I think it's time that we begin to have generals on /r9k/ that are either intellectual or educational. We have thousands of lurkers on this board daily that are educated and/or professional at one thing or another.
I believe it to be imperative to our community that we not only sling dank memes at one another but also grow as individuals in one way or another. The amount of expertise/knowledge that can be shared between individuals is amazing, and is also often neglected in favor of spouting shitty memes. 90% of people that browse 4chan either rarely post or never have. These people may come to our board in the search of dank memes, but they also come here for interesting discussion and a sense of community.
With my intentions made clear I would like to begin the discussion with a few questions about a hobby I would like to get into; chess!
My grandfather is big into chess and was the one who taught me how to play as a young child. Around the age of 12 I stopped playing, and haven't really got back into it since.
I'm looking to get into chess and at some point would like to be at least competent enough to play at a tournament level. How should I as a novice chess player get into the game, and what are the best resources for a up and coming chess player?
Also, general chess discussion and other intellectual discussion is more thank welcome!

Been taking Lexapro for about a month now. The week before I started the pills, I was really close to hanging myself, at my preferred spot with the rope tied and all.
