MTG DECLINES IN Q1 2016, this marks further decline in Magic The Gathering.

we'll call it face-to-face gaming was up a bit, but MAGIC was down in the quarter.

You can train cards or something. Not sure, but you can upgrade them.

Why would I not just play Hearthstone? Its a digital and watered version of MtG just like Legends professes to be... Except Blizzard have been making games far longer than Bethesda and it's third party developers. Look that the flop that was ESO.
Magic is still far more complex and diverse than Legends has the potential to be.

Shovelware appreciation thread?
Your BBEG is now Wu Tang Clan
Can your players overcome their shaolin mastery and skills?
>>46829129
No idea who they are, but I'm really tempted to make some kind of /pol/ level joke upon seeing your pic, OP.
You know what they say, Wu Tang Clan is not a group you want to annoy or pester.
I win by choosing not to annoy or pester them, preventing a conflict entirely.
>>46829129
>atomic bombs that are so indescribable that philosophy and rationality cannot describe them.
No. Their skills are too great.
How do you name your characters /tg/?
>>46828971
I always use my real name for PCs because fuck you.
For random NPCs I have a baby book of names and I just flip through it.
I use misspelt names of obscure historical writers, artists, heroes and villains for plot relevant people. Sometimes it relates to their characters, sometimes it's an ironic name, and sometimes I just liked the sound.
>>46828971
>Go to UESP Elder Scrolls Wiki
>Look up race closest to the race I'm playing
>Scroll through the list of names from that race
>Tear pieces that sound cool and re-combine them into character name

I string together sounds.
How do I make steampunk work?
It's a decent enough idea.
Just glue some gears on it.

I don't think that's how it's supposed to work

Starting this since someone from the Modern General suggested it.
Let's be shitte and try to git gud, judge etc...
Any experienced players are more than welcome.
Just learnt to play 2 days ago, played half a dozen games with one of the store's deck against the owners and a old guy who says has been playing for 18 years only with the objective to learn (they were actually pretty nice to me, took a considerable amount of their time and had a lot of patience) though ofc they still won easily without trying, then they let me chose (oldguy helped me choose) a beginners deck (those with 30 cards in them of which 13 are lands) and sold me some cards from their common box to compliment it, told me to go and play whenever i want since there...

I've learned how to play a few months go, but I don't get to play often. I'd say I've only played about 2 dozen matches thus far. Haven't one a single one yet. One of the friends who got into it the same time as me is already a master at it, he was big into other card games in his youth, and he's also an asshole when it comes to playing them. For weeks now I've been trying to counter his black zombie deck with a splash of white for healing. I think I got the right idea with my white green deck but it's still missing something. Any ideas?
>>46828696
I'm no expert, and I'm out of date with a lot of my knowledge, but I've been playing for over a decade now. I'll give some general advice.
First, land. 22 is a good number for a beginner I thing. I run 20-22, but generally play casually. Most people (and statistics) recommend 23-26 for the average deck, but those include fetches, utility, etc.
In general, cards that cost too much aren't worth it. If it costs seven or more mana and doesn't immediately win the game, or you're...

You've been sent by your King to recover a long lost Relic. You must enter the Trolls cave and search his three treasure piles to find the Relic. Choose a Dwarf and Move!
How far apart can the Troll's feet move?
come on this has absolutely nothing that isn't ambiguous
how do the feet move? must they alternate? does lancing a foot to the ground actually stop it from moving? how does poison work? how far do the spiders move? do you have to stand on the differentiated tile to search treasure, or be adjacent to it, or stand on any tile of the mound? how does the club work? how much health do the spiders have? what about the feet, how much health do they have? having damage on the dwarves implies we can kill them. do we deploy three dwarves a turn, or must dwarves die before more are deployed?

LANCER TROOPER ALPHA REPORTING IN.
Orange Please.
Play the best class in the world, or I'll eat your soul!

So we played the first class that came to our mind, just so happened to be, the best class in the world, the best class in the world.
Well, what game are we playing first?

I think you should pay for your campains instead of illegally downloading them off the internet

I have a player who believes thinks that a Bard and/or Cleric can't be in a low to no magic campaign. He has a habit if being a rule Nazi. He also gets on /tg/ all the time so maybe he'll listen to you guys
>>46826797
What system?
>>46826797
Literally the definition of up to the GM. But if I was running the campaign I would agree with the guy unless you had a homebrew low magic version of those classes.
>>46826797
Kick the guy, get somebody new instead.
Players are dime a dozen, DM is in the right to cull the chucklefucks as necessary.
Found this at a local thrift store for $20. What's inside, and was it a good deal?
Well, all we can say is that a good camera is something you haven't found yet.

I know. I blame apple, but the phone was free.
Here is the first of it. I have no idea where any of these are from.
Should the Athletics skill use Strength or Agility as its linked statistic?
Why?
"Athletics" is way too broad of a skill. It should be broken down into smaller skills.

> penalizing the skillpoint starved classes even further

The higher of the two when going for cinematic heroism.
The lower of the two when going for gritty realism.
Why the hell do so many Pathfinder published adventures give exposition only to the GM, with no way for the players to ever find out?
For instance, in Crown of the Kobold King, there is this little piece of info: "The refuse on the eastern shelf conceals two potions of owl’s wisdom, stashed here by a kobold thief after a successful raid and then forgotten when the thief was cap- tured by the forge spurned in area 19."
Ok. Now I, the GM, know that this happened. How in the hell will any of the players ever know?
This wouldn't be such a big...

maybe you should use your imagination to give them this information
>>46826049
Sure, but it gets tricky for some of the information, when there are very few methods for the PCs to come across it.
It's just an extra annoying thing for me to worry about as GM and would ultimately require a lot of work just because the writers of the modules got lazy.
>>46826049
Actually, now that I think about it, coming up with the ways that I could give the PCs the information would have to be done in advance, and hence would increase prep-time.
Like if I had them enter that potion room without foreshadowing the missing potions in advance, and then had to somehow come up with a way to give the information to them on the fly, well I don't think there really is one.
It could work if I foreshadowed that during a previous kobold raid, two potions of owls wisdom went missing,...

i am thinking about getting into dungeons and dragons how should i start?
>>46825721
I recommend looking into the most popular kinds of Dungeons and Dragons around right now. They are:
>Pathfinder: For people who like mechanics-heavy games.
>D&D 5E: For those seeking a good, versatile system.
>Dungeon World: For those focusing on narrative and story.
1. Get some friends.
2. Buy the 5e Starter set. It has everything you need to start, but you might also want to buy some extra dice.
3. Play it.
4. If you like it, buy/download the 3 core books, and continue on from there.
This is also useful for new players.

this, basically. If you're the person who's most excited about getting a group together, you'll probably end up DM'ing. If so, google "tips for running lost mines of phandelver," and you'll find lots of helpful message boards and such
Your party just finished putting down a vicious band of roving orcs when this guy slaps your Good aligned party member(s) on their ass(es)!
What do they do?
>>46825625
Have my augurs examine it for the signs of strength, fitness of limb, and intellect- and if the portents are good give it to one of the camp followers to raise until it can fight.
Otherwise- it is unfit to serve alongside true freemen regardless of it's origins- and we throw it off a cliff like the rest of the shit-tier babies.
