Is it possible for traditional artists to make money these days from commissions?
Have the art world gone full digital?

Doesn't matter as long as it is visually appealing.
>>
Some.
Digital is obviously a little more convenient for commissions, but I still see lots of artists sell / do giveaways for the original piece of something done traditionally and distributed digitally.

If you want to make money traditionally, find pet owners and draw portraits of their pets. They love that shit.

What's the best way to learn human anatomy?
Is it best to just draw people without studying anatomy and then to start fleshing out your paper thin knowledge with the muscular system, etc?

It feels counterproductive to just copy muscles onto paper without any idea of how the planes work, etc.

What's a good place to learn human anatomy?

I don't really feel that just copying pose maniacs teaches much. I think each time you draw a human you should spend a couple of hours on it that way you learn every little thing you can.

I believe hundreds of references/life drawings are the best possible ways to do this.
>>
>>2378772
same. trying to learn better muscle and joint anatomy but a lot of references seem to contradict each other

i wish i had some sort of 3d model with muscles i could just angle and pose to learn from
>>
>>2378762
>>2378772

Well I mean there are tons of anatomy books out there.
Artistic Anatomy, Hampton and Bridgman are the ones I suggest you to look at, then continue doing your posemaniac exercises.

I'm quite new to the ic-board but haven't seen any pixel art.
I mostly draw normal stuff but am currently working on a game with a friend and I wanted to try out pixel art.
The pic is the room I am currently working on in the game and any critique is welcome.
Post your pixel art, if you have any below, would be awesome to see what level others are on.

There really aren't a whole lot of pixel-artists on ic. I'm not entirely sure why, it may just be a bit of a "specialized" medium. But I'm glad to see people posting their pixel art any time either way.

What are you going for with your image and is there anything in particular you feel could be improved on, but don't know how, etc?

I like pixel art. Currently trying to get into spriting but man, animation is tough.
>>
You REALLY should work on fundamentals (perspective/composition/color theory) before delving into a specialization like pixel art, especially one with so many limitations

Go to pixelation/pixeljoint once you've become decent enough to get meaningful critiques (you can look at all the 0 to 2 replies threads for an idea of when you're still not good at fundamentals to post)

What did he mean by this? Was he secretly cheating on his wife with one of his models?

Are you legitimately retarded?
It's possible the model wanted to be kept anonymous, especially if she happened to be drawn naked which could've been scandalous (even for art) at the time?

No she's actually the wife of G man from half life

Has anyone had any experience with installation art?
How to find spaces?
Do artists usually work with a team?

I dont enjoy drawings/paintings that much because you can only spectate, you cant touch or interact with the artwork.
Thanks!

Installation is so 70s. Installation and performance are the mediums of the current academic institution aka boring and 30 years behind. Gives old people a hard on, seems pretty pointless for the younger generation.
>>
>>2373662

Ask local galleries and coffee shops. Don't stop asking. Have a show in a garage or throw down some rugs and rent a tent in a parking lot if you have to. Make yourself.

Big installations that require a team is something you do when your an established artist. You need gallery connections to pull it off most times. Most installation artists have started out painting or sculpting then progressed into installation work. Of course you could argue the definition of "installation". You could say that any artwork that take the room in consideration is an installation piece. Yves Kleins (I think??) empty gallery was an installation because the room *didnt* have any artwork in it. I've made some installation work but they've been in connection to different exhibitions (I'm talking school exhibitions and open atelier stuff here). I do mock-ups before hand on the computer. That's a hot tip for you OP if you want to start out on installation - do them in a 3d program before you purchase expensive material!
Pic related is one of those mock-ups.

How do you go about figure drawing when you're an absolute beginner? Should I start by learning how to draw hands and face separately or should I tackle it completely?

You did quite well there m8

lmao it's just a random image off of google, not mine unfortunately
>>
A good way is to do full figures studies, then try to apply what you learnt by drawing figures from imagination, then study up on the individual body parts you had the most trouble with and repeat.

how do i shade like the pros guys

Can we talk about how to pull a Noah Bradley, and make money with art despite being an objectively shit artist?

How to gain a following, build social media presence, have people pay 500$ for signed MtG playmats with my art on it, and other outlandish shit that comes with the territory.

Hard mode: Don't feel like whoring out my dignity and self respect by doing juvenile homosexual cringeworthy shit like Ross Tran or Kienan Laferty (or whatever, I'm not looking him up). They are cool guys and deserve every follower they got, but in my case I cannot make myself do that youtube-personality bs that kids seem to like nowadays.

Still better than 100% of /ic/

Why get mad about it? Just get good and sell work based or merit not popularity

I can literally name a dozen /ic/ artists who are 100 times better than Bradley (but less financially successful)

How does Stock Image Photos affects us? I keep having undecided subconscious (I think) images of some sort of template of how certain things should be... which disturbs me. And those images def has strong visual connotations to Stock Image Photos seen in advertisment and online. Thoughts?

I made a thread on /r9k/ about this and I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of this. It's some free mason illuminati shit that conditions you to what a 'perfect' life should look like. Stock images is a weapon for the mind invented for this sole purpose.

I was dubious at first but repeating numbers checks out.

Completely! I'm just wondering how subconsciously we accumulate it to the point where it becomes a (undecided, undeliberate) choice of visual archive?
Like, "generation stock image manipulators". 90s and forward...

Guess each generation has its visual template to deal with wheter you are aware of it or not.

so i just came across a revelation:

if you're using a digital platform; your workflow should be as follows:

sketching should not be done with a tablet... you should use beziar curves, shapes, and lines to create the initial sketch and then afterwards you can go over it with a tablet to create more interesting contours.

Does anyone suffer arm pains when drawing for long periods of a time? I've always had issues with my acromion area using "clicking" when I move my arm. If I strict it enough it stops clicking. However, ever since I started drawing, my right arm has always felt very sore, even after doing stretches.

Is this common or should I look more into this?

your entire body will start breaking down over the years.

knees are fucked from sitting all day
eyes are fucked from starin at pc screen all day
neck is fucked from sitting all day
ab muscles inexistant from sitting all day (cuases inner organs to sink downward slightly, progressively taxing the heart and some other shit)
no abs also means weakened back support
back pain
shoulder stick out forward because you have your arms forward all day
neck tension from having to overstabilize a head as a result of bad posture will eventually cause TMJ issues
TMJ will fuck you up slowly in a million other ways

and don't even get me started on the neurological and psychological effects

it's over anon. you've got maybe a couple of years left.
>>
>>2378280
I mean, it just feels "sore". Like after a long workout, that kind of sore. But instead, I was drawing all day. I've never felt any "pain" for it, just soreness.
