Maybe I should just try to save up some money. But who genuinely likes that shit? There's slow ass drivers who take up most of the street and don't even care and you have to deal with asshole police measures that can suck your wallet dry with their speed cameras for going just a bit faster than indicated in a safe straight road, add significant gridlocks to that if you live in a place with pathetically shit road infrastructure.
It's all just unsafe, expensive and anxious garbage. But public transport in where I live is absolutely shitty too, so it's either suffer or nothing.

This, driving with good music on is one of the few things that still makes me legitimately happy. As long as traffic is moving. Sometimes I fantasize about switching careers to be a trucker, it seems like such a peaceful job. Truckers can make up to $70,000 which is as much as I'm making now in a mind-numbing cubicle job.

fast forward 6 years and I can't fucking stand this place. 4chan is the bane of my existence. nothing new happens, people regurgitate the same old opinions, and I just can't care about any of these threads. 4chan is literally fucking worthless. I've outgrown /b/ in a year then spent some time on /fit/, /tv/, /sci/ and /r9k/. this board was my home tho. loved /r9k/ for the greentexts and the interesting people, or outsiders I could relate to. now it has devolved into pure autism, hate and post-ironic humor.
I want to get off this ride.

I've been applying for internships this whole year and I've been in a similar position many times. I don't have an answer for you anon, I really don't fucking know. Something that I did learn though, is that obviously fake enthusiasm is way better than being honest. And in time you might even get really good at faking, so they can't tell (has not happened for me yet, but I'm hoping it will).
Be thankful you don't have to do assessment centers (UK internship and graduate programs have these) where you actually have to do group exercises with other candidates and everyone has to act super extroverted.
