In a modern membership gym facility, it's somewhat more mature than say a college gym or high school gym for certain. Most people these days get shut down for making fun of overweight people working out, its contradictory, and is comparable to beating up a pilot for steering their plane. So i think you'll be fine, and maybe even meet a workout partner.
