who cares just let it lead to good discussion here. the only real topics on /pol/ were history and current events and NIGGER SPAM. now that history has a fairly successful board lets let this current event board be pretty comfy.

/k/ and /pol/ has always overlapped so let the overlap occur here
