This is a thread to fluff up the Sanguine Shields, a chapter created using the Space Marine Creation Table, specifically about making them more compatible with official lore and making this chapter of post apocalyptic Macedonians more...post apocalyptic.

My players and I prefer detective style superhero games. There's lots of mind games while also letting loose at times to see the dice fall and throw car sized spears at building sized scorpions.

A campaign that takes itself moderately seriously. Nobel Dark setting. Probably something out of the 1980s It's always night and there are neon lights everwhere.
I.E. Dark Future where corporations rule and the players are cyber punks fighting against the man (see image)
Other option: Combine the following settings into one game: Mad max, Shadowrun,Vampire The (masquerade/requiem), Tank girl, Deus Ex. (basically 80s to early 90s)

I really don't think Lightning Helix is particularly overpowered. I mean, it's good. Great even, but it's not even run in every burn variant.

Lightning helix is a close second, but the R/W mana requirement severely limits the amount of decks that can use it.

Be on friendly enough terms that you'd never kill one another, because otherwise your rival won't last long. Or you won't. My point, you get it. You should have some clashing personality points that make it easy to hate them when they beat you, but something that makes it easy to lend them a hand when important or to team up against a larger common enemy.
Make them be on equal footing as you, but in a different area. You're strong and clever? They're quick and knowledgeable. You have a lot of money? They know how to get things without using a single coin. Avoid making one a mage and the other not unless it's a system where the two are fairly balanced in terms of where your characters' rivalry matters.
Finally, a common trusted ally always helps. This means even if Douchebag crosses the line and does something unforgivable, you can always fall back on your trusty childhood friend for moral aid or to try and find a solution that isn't homicide.
Of course, if killing your rival is the most satisfactory way to end things in the story of the character, go for it. Just make it worth the loss of a dynamic.
Be The Entire Horse. Don't just have fights to the death. Do smaller competitions and team-ups too.

Looking up what's left of that fat bastard is a bit disturbing, I mean I know whatever was left of him was dead when it happened, but it's still hard to look at what's left of his face twisted in pain on the back of the corpse hopper.
It's almost hard to beileve this thing was ever human, it doesn't look like it. A cold feeling sinks into my gut as I remember I was tainted once, and a hiver...still am the latter but..only technically. Could this have happened to me? Could I have become something like he did? a monster who only cared about finding something to stuff his mouth with.
I groan and shiver, wrapping my wings around me as I turn away from the once living statue and start walking down the road of mapleburrow...or what's left of it. It feels like I'm walking through the end of a war movie, and not one of the one's Sam liked, but the ones that were always so depressing.
A few of the townsfolk stop and kneel into prayer as I walk past them, holding seven fingers out as they clasp their hands together and mummer prayers.
I stop when I realize all of them are doing it, having set down their tools just to kneel in front of me.
I...I start to feel a bit nervous, but...happy for some reason. It almost feels like right after you drink some hot chocolate on a cold day, just a pleasant warmth in my chest. And in the back of my head, I feel a little smug about the whole thing, remembering how I used to be treated before I died. I shake my head in disgust, dashing those thoughts away as the prayers get louder

The warm breeze wafts in as I sit in my chair - it's a beautiful June day to be relaxing in the office.
"It's good to be president," I smirk to myself, "and even better when the Dems don't know what's going on."
Suddenly, a sphere of energy begins to form in the middle of the Oval Office. Electricity shoots out in all directions, and when it dissipates, an African American man emerges from the smoke, crouched on the floor.
"Who are you?" I demand, "And where did you come from?"
The man stands up, fully revealing himself before me. The full view leaves me feeling impressed, yet a bit self conscious.
"My name is Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States. A pleasure to meet you, President Nixon."
"44th? But that means.. You're from the future! How is this possible?"
"My green initiatives granted me the power to control the weather, and eventually time itself. But that's not important - I carry a warning for you - in seven days you will be caught in one of the worst scandals in U.S. history. It will permanently damage the trust the American people have in their president. Your name will become synonymous with trickery, deceit, and kangaroo bestiality. This must not come to pass!" The naked president from the future declared. "I must go now though my time is up. Good luck!"
With a parting wave and another flash, the man is gone. I am once again alone in the office, save for the picture of George Washington, staring down at me with his goat eyes and jaundiced skin as usual. I start to consider all that was said, when I hear a knock on the door.

The torrent of water that falls upon your head is as loud as it is heavy. The constant gushing downpour gets in your eyes and blinds you to the beautiful sight of the forest that hides this treasure.
At least that's what this vista appeared to be when you spied it from afar. Now it seems much less a treasure and more a roiling, raging monster that is unrelenting in its attack.
You have no idea how Gabby can find peace in such painful and disturbing conditions. You'll never find your center like this.
You turn your head to where she sits beside you, despite the supposed futility of the act. By some miraculous fortune you are granted sight and let your gaze drink in Gabby's form. She's . . .
“Why are you naked?” you quickly inquire, as water fills your mouth and restricts your speech.
She laughs as she looks at you, her eyes crinkling in mirth. “Do you want to walk home in wet clothes, Al?” Obviously you don't. It's why you're naked as well. But still, no matter how hard you try you can't seem to focus your mind.
“This isn't working, Gabby!” you shout over the waterfall's roaring.
“Of course it's not,” she agrees, “You've gotta be at one with yourself to access your ki. And we're not going to accomplish that by meditating, are we?”
The expression on her face changes. Her standard grumpily content visage shifts to a much more knowing one.

You are Ur'shal, Chieftain of the Stonetusk Clan and Warlord of the Wastes. Time ticks by as you prepare for war, and while there has still been no word back from your spies, you may soon be forced to make your move regardless.
Your scouts to the north and south have both returned from their scouting missions, Or'kug bringing not only news of the orc clans skulking the coast of Mohr Swamp, but also a few clanless young warriors eager to claim some glory and plunder of their own. They are not the most hardy examples of your race you've ever encountered, and you suspect that they are more the dregs who failed to claim any glory at sea amidst their more powerful peers, still, more orcs are more orcs, and with your conflict with Slaagyr looming, you won't turn away more muscle.
The mission north bears interesting news of its own. Joachim's cult has infested the tunnels beneath the mountain where Slaagyr makes his home, a pestilent mix of humans and ghouls wallowing in filth and gore to praise their goat-headed god. Your scouts bring stories of great mounds of corpses left to rot, thick with insects, the caverns used as communal feeding chambers for the weaker of the cult reduced to little more than animals, of ritual halls where the howling faithful set upon captives and tear them limb from limb to the exaltations of Joachim's priesthood.

Fortunately, for all the foulness of the cult, they appear scattered and disorganized, well suited for fending off the occasional skirmish by nearby Kulakin nests, but lacking the planned fortifications, discipline or force of arms to survive a concentrated assault. Still, your clan have yet to be able to penetrate far enough to figure out the route to the main camp, or to Slaagyr's own roost, if indeed such a route exists within the tunnels at all.

No, you do not.
You may have one side killing lots of guys on the other side, but you can't have a real fight.
Realistically, sooner or later the side with a lower technological level would get their hands on old weapons from the superior side (which is why Civilization is unrealistic), so you get a situation like in the middle east.
But in your scenario where they just stick to their traditional weaponry there is no way they can put up a fight.
