What do you guys think would be a good setting for a skirmish warbands with a campaign system game a la Mordheim or Frostgrave?
I was thinking either Gladiators or warbands in a science fantasy setting, with lots of different factions and differentiation between soldiers and such.

DRAGONSLAYER!
One player controls heroes, the other player controls minions and monsters.
Assymetric, objective based game with gameplay ranging from "kill all the fucking goblins" to "Ohshitno a dragon!"

Tell me, why did your character choose the life of a murderhobo, /tg/? It's not a very good life. Death awaits at every turn, you're constantly watching your back, you spend your time surrounded by psychopaths who are ostensibly your allies and even worse psychopaths who are your enemies, and that's not even getting into the monsters. Then there are the dungeons, the lava temples, all these horrific, trap-filled places where you go.
And you KEEP going. Sure, there's treasure. Sure, there's evil to be slain. But at some point, surely you can just.....

It's the natural default group of adventurer PCs that don't start with allegiance to an authority figure.
One way to avoid it is to have the players make their characters together, and at the outset of the game, they are on a specific quest. Also since 5th edition has "backgrounds", they help a little in putting the PC in society context.

You can't cash out. Over the ~15k gp level, everything is done in favors, titles, and heirlooms. A wand of CLW? Yeah, sell it to a magic shop in the big city. Serious magic? You're doing anyone weak enough to pay cash for it a disfavor, because someone with real power will come along and confiscate it.
And, at this level, you probably already invested in a nice fortified manor with vineyards in the quiet lands outside a rich coastal city. You're a political-level power, like it or not. A bipedal dragon. Unless you want to move to a mountain-top, walking...

Sup /tg/, I'm currently DMing a game of pathfinder that is mostly based around monsterslaying. All encounters are sort of boss fights with very hard monsters for the party to face the rest of their time is spent exploring intricacies of the world and roleplaying. Pathfinder has worked alright and it's easy to drum up players for but it's not perfect.
I want to try and transition to a better system later on in the campaign or maybe for a new similar campaign. What system would you guys recommend for really punishing combat with sort of low fantasy characters...

Yes, after I finished college and moved back, several of my friends asked me to run a game for them. They then proved they're incapable of understanding how to play a "ragtag group of cowboys and smugglers" game. I've never encountered a group of people who all want to play a Firefly game then do nothing you'd associate with a Firefly game.
Then they all got obsessed with trans issues and BDSM culture, so I dropped the group.

It is about them, not the group they are in. To this end, everyone in this group has a player character, and if they get along with the group, they are encouraged to become a Storyteller for the next person who rolls along.

Yes. Annihilator would almost certainly be ruled as a card effect in yu-gi-oh, so he'd be immune to that. Magnus would probably be at leasy RUG, but even Emrakul isn't immune to creature effects, just spells, and none of the others have protection vs. targeted shuffle effects.
Purely from a stats perspective, going by percentages, 400 ATK in yugioh (1/20 of starting LP) can be thought equivalent to 1 power/toughness in magic. On such a scale, Magnus would be a 9/8, which is smaller than all the Eldrazi...
