/tg/, how can I convince my GM his world is unrealistic and it affects the verisimilitude of the storygame experience?
My character uses a katana. I was very specific in this on my character sheet, for cultural reasons.
My GM said because there aren't rules for katanas in 5e D&D I have to count it as a masterwork bastard sword, an unrefined, inelegant gaijin weapon.
He won't accept that this is highly disrespectful to the swordcrafting culture of Japan, dishonouring the name and work of legendary smiths like Hattori Hanzo, Masamune Shirow...

What is your katana's bonus against canines?
Also, how dare you to forget such legendary smiths as Tetsuya Nomura and Hideo Kojima?

Don't forget Danielle Suzuki.

Rolled vs Fixed hit points on monster ect, what do you /tg/ prefer ?
Rolled is mostly pointless, just like rolled stats always are. The one way I could see value in it is having your players uncertain how much it'll take to kill a monster, but if your whole group is obsessing over enemy HP you likely have other issues way beyond that.
>>46813498
Rolled. Stops players from getting too complacent and does a little bit to prevent metagaming.
Rolled on bosses, fixed on mooks.
If I have to pick one for everything forever, fixed.

>>46813146
I really wish this was a thing. Who are the guests?
And we're not talking 'oh, you had to kill someone to finish the quest, no more lawful good.'
One of my players ended up in debt to a vampire. She was unable to feed and called in the debt, asking for five people to feed on. She wanted two of them to be virgins.
The player, rather than arguing, went off to the nearest village and dominated person on five children from ages 8 to 18. All of them were good aligned (rolled randomly). She then brought all of them to vampire.
She's a Neutral Good Gnome Illusionist who follows a Lawful Good...

If alignment really is that important to you, the character should probably shift down to LN at least. Any other kinds of punishment depend on the situation, and you know more than any of us in that regard.
>>46813067
The nobility argument is useable, but not for any of the 'good' alligned characters.
Realistic consequences and she should think about her characters' actual allignments.
-
Lawful neutral and evil allignments are top tier ones for the human masterrace. Fuck everyone else.
Played a good character who ended up basically enslaved to an evil character, and had to do evil stuff to stay alive.
Not sure how that would work alignment.
Low magic settings, pros and cons, any tips for running one as a GM?
Define low magic.
If you mean it in terms of very few magic items and few magical enemies, then they can work great. Just be aware that the players will expect to be able to do everything in the PHB and more, and the odds are they will all want to paly as charaters with access to magic. The main thing you will need to emphasise to them is that there will be little or no magic coming in from outside the group. mo friendly wizards guilds who can teach you spells for a standard price, no temples stocked up with clerics who will que up to heal your wounds, and not to expect...

1. Prep time takes time, time that could be better spent working or studying.
2. While people are free to bring their own materials such as dice or sourcebooks, the group/game organizer must have enough supplies for anyone who does not have their own.
3. Game supplies such as miniatures are not free.
4. Things that are stolen must be replaced.
Copied from a handout I saw posted on a billboard at college, advertising $30 per year for membership. This is crazy, right? Like i'm not in some nonsense dimension?
>>46812322
Honestly, the pay wall will probably do alot to filter out children and aspies. If that money is then used to buy aforementioned books minis and stuff for a public setting it could entirely be worth it.
>>46812322
$30 / year sounds like a pretty good deal if it's netting me guaranteed access to a GM, a group, game supplies, materials, and a network of like-minded individuals.
That's basically pennies a session. If you didn't own the PHB, you'd need almost the entire year's worth of sessions just to justify purchasing that one book.
I'm a forever DM in a small town, though, so what do I know.
That just sounds like a GM who's had some very bad experiences.
>Playing DBZ game
>game is set before the destruction of planet Vegeta.
>all saiyan party.
>one of them learned spirit bomb
Would using spirit bomb, then absorbing the energy, on planet Vegeta elevate a saiyan into godhood? The guy who used it is arguing that it should since it only took a pure saiyan, 3 half saiyans and a fucking fetus half saiyan channeling their energy into a pure saiyan for that saiyan to achieve apotheosis.
>>46812014
You couldn't absorb it in the first place. No one has shown the ability to use its power that way, have they?
>>46812122
In the movies at least. Goku absorbs the power from a spirit bomb to fight super Android 13.
How did they learn spirit bomb? Why would they know they can absorb it if the main characters didn't figure that out until decades into the plot? Meta knowledge isn't cool.
The Imperial Army often uses orcs, goblins, trolls and slave barbarians as skirmishers, using them to charge and ravage the enemy ahead of the troops.
k
>>46811708
That sounds pretty reasonable. Puts them to good use and reduces losses to your own citizens, while at the same time giving the barbarians an outlet for their natural violent urges so they cause less trouble at home.
All proper empires know the value of auxiliary
>Add friend's friend to game
>1st session of new game, does fine
>Talk to players about how good new guy is, fits well in.
>2nd session. Still fine, newness shines, but nothing awful.
>3rd session. Different game.
>ACTIVELY goes against the party
>does shit that should get him killed
>Typical "I do what I want" lone wolf garbage
>Tells other player how to play character
>Complaints from other players
>time passes
>Give optional riddle to party for entire party's benefit
>new guy literally only one not to answer yet
>"I don't DO riddles"
>message new guy addressing complaints and lack of team work
>Claims that in two prior games he already knows what will happen that "party will make dumb choices and die"
>Point out that he in fact was making the dumb choices.
>Tell him "I think you're a bad fit for our group. I'm letting you go."
>He accepts
>Literally 10 minutes later
>"Fuc U! U suck as DM! Lone wolf Roolz! U were conspiring against me from the very beginning!"
>Blocks me
Main reason I didn't boot him sooner is I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt to offer him the chance to change and I didn't want to let my other player get into that uncomfortable kinda in between. Should've just done it when I first thought.
