Any thoughts on 7th Sea? A friend has the preview of the new version and is running a one shot tomorrow. I need the skinny on the game's setting and an idea of what to play.
Also, there's a trigger warning on the first type of magic.
>Before you read any more, you should be warned. Many would consider much of what a hexe must do to be desecration of the dead, disrespectful and foul. We say the following not as a challenge, but as a heartfelt warning: Hexenwerk is disgusting. If you feel like Hexenwerk may upset you, you’re probably right and you should not read any further.
That last bit is in italics.
I kinda wanna play a gross corpse eating necromancer. One of the spells is literally eating brains. It really is pretty disgusting. I'm glad there aren't any pictures, considering how gorgeous the art looks
I'm not a fan of the second edition, I don't think it carried over much of what I liked from the first one at all in either setting or rules (Especially rules, though the entire setting has changed as well)
I was following the development pretty closely for a while but dealing with Wick just wore me out and I gave up any hope for it.
>>47519400
As someone who's barely cracked open the book and knows nothing about either edition, you'll have to elaborate. All I've done so far is skim through the sorcery, which seems very "the thing you want happens".
>>47519348
The original one was overhyped to hell and then when I actually got around to reading it almost all of it was utter garbage except for like one of the kingdom books.
I haven't read the new one, although i've heard they've added some retarded rules about how the heroes aren't allowed to kill people without becoming NPC villains themselves, but I wouldn't expect much from it based on 1E sucking balls and John Wick being in charge.

First for Ogreball.

My only regret was not using that jump up better.
>>47467649
Thats what we're here to see. High quality ogre gameplay.
I am the new Substitute Shinigami, Kanemoto Hisako, but my true identity is that of the East's greatest swordsman, Sasaki Kojiro. I have regained those sealed memories and powers when I was ran through by an unknown Shinigami's Zanpakuto, leading to my dramatic rebirth in death.
I rescued another mysterious Substitute Shinigami who goes by the codename 'Clarissa'. Because the real Shinigami hate Substitutes and are out to kill them, she tried to get me to give up my ambitions to pursue justice, but my resolve won out in the fierce battle that ensued.
After that fateful encounter, the Golden Witch bestowed upon me three treasures.
One is the ability to rule over death. (A Soul Candy pill named Chappy. It knocks my own soul out of my body and replaces it with Chappy; it allows me to transform without compromising myself. The rule for using this treasure is "only if someone is about to die.")
Two is the magical formula by which I can summon the Golden Witch to do my bidding. (She gave me her phone number. The rule for using this treasure is "don't call me when I'm at work.")
Three is all the lore in the Golden Land. (She told me what's really going on in the world. The rule for using this treasure is "don't tell anyone else.")
I should elaborate on the third treasure.
As I have always suspected, the world isn't as simple as it seems. Spirits wander the earth after their death, imperceptible to the eyes of most people... but not for mine! Anyway, the spirits can basically be split up into three categories: Shinigami, Hollows, and Pluses (regular ghosts). Hollows are the monstrous Bad Spirits that endanger the unlives and even the lives of everyone around them. Shinigami are like their opposites - they're the brave dark swordsmen that cleanse the world of their taint and also send Pluses off to heaven.
>>47557554
Every region has at least a single Shinigami overseeing the spiritual balance of things. Even though they should be my allies in this difficult line of heroic work, if I'm ever seen by one of those guys, they'll try to kill me. I suppose too many people have been using their Substitute Shinigami powers for evil... or something like that.
But either way, what all of this basically means...
...Is that I can't do anything.
A few days have passed after my encounter with the Ex-Substitute Shinigami, and nothing has changed about my life. I returned home and then went to school.
The rules she instated for me are also making things even more boring. I can't tell anyone about this? I can't transform when I want to? There aren't even any Bad Spirits around?
Gaaah, this is unbearable!
The only thing I even have to look forward to nowadays is the upcoming spirit-cleansing performance by Don Kanonji, the world's greatest exorcist.
Just as those frustrations swirled in my head, on one fateful schoolday, my lone trusted ally, Jun, has notified me of something suspicious during lunch.

>>47557585
"Sasaki-san, my ears caught wind of something suspicious. They say that Minato-san has been complaining about a feeling of being watched." Is what he said. I couldn't help but sense the amount of concern he has even for that slightly rude, unsocial girl with glasses. "What should we do?"
Jun has spent six years training deep in the mountains, so I have no reason to doubt his instincts, even if he's retelling a rumor that somebody else probably retold him. His drive for justice is just like mine, which must be why we get along so well. And also, I... kind of... well...
Oh! Now isn't the time! A classmate could be in danger!
...
>"Understood. I shall go ask her about it immediately!"
>"I see. Perhaps one of the Organizations is scouting her out for forced recruitment. After school today, the two of us will follow after her and make sure that no one else is stalking her!"
>"This must be the work of a Bad Spirit. I must oversee this matter personally!"
>"Petty stalkers are none of our concern. We must stay on the lookout for real threats! Instead... Jun... Do you want to see it?"
>Other. (Write-in).
>>47557615
>"I see. Perhaps one of the Organizations is scouting her out for forced recruitment. After school today, the two of us will follow after her and make sure that no one else is stalking her!"
A serious threat.
Why do people act like Lorgar was wrong when he was pretty much the only Primarch who was 100% right?
In 40k if you don't have the backing of a god you are shit, humanity needed it's own god if it wanted to survive.
Without the Imperial Faith humanity was doomed to fall to Chaos in the long run, the Emperor's plan to fix everything with atheism was going to fail and he really should've known that. Without the faith of quadrillions the Emperor would've never been strong enough to fight the Chaos Gods and in the long run the best hope for humanity would be a small minority escaping to the human webway, congrats you've repeated the mistakes of the Eldar.
Also notice how Lorgar was the only Primarch who came out of the Horus Heresy better off than before it started? And how he's pretty much the only Primarch who hasn't died, disappeared or been completely fucked over by Chaos? Wow it's almost like he's the only one who knows what he's doing.
Lorgar was right, but that doesn't mean he wasn't also a whiny little pissant. They two aren't mutually exclusive.
Sure, why not?

Everyone welcome.
FAQ:
Q - What is Towergirls?
A /tg/ creation. Read more here.
https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Tower_Girls
Q - How do I play?
A - It's a CYOA, there are no established mechanics for the rescue. All the pages to the game are in the imgur album linked in resources.
Q - Why aren't/are we we working on; Fan Gen II/Knights/combat mechanics/etc.
A - No. We recognize that spreading out our efforts is what originally killed the project. Accordingly, we're focusing on just one thing at a time and finishing them out.
Q - Hey, can we make a pricness about X fetish?
A - It generally comes down to what people like. Propose the idea and see if others want it.
Q - Is there a map/unified setting?
A - Nope. Though proposals have been made, nothing concrete has been created.
Q - Can I post fanart/fanfiction here?
A - Go right on ahead, just make sure it's within the global rules.

I can't tell you how fucking obnoxious it is to try and get into 40k these days. To figure out what your models do you need to buy the rules book, your army book, and a bunch of other supplementary material. It's a complete mess.

This will be the exactly same thread as the previous one in 3...2...1...
stepping away from the tournament focus literally every other "major" wargame has and instead putting out narrative scenario books was pretty admirable
that's about all I can think off off-hand, aside from Warhammer Quest being a thing again
So we're starting a Rogue Trader game in a few days and I've decided (and gm has approved) to play a Dark Eldar Wych on the RT'S otherwise all human crew.
Now, we've thought that my Wych will have some kind of life debt to the RT (something alone the lines of him saving her from being sacrificed/found her after she was exiled/escaped after she pissed of the wrong person).
But why wouldn't a Deldar just renege on that deal? Not like they're honorable and prone to keeping their word.
So far I'm leaning towards maybe she feels there is more to these humans than she thought (more open minded than the vast majority of her kin) or that she has some ulterior motive that coincides with the RT and his crew (I assume they will eventually bond for real if the campaign goes on long enough) but what could she be searching for? Revenge just seems so... overdone.
Any ideas or suggestions?
A Macguffin. Some kind of artifact with great value or potential power to the DE. Some sort of credible rumor as to its whereabouts, that makes her think the Rogue Trader is her best bet to get close to it. Doesn't have to be real, or where you think it is, but that's a motivation.
>>47554801
DEldar are selfish creatures, but they are also pragmatic. They won't actively seek to kill everyone just for the lulz as a chaos cultist would do.
So she's likely to renege on her deal, but given the right motivation she may stick with the party. That motivation may be simply to take part in adventures with a reasonable chance of success, moreover she may not want to return to her kin if she has pissed the wrong person.
Eldar are notoriously very racist so her bonding with a bunch of human is not very likely, however i'd say it is still possible as DEldar are paradoxically more open, mixing with other races more frequently than their righteous brethrens.
>>47554927
>Eldar are notoriously very racist so her bonding with a bunch of human is not very likely, however i'd say it is still possible as DEldar are paradoxically more open, mixing with other races more frequently than their righteous brethrens.
Just need to bond a bit with the RT himself really I suppose and tolerate the others. Me and the GM both are less concerned with staying rigidly true to the fluff and more about making sure the group isn't constantly dysfunctional and at each others throat. Some kind of mutual respect if not real friendship.

How would you run a campaign based on the RE Franchise? Specifically 5.
Puzzle design, mystery, and stating enemies are my holdups, so any help on those would be helpful
>specificaly 5
You be a racist piece of shit.
You have a white hero save all the black people with his not quite black black strong woman tag along.
Make sure to have literal spear chuckers.
>>47548672
Do you know which system you'll be using? Also, are you aiming for a survival horror experience, or more action shoot-em-up?
>>47548672
On the subjects of puzzles and mystery, I'd suggest paying attention to the way RE games handle these elements, they're pretty good at it.
If you look at how the RE games are designed, they all basically involve one simple set of rules: the characters start in one location, and must work their way through a series of obstacles to travel to another location. The key to this is that the characters are always moving. RE games don't typically rely on stereotypical DnD-style dungeon riddles, their puzzles usually involve trapping the characters in an area and requiring them to collect items or kill certain enemies to escape. Think of how the temple in RE5 utilized this formula for examples.
Now, for a roleplaying game, there needs to be more of an intellectual element for the players to stay interested, as running from one room to another happens much more quickly in the theater of the mind than it does in a video game. For an example of this, I'll include a puzzle I ran in a Dark Heresy campaign recently below:
What game/system would you recommend to introduce someone to roleplaying (no experience beyond computer games)? What places/methods would you recommend to find groups/people into the hobby?
>>47545374
D&D, current edition whatever that is.
Just because it's the lingua franca of gaming.
>>47545374
I kind of hate 5e D&D, but its simplicity and brand name (few outside the hobby are aware that games besiides D&D exisst) might make it a good choice for babby's first RPG.
GURPS.
Wait, wait, hear me out. Get the super-lite version of GURPS (it's free), and it'll be a good intro to the potential complexity of games and it's a not half-bad system to do so.
5e D&D is what I'd use if I were going to do a full game, though I don't really like doing it for long periods of time because I'm too lazy to plan.
If you want something less complex, Savage Worlds isn't exactly what I'd consider 5/5, but it's a good start and has a solid level of complexity without being mind-bogglingly difficult.
Open Legend is a little rough around the edges, but it's also a good one in terms of simplicity, while offering a degree of tactical grid-based play I've only seen in 4e without sacrificing out-of-combat character development and individuality.
If there's a local gaming shop, that's a great place to check, bonus points if it's not just a comic/card shop but an actual gaming shop with a focus on RPG/wargame stuff (though wargame-only shops probably exist, so I'm speaking from local experience).

4 Against the Darkness Solo RPG
No miniatures are needed. All you need is the book, a pencil, two six sided dice, and grid paper.
You choose four character types from the classic classes (warrior, wizard, rogue, halfling, dwarf, barbarian, cleric, elf), equip them, and start adventuring in dungeons created by dice rolls and by your choices. When you enter a room, you generate its content on a series of random tables. You will meet monsters, fight them, hopefully defeat them (or decide that discretion is the better part of valor!), you'll manage your resources (healing, spells, life points, equipment), grab treasure, dodge traps, find clues, and even accept quests from the monsters you meet. Your characters can level up and become better at what they do, but it will not be easy.
