>The name halfling does not mean half of a man's height, but refers to halfling's belief that their spirits are half animal
>Halfling clans wear clothes inspired by their specific spirit animal, live near them, and sometimes train them
Would this be a good take on halflings?
Wouldn't be a bad one.
>>47578414
>and sometimes train them
Instead you should maybe go for something like a spirit quest. Every single animal type has a king/god and the halflings are human-like versions of the animal. Like every species is a different version of the same creature and halflings are variations too. Their heavens are the same ones members of their species go to. So here you could have the halflings pray to the god on a specific day, each year, which brings them closer to the god. Or you could just have them spirit bond to the animal that they find a la Robin Hobb's books. Or you could have them be like Skyrim's dragon-born. Human-like creatures with animal souls.

Han Kalkor Draigo finally stopped using swords?
Did you ever had a succubus or half-succubus in your party? How did it go? Which role did she fill? Was she roleplayed realisticaly, or just as a random rogue with high charisma, or worst, as just a tefish outlet?
>>47572059
Closest I've done is using a half-succubus as a cambion, not the monster manual cambion but a poorly houseruled sorcerous origin. Used by a not-Merlin character in a not-Arthurian setting (a lot of original myths have Merlin as a cambion)
I'm in a post-apocalyptic fantasy game where we've acquired a pair of Succubi for our settlement.
As part of the apocalyptic events, Heaven and Hell seem to be just gone, so divine and infernal creatures suffered a serious power loss, as well as a lack of direction or central command. They're still dangerous, but they're predictable in their selfishness, so we've been making use of them as an asset.

Midichlorians aren't canon
I just got Dungeon World today, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and Gygaxian inside, coating my soul in a soothing blend of old-school-feel and modern, accessible mechanics.
Tell me about your experiences with Dungeon World! What pitfalls should I avoid in GMing? Do you have a preferred setting to apply to DW, whether it be homebrew or adapted from another game? How best to handle things like a dragon taking a turn to breathe fire or an enemy to cast a spell? (I guess I'm just a little fuzzy on when special monster moves which don't result from PC-initiated hack-and-slash should occur, as a possibly penalty of a failed roll or as an action lent from another monster which skips its turn? Holy shit this question got complex question mark?)
Also, I'm high as shit, so if you have any short, funny stories about impaired gaming I would love to hear them.
>>47568347
I got super drunk when me and my friends played maids.
Played a trap character and was laugning my ass off.everyone was taking the game seriously.
>>47568347
I've had quite a few sessions now with different players and enjoyed it thoroughly. In my analogy, DW is closer to improv theater with dice than a videogame with pen and paper.
> a dragon taking a turn
Do you mean this literally? Because there are no turns in DW.
>special moves
If I have time to prepare special moves or it seems intuitive to make them up on the spot, I'll have them. But mostly this all falls into defy danger. If it seems like something needs to be rolled for but it's not entirely obvious what, defy danger is probably the answer.
>this question got complex
Yeah, hope I answered it but I can't really tell.
>preferred setting
I mostly start making a setting with just the player-races. No need having an elf-themed setting when nobody is an elf. (If I want all characters do to be in a society of whimsical creatures, I like to think I can do better than pointy ear humans).
I'm also getting together with a game group and I want to play a present-day fantasy game. All regular character sheets, swords and magic, but with skyscrapers and smartphones.
>>47568407
>They were secretly gay for you and afraid to show it
My friends and I once got drunk and stoned and roleplayed a game of Shadows Over Camelot. It's a cooperative board game about the Knights of the Round Table trying to stop the fall of Camelot to dark powers. Unfortunately, one of you might be a secret traitor. Suspicion festers in the air.
We ended up treating it more like a medieval version of "Blazing Saddles" than "The Usual Suspects" and it was fantastic. Works best with just four players.
My name is Cecile, and I'm sixteen years old. I already thought my life was odd, what with my parents having moved halfway across the country for their new job and leaving me in the care of my older sister... but then my best friend went and had a book shipped to my house that ended up giving me superpowers.
Thanks to said superpowers, I've been dragged into all sorts of horrible situations, the latest of which involved a masked thief who wanted revenge against me for killing a friend of his.
But now that asshole is dead (and it wasn't my fault for once) and I'm finally able to go back home and relax like a somewhat normal person again... albeit one who can shoot lasers and has a girlfriend who can talk to animals.

I lose track of time while Charlotte's tickling attack continues. The only thing that I can think about is how much this sucks and the only thing I can hear is my increasingly painful laughter and the only thing I can see through my glasses that are now smudged with tears is Charlotte's evil smile as she keeps on without any mercy.
But suddenly, her fingers stop and I'm once again able to breathe normally.
"Ummm..."
Out of the range of my glasses, I can make out a tall, blurry figure with green hair. Irene.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt anything," she says, laughing nervously.
"No, we were just about finishing up," Charlotte sighs.
While Charlotte returns to her previously-seated position, I still remain lying on the couch until I finally catch my breath. Upon which time I realize that my clothes are completely disheveled and my bra is in full view and God damn it Irene probably mistook my tickle hell as some sort of weird sex thing.

Welcome one, and I welcome you all to the tale of a world called Thespia.
Here is the odyssey of one that clings to this world with no face of their own! In a place where magic is fundamental to all of creation, from the ancient origins of Leviathan seas and behemoth lands, zephyr winds, and phoenix fires. All things in this world has a life and voice. Yet they are only heard by those that listen.
The Faceless, a being of eldritch origins, arose from the bottom of a well. Many a folk tale in Thespia says that only two things reside at the bottoms of wells, "Evil and wishes."
Since returning to the surface land wearing the face of another, The Faceless has encountered many friends and foes in their journeys as they switch faces and live the lives of others.
The question that persists? Which face is his own? And where will his adventures lead as he twists the fate of this cursed world.
Traveling now as the Eternal Dancer, Belinda the Beautiful, the Faceless's party makes its way to Celes Prance, a Namour city built upon a lake.

Cleptesse's sky remains a bit overcast after the prior night's storm. The smell of fish and a subtle hint of death lingers upon the fog that rolls in through the town through the morning, likely from the Kraken's silent visit to the city. The streets are lively as they were when you arrived late yesterday. Markets overflowing with slimy Drezhar traders and the buyers warring with them to haggle a price both parties deem a “steal.”
In some back alleys that you'd stolen away to, you revealed your secret to the knowledge-loving Victoria. The girl's eyes remain locked upon you as you walk through Cleptesse, her feathery antennae seeming to buzz with all the thoughts she must be having. You can only wonder to yourself if getting to meet a real-life impostor should really be such a big deal. Then again, she's not quite the ethical type.
Odette's eyes linger upon the girl for a time until finally she takes your hand and pulls a bit ahead to whisper into your ear, “Are you sure you should trust her? All she'd need to do is shout impostor and we're both on the chopping block.” Her voice is stern, yet measured.
“She's have found out sooner or later if I changed faces.” You whisper back, slipping a hand low around her back, finding your fingers giving an unconscious squeeze. You and Odette both blush as you realize that Belinda's playing at a bit of mischief again... The Makoh woman however gives your hand a gentle swat as she distances herself. Though you can tell as she turns away that she's smiling a little.
>>47580549
Odette clears her throat, “Speaking of that... Becoming the Reaper here...” Odette's eyes stare down the street and lingers upon intersections and alleys. There's not many people on this particular street yet.
“I haven't given it too much thought yet.” You admit with a little shrug. “No reason to as of yet and...” You think towards the Makoh face... When you looked upon it, the eyes stared back. The threads on the inside were writhing, strong and menacing... “Putting the other on here could be disasterous.”
You suddenly feel something bump into you, and then trying to rush past. Without thinking, your hand snaps out like an eagle's talon snatching up prey. Your fingers lock around the collar of a filthy little boy struggling against your grip, your purse in his grubby fingers- a pickpocket.
The Drezhar child looks back at you, fear filling his yellow reptilian eyes. “Let me go ye pissy hag!”
A wretched smile warps upon your face at the kid's horrible comment, a vein visibly throbs in your hand.
>[Reprimand the child and turn him in to the guards.]
>[Ask the child what would drive him to steal from such a beautiful woman.]

Someone recommended Honor Harrington to me. I couldn't stand the masturbation over the military, how perfect the space British Empire is, and how perfect the main character is. Is there anything a bit better than it?
>>47568425
It's not exactly a war story, but I'd recommend Vatta's War, starting with Trading in Danger. There is a major war situation involved, but I'd classify more as a political thriller.
The Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell is a cool space opera inspired by Xenophon's ten thousand.
Dread Empire's Fall is a great hard sci-fi space opera about an oppressive space empire that has subjugated and assimilated multiple races (including humanity) into an inversion of the Star Trek federation and the turmoil surrounding its end. All the ships are named funny things like "The bombing of New Dehli" or "Nuking of San Francisco"
>>47568425
might be a little different that what your looking for but the Lost Fleet is pretty good

Volo's Guides were literally some of the BEST 2nd Ed products, so that's not surprising they're using the title.
Seems like this is basically MM2+Monsters of Faerun, though Faerun seems to be the default in the regular MM what with Helmed Horrors chilling out there.

You've got a pretty good smattering of units for the cost. Unfortunately they are all the higher end expensive ones and you really don't want to fall below 10 orders starting.
If you are willing to proxy someone as a Jaguar, You could try something like this:
10
KUSANAGI Lieutenant Spitfire / Pistol, Shock CCW. (2 | 43)
LIZARD MULTI HMG, Heavy Flamethrower / . (2 | 87)
LIZARD PILOT Pistol, Knife. (0)
GECKO 2 Combi Rifles, Chain-colt, Panzerfaust / . (0 | 53)
GECKO PILOT Assault Pistol, Knife. (0)
SPEKTR (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 32)
DAKTARI Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 14)
ALGUACIL (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12)
ALGUACIL (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12)
ALGUACIL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10)
GRENZER (Forward Observer, Sensor) Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Pistol, Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27)
JAGUAR Chain Rifle, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 10)
4 SWC | 300 Points
Gets you in the game with a bit more stompy than Nomads are known for, but it should give you even odds against equally skilled players.
Adding on, I'd swing for those sweet 10-25 point range models that tend to be workhorses in Nomads.
These include Zeroes, Jaguars, Zond Remotes, Interventors, Tomcats, and Moran.
