This May I will have completed my first year of a computer science degree. I want to get a summer job.
I know how to program Java (not like an expert, but to the point that you learn in the first year), outside of that I have no skills.
What kind of job can I get with this skill? I don't feel very confident in my skill, since all my programming has been for school, I don't expect a business to come to me and saying "make a program that turns every letter 'a' in a .txt. file into letter 'b.' "

Dear anons,
I have a very dear friend whose behavior sometimes worries me.
He is very clever and very well educated, but it seems that his virtues are matched by opposite extremes.
For example, he is capable of great good, but also capable of annoying people to death.
He cannot help this and since he's easily bored, he keeps manipulating them over and over just to see their reactions, in a distinctly Machiavellian way. In addition to this, he is being secretive and defensive about things no-one caees about.
This person, being intelligent and attractive, is literally flooded with attention from other girls, who pamper him and compete for a ONS with him.
But after some good sex they end up being creeped out by his nonconventional thinking & his ability to annoy them with his stupid or gross manipulative jokes.
Actually, I am surprised they wanna stay with him in first place, because he is used to girls attending to him and so he treats them all like sex toys.
Now, he's come to me complaining he cannot have a stable relationship and girls grow bored of him too soon in the relationship. In addition, he is worried about the fact sometimes he gets obsessed with one single intrusive thought (e.g. a name or a word) and cannot help finding excuses to repeat that same word during the conversation, which annoys people greatly.
So, /adv/... what shall we suggest him?

I feel like if I don't have "proof" that something isn't my fault, then other people must know better and if they're blaming me without any kind of doubt, then there must be something I'm missing.

Is there a resource out there to self-check my communication style and compare it to other people in relationships?
My current girlfriend and I do not communicate well, and I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to communicate effectively. The complaint I have is that she tells me she's going to do X.. and then does Y in the moment. When I try to discuss it with her, she always apologizes, but repeats the behavior. I understandably have a problem with getting "sorrys" instead of results, so I explain that her behavior is bringing me down and I need her to stop.
it's like talking to a wall because then the "you're so mean" and "you talk down to me" and "I don't want to talk about us" start coming out. To me... it's not "mean" to hold people accountable, especially when it affects my emotional and mental health. But this is apparently demeaning?
Is there anywhere I can find examples of successful couples just talking? Or transcripts or something? I want to communicate like a successful couple and if I need to improve my communication, I want to do that.

There's an official test. Take it. Then have her take it.
It will show you both what you appreciate as gestures from others, rating the five categories--Affirmation, Favors, Gifts, Quality Time, and Touch-- from greatest to least. It does a pretty good job of telling you how to make your liver happy and show them you love them best.
As for fighting and shit, no. Idk if there's a service for that...

My girlfriend of four years finally decided to cut the rope, she said she didn't feel anything for me anymore, and that she wanted to break up.
Normally I would talk to her, try and get to the bottom of it and we'd go back being happy despite a little hiccup. Except now, its finally over, she's left me and now I'm all alone.
I don't know what to do here, how did any of you manage to recover from such a rough situation?

After I left my last GF I went to visit my dad for a week and it helped a lot. I just drank beer and played with his dog but it helped remind me that that girl wasn't the centre of the universe.

I'm in my final year of uni, and I've been invited to a social thing with my course. Problem is I took a year out to work so I don't know any of them. Go. Try. Fail, or perhaps succeed. Reflect. Gain wisdom. Then you try again the next time it happens.
That is the process of learning a skill. No one is automatically good at something besides the naturally gifted and the savants. If you want to get better at being social, do it and suck at it, but continue to openly suck at it until you learn how to get better.
If against all odds, social skills still eluded you, you might be developmentally hindered. Anxiety, aspergers, autism, etc...

The best way to never forget a language is to immerse yourself in it.
For example on your social media change your language settings to French and follow French accounts. Keep listening to radio if possible and music. This usually helps if you are still learning.
