Anyone have a good source for cheap sketchbooks? I can get 100 page unruled, spiral bound sketchbooks locally for $3.50 USD which is around the same price as the cheapest I could find on eBay (with free shipping.)

Got any cheaper sources? I'm slightly autismo and I'm tempted to buy out the local supply so I'll only ever use the same brand but if I can get a great deal then I'll stock up

1 MB,
Alright, maybe someone can shed some light on this shit for me. Recently wandered out of the arts section and ended up by a bunch of texts on nuclear physics, organic chemistry and Munsells colour reference guide, The Big Book Of Colour.

I've recently started using the Munsell system for referring to colours, and mixing my pigments and am blown away by how easy this shit is to use for design. For those who don't know, here are a few examples 5R 3/4, 5Y 9/20, 10PB 2/26, N3.

The formula is (Hue slice) (Value)/(Chroma). Where this system differentiates from...

Do you prefer realism or surrealism? Why? Do you think one takes more skill than the other? Why or why not?

Surrealism takes creativity
Realism takes skill
Photorealism is a waste of time

generally, and this goes toward all art, if i look at it, and cant tell what the fuck im looking at i dont like it.

if i look at art and i, as someone whose skills suck all kinds of dick think i could legitimately do equal or better work, i don't like it.

what i apreciate in art is skill, not a story or a message, raw fucking skill, now if that skill is pushing a message or a story, all the better.

there are some exceptions with needing to know what the fuck i'm looking at, and...

I remember the last time I went to our states modern museum. They have a room for surrealism, and I felt like I needed to shake a layer of dust off my shoulders. Surrealism has had its time. Dalí was a really talented painter but the motif world of the whole movement is just... After that there was the cubism room, as if things couldn't get worse. The things that stood out in their collection was some Matisse and Klee and a few other things, like the Soviet propaganda posters. But my point is, surrealism really is dead and I feel like there isn't much point in discussing it anymore.

last one reached bump limit so here's my question

can someone help me out with photoshop brushes? how do you guys organize your brushes? i've downloaded multiple brush packs by good artists that were recommended here, but all of them were like 200+ brushes with loads of stamps etc.

that would not be a problem, because i'd try them all, but i cant find an effective way to organize them in ps. you just move them to the...

No matter how much I practice trying to draw faces, with pencil, it always turns out like shit, and I draw as light as possible, and I am long passed that symbol drawing shit.

My features always look like shit, and even worse, I can't even get the jaw to look right, one side is always curved differently than the other. What the hell can I do? Practice is useless if I keep doing the same fuckups.

Draw yourself in the mirror to failure. Multiple angles. H lead pencil. Try not to erase; put down confident lines and ghost them to find the right placement.

And don't forget that all those soft features lie on a solid foundation that is the skull.
>>
>>2367379
post your work
>>
Nobody can tell you much if you refuse to post examples.

If you're already aware of what you're doing wrong, try to practice those factors in isolation. If your feature placement is fine, do some studies of just the features. Draw a bunch of simple heads and work on the jaws, etc. Do a full portrait on occasion to apply it all at once though.

I'm pretty sure by now conceptart.org is used almost exclusively by the uttermost newest of wannabe newbies. and blackspot.

I lol so hard whenever I see the (516 users browsing here) (3712 users browsing) (2 million users browsing the entire forums currently)

Sure thing Jason, sure thing.

Yeah, I'm frustrated with CA for purging everything as well. Haven't been back ever since.

I actually have a few folders on my hd containing (partial) CA SBs of people like wes burt, marko djurdjevic (sp?), janaschi, appleflinger that I saved off here (there was a thread to share art folders), but i don't know if i can be assed to find a place to upload right now.

If someone has any I'd like to have it too. :O CA had some great sketchbooks, but only the latest pages are alive the rest met oblivion.

Sometimes I feel like visual art doesn't matter as much today as it did around the turn of the century. The primary visual media people consume today is cinema. Back in the day painting kind of filled that roll. Music is also huge today. Sometimes it feels like 2D is on the way out as something important and regularly viewed by the public. Nobody gives a shit. What do you think?

I bought a Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch in 2011, thinking it would get me drawing again. It didnt, I barely used it in all these years, just ocassionally connecting it twice a year and thats it. Well Ive been trying to get it set up again for some time and it just doesnt work anymore, but I refuse to accept it. How can it just go bad like that? I didnt drop it, I always kept it safe, how can it from one day to another just suddenly not work anymore? Windows 7/8 doesnt recognize it, Wacom drivers dont recognize it, it doesnt lit up anymore when I connect it... I tried 3 different computers, and nothing.

Could it be the cable? Ive tried 3 mini USB cables, all work for my phone, but none with the tablet... do I need a special one? I feel so hopeless, like I cant do anything about it but suck it up...

It's not pc, it's not cable, looks like it really the pad itself. If not for the fact that it doesn't lit up I'd say you would have had a chance, but the this fact makes me think that something critical has happened. Don't know what you're so pissed about, you had 5 years to fully utilize it and while finding that it suddenly broken is upsetting you're really overreacting with hopelessness and stuff.
>>
>>2373012
Yeah Im not blaming Wacom or anything, Im just seeing the use I gave it and I want to hit myself... even more because Im relativelitely poor so I wont be able to afford another one for a while... still Ive got a ton of paper and I know you guys advocate paper over digital for newbies so Im glad theres that!

I just sort of wanted a definitive answer on whether theres any chance of it working or I have to throw it away...
>>
Now that Im bac to pen and paper, at what level fo proficiency should I switch to digital?

It seems like Anthony Jones got a book funded from Kickstarter and his backers haven't received their books yet. The book itself is available for purchase on Amazon. This doesn't make sense. Thoughts?
