is anyone else irked to see so many people excited about Star Wars? There is a whole generation that is now going to be subjected to this entity that will always live in the shadow of it's historic past. This generation will not get a historic cinematic moment like the past ones did, it will only get a historic financial one when everyone buys into these new movies hoping to recreate the moment they were not even born yet to be a part of. It's disgusting to me in a deep and visceral way. It's like people being excited about a funeral.

I can't imagine anyone who takes filmmaking seriously not being familiar with some kind of baseline critical theory, and with film in particular this means criticism about visual imagery, performance, advertisement, in the vein of Debord, Barthes, Mulvey, Butler, Copjec, whatever. The overhead is at least some understanding of feminism. Once such a person has read, say, a single book I would suppose the whole sjw boogeyman isn't really frightening anymore.

I was convinced that they had nuked Coruscant with the huge deal they made out of it. So they blew up an unknown planet no body ever heard of from the movies, you can't expect the audience to feel any sympathy for that. The more I think about it, the more they should have just nuked Coruscant and shown images of the galactic senate and old jedi temple being destroyed, it would have been a much more familiar and powerful reaction.
