/int/ crossboarder here. I'm an American who moved to Vietnam for business. No, I'm not an English teacher.
Vietnam is an extremely traditional country with very restrictive and old-fashioned gender roles, at least in the less developed parts. Having experienced what true patriarchy is like, I'm going to blow up a few robot myths about it right now.

Women chase Chad even harder in a truly patriarchal country, because whom they choose for sex is permanent and defines their entire life. They can't experiment with different types of guys or consider "more important things" than looks and money. If they don't get married to a successful alpha before 25 they are in serious financial trouble forever. Chad is simply the only good option, because women in traditional places depend 100% on the success of their men. And successful men tend to be good-looking, from prestigious families, and alpha in their behavior. Why? Because that's the traditional role of a man. These guys not only get to marry any 23-year-old girl they want, but they also get as many concubines as they need after she gets too old to pleasure them sexually. You will never pick up Chad's scraps or "settle for a less attractive girl." Chad is EVERY girl's best option, even after he's married. I am pretty much an uber-chad here, and whores will often offer to leave their boyfriends or have sex with me on the side in exchange for favors and the possibility of someday being a permanent part of my life. It's fucked up and makes me feel sorry for both them and their boyfriends.

Did you ever wonder why every single culture has myths about the deception and danger of the weaker sex? Women have no official social power in a traditional culture. As a result, they have to resort to some real bullshit to assert themselves and get what they want. It's a pretty simple concept, actually. Pretty much everything you guys hate about women is worse in traditional cultures. They are insecure, conniving, dishonest, and untrustworthy, because if they don't act that way they will get treated like slaves.

Wrong. I have seen very few marriages in this area that don't seem like hell on earth. Since it's an open secret that the men cheat and lie constantly, there's no trust in anyone's marriage after a certain time. You can't escape this, even if you're an honest man... It's just the cultural norm. Once the flame dies, your marriage doesn't enter that comfy sunset phase that some Western marriages have. Instead it basically just turns completely sour. You and your wife become bitter and angry at each other, and since the kids never leave home (they take care of the parents in these societies) there's no breathing room or opportunity to "putter around" in one's middle age.

They shave any potentially remaining hair off that grows and grow a fucking manly beard to show off how much they don't give a fuck. Shit is not fun senpai. I woke up at about 7:00 AM yesterday after going to bed at like 2:00 AM. It's 4:00 AM now and I'm still up, probably won't even get to sleep until I finish my classes today at 4:45 PM. I know it's because of my caffeine problem though. I drink tons of energy drinks because they're literally motivation in a can and I just can't get the motivation to do anything without them, but I hate being awake for so long because the only real peace I get is when I'm asleep.

Me, I have an advanced nailbiting technique. Never bite that low, it's just going to be unpleasant, learned this from experience. I eat all of my cuticles and nails(toes included) and my hands look completely normal for the most part.
