Is biomedical engineering a worthy and fulfilling career /adv/? Will I be able to find a job?

My brother is a bio-engineer but he got that as his masters, his original degree is in biology.

He works at some huge Biotech company now. I don't know how competitive it is, but some people do make it out of school with a job

>Is biomedical engineering a worthy and fulfilling career /adv/?

There will be need for them, but it is very specialized major that more often that not is a feeder major for grad school.

>Will I be able to find a job?

Are you willing to compete for 4 years against doctor wannabes who can understand bio, engineering, and complex math?

Anyone here have experience with pheromone perfume?
Does it actually work or is it just a scam?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I have enough experience with science to know it's a scam.
>>
>>16615069

if it actually worked it'd be screamed from the rooftops. theyd be out of product so fast cuz we'd be buying it by the gallon.

theres truth to the idea that certain scenes and pheremones and such can actually attract women (When i was younger the rumor was mixing a tiny bit of your own piss in your aftershave will do the job)

but the point remains that humans, yes even women, are too evolved for something as simple as pheremones to do you any good. if you cant actually want to attract women you need the things that attract them. science will only give you a little extra point.
>>
Humans can not actually detect "pheromones".

Hey how does your feel? I feel that now that I am reaching the age of 22 that my whole life is dying. Like a new phase and everybody around me is growing into a new phase as well. Its as if all the things I wanted to achieve in the past are gone and now I have to do something new. Its kinda of depressing and all the people I knew are now moving on as well. Maybe the door closed on my old life and I can let it go. Hopefully the new life will be everything I wished for.

Do you understand me?

Nope.

this is normal. 22 is about the age you leave college, so im guessing this is what you mean.

if you ever watch buffy the vampire slayer, they had an excellent metaphor for this.

in season 5 she died.

in season 6, she came back to life. she was miserable being alive, because (while dead) she was in heaven, and how that she is alive again reality is nothing but suffering, so she becomes depressed.

the metaphor here is that college (Which she stopped attending after season 5) is in fact heaven. its the best time of your life. its all fun and games, and sure there is work, but its really cushy compared to going out and figuring life on your own.

aftercollege everyone sorta 'loses' themselves. its no longer about the parties and hanging out and friends. everyone gets thrown into the world and has to figure out what they are doing with their lives.

everyone gets passed it. you will to.

i find the best way to get through it is just have a solid plan. figure out your job, where you wanna live, and quickly get settled and then do your best to find (or e ven create) a group of friends.

I'm currently unemployed at the moment living in an apartment with my girlfriend. I've been trying up the ass to find a job, but can't seem to land anything. I need some method of acquiring some income and I guess the only way it's possible is through the best means, which would be internet. What are some reliable ways to do this? I'm taking this seriously, so i'll take any good method and work hard for results.

>what are some reliable ways to do this

there arent any. there are literally no reliable ways to make money on the internet. everything is inconsistent, and mosdt of the bubbles have already burst. you can still make money those ways but its more difficult by the minute and it takes a lot of ground work to get there.

also
>only way its possible is through the best means
>which would be the internet

this isn't true, at fucking all. the best way to make money is to just keep applying for a job til you get one.

HELP! I need advice on ways to prevent/fix wrinkles.

I'm 24 and already am starting to have laugh lines show even when not smiling and my forehead creases are getting worse. I've always had dry skin and known I should moisturize more but I didn't think this shit would start until I was 30.

Give me all the tips you can for skin care. Diets, products, vitamins. I don't want to look like a leather handbag when I'm 30. I should point out that I am fair skinned, stay out of the sun, but do have naturally dry skin.

>I've always had dry skin and known I should moisturize more

Fucking do it. Do it now. CeraVe moisturizing cream (in the tub). Non-comedogenic, not too greasy, one of the best options that works for most people.

The lines you have aren't wrinkles, it's dry skin.
>>
>but do have naturally dry skin.

You are gonna age quickly, it's just how it is.

Some people are born with oily skin and age extremely slowly, but have to deal with zits and acne.

Other than moisturizing (which could block up your pores and make you break out) you can't really do much.

Just don't let it bother you and just live with it, letting stuff like that get in your head will just stress you out and make your quality of life less good.

My girlfriend and I have both decided to have intercourse. It's the first time for both of us so I was wondering what condoms are the best. In the department of not breaking
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Condoms are somewhat of a personal preference.
Most condoms are extremely durable with average use.

You might want to go with the thinner ones for your pleasure.

Make sure you use lube because condoms can dry out quickly.
>>
>>16614952
I don't even pick condoms by style anymore, just buy whatever is cheapest. Since it's your first time with her I'd take her to pick them out. That shit would be hilarious.

As long as it doesn't come out of the vending machine of a rest stop bathroom, you're good.

Make sure you don't store them in your wallet, or expose them to high heat/tear them/some stupid shit to damage them. And make sure you learn how to put them on correctly. Common sense applies here.

This is a long story, but I'll try to keep it short.

In 2011, while staying with my father overseas, I was told out of the blue by my brother-in-law that I'd molested their son, my nephew, and was no longer welcome at their house.

The police were involved, spoke to me about it for less than 10 minutes, and I've never heard from them again.

I returned to my home country shortly afterwards, as my whole father's side of the family seemed to believe the accusation, so there was no point in staying.

Anyway, I recently got a copy of my medical file and discovered that while I was in the US, my caregiver, who was abusive and negligent growing up, had gone to my GP and told her there were two accusations, and that they both were true. This was written on my permanent medical record, as well as in a referral the GP made to a mental health service.

I've since got a copy of the file from the mental health service, and the one referral has spawned dozens of documents from various clinicians over the years repeatedly mentioning multiple accusations, and making speculations about "sexual identity" and "sexual identity problems". Of course, over the past 4 years that I've been in and out of interaction with the service, I was told nothing about this, or of how many people in the service knew. It's a concern, because obviously people assume accusations like this are true by default.

But that's a separate problem. First I want to approach the GP about either removing any reference in their file to it entirely, or at least correcting the documents to refer to it as one accusation. We can apply to correct our information, but they have no obligation to do it. The best I can hope for is the wanted corrections to be attached.

What would you do to convince this GP, who's been repeatedly poisoned against me by my manipulative caregiver throughout my childhood (she would do this with everyone, presumably to hide her abusive tendencies), to remove or alter the information?

How do I become a microbiologist? Is the career market for them impossible to find jobs like other STEM majors?
2 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
The hard aspect to finding a job is that there's no single "microbiologist job." The skill set fits into a variety of fields and careers. You could go into industrial research, med/pharma corporations, food and beverage industries, public health, hospital labs, etc. You have to be tenacious in finding any and every little nook and cranny in which you could fit. I know a microbio major who ended up finding a job at a cosmetics company of all places, but it turned out to be a wonderful score.

Take the major, try to get into an accelerated program (5 year MSc, for example) and network as much as possible. Get in close with people in your department and join any societies and organizations which you can.

Yesterday I stumbled across an article about weak chin, facial structure, etc.

The article basically explained that how you breath as you grow up has a big impact on how your face is going to look like. So for example, if you breath through your mouth, the tendency is for you to have a weak chin.

Now everytime I look myself in the mirror I can't stop thinking about how I would've looked better if I actually properly breathed thorugh my childhood.

Now I think i'm deformed and feel sad when I think about my appearance. What to do?

your weak jawline is related to genetics, nothing naturally can fix that.
>>
Save up and get surgery. Nothing you can do about it except for surgery. Or you can just accept the way you look.
>>
>>16614854
They posted an image of 2 twins. The 2 was taught how to stop breath through their mouth and to start breathing through their nose.

Only one of them actually practiced it. After a few years they looked very different.

Of course, that change is only going to happen when people are still developiing

I have a friend that has hit a bit of a slump in his life. He pushes people away when he feels himself getting close to them. He comes and he goes in and out of my life. He drinks heavily and wonders why no one accepts who he is. Thing is, he doesn't even accept himself. The cycle continues and gets worse each time.

I come wondering what to do. It's going to be 2016 in a few days and I'm thinking of cutting him off for good. I'd like to keep him as a friend but this is getting painful, even for me.

He asks what I think about all this and I've been kind of passive. Enough is enough.
I'd like to give him some tough love and tell him the honest, harsh, truth from my point of view. but that might be too much.

Any advice? I'd like to keep him as a friend. He's been good. But I can't keep watching this.

My advice is to skip the tough love. Try it just this once and you'll see how it's a much better approach to life than lecturing people.
>>
>>16614818
I don't want to lecture him but he doesn't see that he's being his own worst enemy. He wants people to be there for him but he pushes anyone that is willing to be there (like me) away.

My second long-term relationship is over (2 years), and I feel like it ended like my first long-term relationship of 5 years.

She told me I'm not willing to change to keep it working, which in my last relationship is all I did, I tried and tired to keep it going making adjustments, and it never worked. So I was scared, I couldn't risk another couple of years to find out I'm not enough for her.

I'm asking for some advice tho, I need to hear people who were in similar situations, and who are in thriving relationships, feeling like shit now dawg. Back to back relationships, feeling like a fuck up, like a girl never thinks I'm enough is hard to swallow; when you put ever hour that you can to make her feel special.

My advice is to perhaps be a little more discerning and intuitive in your dating. From both my personal experience and that with the people I know, it's practically unheard of that problems which end relationships weren't obvious from day 1. People are just too accommodating.

Depressed person here. I like these people. They actually care about your feelings. Unlike others. Tbh go for it.
>>
>>16614776
>>16614897
No, don't do it. They always want the focus on themselves by telling you depressing shit. It gets old quickly. Some are tolerable but going from "my family left me" to "hi" in like 5 messages is a red flag. She may care about your feelings, but not as much as she cares that you care about hers. You'll get involved, get sick of it, threaten to leave, and she'll say "I'll kill myself if you leave me" Then what the fuck you gonna do?

How the fuck do I talk more? I never have anything to say, I'm just there. And when I do talk, it's small talk, and when I'm really open to talking, it's only with family and relatives.
I was on vacation, and coincidentally a friend that I knew from high school was there, so I hit him up and we hung out that day, but really I was just fuckin quiet. I did talk, but it was generic shit, and most of the talking would be by him and I would continue the narrative. On top of that, we were drunk and did something else, and I still didn't really know what to say.
How do you talk more and be more interesting??
