I originally believed it to be a grog holy grail but the individual turns are pretty straightforward, and most soviet counters run down to there being like 8 armies which all act as a unit most of the time, while on the german side much of the remaining counters is worthless VS, improvised troops or police which have very little practical use beyond roadblocks.

Entirely depends on the quality and power of magic, and what magical beings exist.
The Tuatha de Danin against the Formoria would make any war among humans look like children playing with wooden swords. Sorcerers in the concept of Persian myths altered entire realities with their magic. And the Chinese ideals of mystics involved in wars would boggle the minds of most Western readers.

So I love these little buggers, but these aren't even close to Kobolds anymore.
Kobolds are little spirits/sprites that haunt and tend to houses and ships and caves, when they're in a good mood, and play tricks on people they deem rude or unfavorable.
So, if you had to give a name to, for my purposes,

Dragonling. Proper nouns are bad for a generic system. A given setting can call them whatever they want, but the system document should be relatively generic.
How do you ask 'That Guy' to leave the group without making it super awkward? This is the first time we've ever had to actually ask someone to leave and no one is really sure how to go about it. It's doubly awkward because while our regular GM is prepping his next game That Guy has decided he wants to run Curse of Strahd, but we had our first session yesterday and 90% of it was spent on him being frustrated and rules lawyering because all of us are playing 5e and he keeps talking about rules from 4e.
P1: "Hey guy, before you sit down, there's something we'd like to tell you."
P2:"We're not really sure that your play style matches the tone of the game, or the way we play as a group, for that matter.

Could one get away with a largely contemporary fantasy setting, but it doesn't have most of the races associated with contemporary fantasy (i.e. Dwarves, Hobbits, Orcs, etc)? My intent is to base a lot the racial origins and creation-stories of said races on actual mythologies, more than the current D&D/Tolkein trends, but in the intent of making something old feel new again. Not that it would be void of modern convention, but to cut to the chase:
Do you think an RPG can get away with not including the races and setting-conventions most expect form modern RPGs...

A large part of my intent is to take a lot of the old Norse and Germanic fables that jump started middle-earth, but stick to them instead of altering them to be what Tolkien defines them as. i.e. You'd have (yet unnamed) Mountain-Elves, shorter and uglier (by elf standards) who work with metalwork, divination, and necromancy, v.s. just sticking Dwarves in there.

start off as beholden to the rules as possible, with only the most agregious offenders cut out, and then develop the version of DnD you wanna play with the group during play. Generally, only unanimous decisions should be pushed through.
Once you're more experienced though, it's all fair game
