good evening, /tv/
after having reread the original graphic novel earlier this week I also rewatched the Ultimate Cut of Watchmen tonight to compare the two.
I thought the movie was deeply flawed and although it was well-shot it ultimately failed as an adaption of the comic.
- drawn out and unnecessarily violent
- cringe-worthy sex-scene in the owl-ship
- some terrible casting (Veidt and Laurie)
- some terrible characterization (again, Veidt and Laurie)
my biggest gripe with it is that ultimately they just shot all the important scenes but...

Haven't seen the Ultimate Cut or read the GN. I thought the film was stylistically great. I agree that Laurie was terrible, but it was easy to invest in all the others. Veidt just needed better direction and a bit more background/motivation.
Still 100x better than typical capeshit. I can watch this film over and over and still enjoy it; can't do that with typical capeshit.

I liked it but I haven't read the comic.
Though with Game of Thrones I started disliking the series after reading the books, so it could go either way really.

I was also quite disappointed with how they adapted the Watchmaker chapter, as this was easily my favorite part of the book. The scene in the movie was decent, but I really wish they would have shown more of Osterman's past instead of just the accident, the photograph and the crimebusters' meeting.
Everybody in the cinema laughed each time this guy showed his face. The time he showed his face in front of Han, I laughed too, I just couldn't take it.
After seeing this serious, mysterious but patient and competent Darth Vader wearing similar mask and costume and showing his face at long last - a disfigured scary old man face and then you compare it to this kid who shows his face at any opportunity and it's a long haired 20 year old virgin who's really incompetent, angry, destroying his base just for the fuck of it, it really is funny.

i feel like a lot of people are missing the point that he's meant to be conflicted, inexperienced, and way out of his depth. it shows in his dueling scenes, he has no finesse or grace, just pure rage and anger.
i though he was a really well written and acted character desu, the scene with han and him almost surrendering was neat

Shit character, Riot Control Stormtrooper ended up being the Boba Fett of the movie
Phasma only got a little bit of screen time and she's shit.
They hold a gun to her head to lower the shield around the death star and she just does it, knowing that they could destroy the entire station. She hardly even complains about it except to say that a whole squad of storm troopers will come and kill them to turn the shield back on, which they don't. Also they can't turn the shield back on from any other part of the station because bad writing.
Lupita was also bad, just a glib fascimile of Yoda without being a bad ass to back it up.

Kylo Ren isn't even that strong, that's the whole point of his character. You're supposed to think he's strong and intimidating in the beginning of the movie, when in reality he's weak as fuck and just has bursts of rage that come off as powerful, lacking in focus

No. J.J. worked very hard to ensure the movie was halal and pleased the muslim audience.
Also, any loner beta neckbeard shooter probably went to actually see the movie instead of shooting.
