I would say that D&D (any edition) is on the extreme end of the power ramp up scale. IME most other game systems do not default to PCs gaining so much power (relative to their expected challenges) so quickly.

Other than that, the only system I've had that doesn't suffer from a power creep of epic proportions would be GURPS. There are def others, I just probably haven't played them. You get like 4-6 points a session and gaining skills and abilities requires in character work that justifies it.

This is more of a problem in D&D than in any other system. Most systems don't even use levels; levels are ubiquitous in video games, but pretty much obsolete for tabletop.

I'm running a D&D 5e game right now, and I've been having a lot of fun with it. It's definitely my favorite version of D&D. But I'm running into the same problem you are; the power ramp is too damn steep. I've got level 12 PCs; pretty much everything in the monster manual is either "trivial and tedious" or "lethal." It's not as bad as it was in 3.5, but I'm definitely switching the group to something non-D&D after this campaign.

I open a box every set that looks fun to me.
Beyond that, I usually don't rip packs unless I win them at tournaments.

Favorite packs to open are anything from the Time Spiral block or Lorwyn block. I just love those blocks so much.

I did many many years ago when Mythics weren't a thing and the gap between commons and rares wasn't as blatant. I still do sometimes, usually when a warehouse decides to get rid of their Fallen Empires room. FE was great because anyone nostalgic for old stuff would have easy access to those boosters for decades. I will teach my kids to play off of the crate of FE I have in my basement waiting for someone to give a shit.

I just recently started collecting Magic cards, in that time I have bought: a few starter decks, 2 Fat Packs, Origins deck builders toolkit, a BfZ Gift box, some single cards which I liked the look of, 2 Booster Boxes (Oath of the Gatewatch and SoI), and a bunch of boosters from Origins and up.

Well depending on the strategy used, they could be any thing. A pincer move may have their unit's callsign as "Hammer" and anvil, or if it's an ambush it could be "lurker", "overwatch", etc. If it's for like a straight charge, the names could be something like "Lancer", or for fire support the names could be "Longbow", or "Heavy Rain".

Wouldn't you use callsigns for individual armored companies, not the whole regiment?

Still, pettiness aside, try "the Emperor's Fist" or "Drumluggers." The latter referring to the metal of an oil drum and how the barrels of the tanks are going to tear apart the enemy.

My guess is more like the fallout from the Crystal Evo Game's species wars drove out the promising newbloods. Some still want to evo, but after some time they got tired.
