It depends on the person and how long they've been in that kind of life. Listening to people who haven't left the house for 6 months is one thing since you can probably convince them that can get better. Yet, if they've been a complete shut in for 10 years it's doubtful. After the first 5 years things it gets less depressing and you quit even think about it since that's kind of all you know anymore. At least, that's my experience with it.
Also, we need Misaki but we don't have her.
Just got the book recently, it was kinda shit. I think it had a bad translation. Cant relate to the Violence and Drugs part. The anime was better.
