learn to paint values with grayscale first and quit studying anatomy for the shake of anatomy, learn to draw form, then values, then color
>>2371622
Alright, so grayscale first, then color. Where do I go about learning that? Any book or video suggestions with heavy focus on it you can point me to?
>>2371609
Wow, that colored lighting flash app at the bottom is real neato
>>2371639
get NMA videos, there's good lessos to that, if you want to learn quicker, don't try to copy values, just focus to design contrasts to make ilusions of depth
Is there a way to increase your creativity? I've been doing so many academic style drawings lately that I feel like I can't do anything unique or memorable.
When I sit down to draw something "fun" as a break from yet another study, I end up drawing some banal monster, knight or other unoriginal crap.
What can I do to get out of this rut? How does /ic/ flex it's creative muscles?
a practice i always enjoyed was to get two people to give me the first word that came to mind, and to incorporate that in to a drawing. i think brainstorming original ideas takes a matter of stepping away from what you're used to and instead inventing on a conceptual, symbolic, and linguistic level. you could always pen down some words and figure out how to best portray them in a design sense.
also, i really dig the brushwork in that pic. if it's yours, how did you achieve that wash of colour? it's really nice.

I wish it was my work. It's Yoji Shinkawa.
Any of you guys use PS CC torrented or cracked?
I think it's time for me to upgrade (currently on cs5.1) because there are a couple of absolutely frustrating bugs that I would hope to be able to deal with that way.
Thoughts?

Yeah I have cracked cs6, everything works great.

That's really cool. I love that rusty bronze-y color.
And yes I know bronze oxidizes, I'm just saying it's a color something like rust or bronze.
The more obscure your image host, the better you are as a human being.
It's just science.

/ic/ how do i get this sort of gesture sketch style to when I draw in pencil? It's so attractive. Any tips to practice pressure and sketching in general?
git gud
>>2369689
Find some of those model posing videos or websites and draw with a fine ballpoint pen, it'll feel kind of like pencil but you'll gain confidence through lack of erasing.
>>2369701
my problem with that is that i don't have enough variation of pressure with my strokes. I draw strokes in one continuous line. My sketching is always sloppy and pressed way too hard.
I am currently employed full time (working 9-5 but wake up at 7am and get home bam6pm due to transportation). It's not a very strenuous job but by the time I get home every day I am utterly pooped. I have been trying to do my studies but if it's not the weekend I am so slowed down. I just got home not too long ago and I just want too crash... but I really need to keep practicing. I want to get 3 contour drawings done but I also want to sleep. Also gotta cook.

Honestly anon, the answer you are looking for is complicated and simple at the same time.
Let me tell you this though, motivation is nothing. It's a waste of time. You need discipline.
This isn't that hard if you have the right mindset. Why are you drawing? Really ask yourself that.
Be real with yourself and figure it out. If you want to improve asap you will have to sacrifice a lot.
This is just a small amount of it but you will have to find your own answer. Good luck.
Don't cook. Sleep less. Coffee
5hrs sleep a day hurts when you wake up, but a quick shower puts you back in action fast.

Time management; knowing what you can do in a certain period of time. Like what the anon above said, motivation is unreliable, and discipline usually does the job when wanting to improve. Being motivated and disciplined though is the optimal state when you want to learn something.
Take your time. No need to rush.
Anyone know what this book is? I have a PDF of it, it appears to be a sculpting book, I was just wondering if it was ever printed in english, or anything like it.
Wrong bored

What board is correct? This is an art board after all, although /ic/ is more illustration/conceptart/animu.
Just wondering if anyone has seen this before, or know of any english books like this. I found it on /ic/ a while back anyway.
I'm looking for some modern great watercolor painters who specifically offer online education courses.
So far I've found James Gurney, Marco Bucci, and Nathan Fowkes (pictured)
All that I do is watercolor/white-gouache paintings outdoors. These three are god-tier.

So I hear "it's never too late" a bunch, but who are actually some artists that actually started late (mid-20s) and weren't just jobbers?
It isn't ever too late, either stop being an insecure bitch baby and get on with drawing and your life or quit if you think it's so impossible.
But sure I'll play your game, this is Anthony Holden who works at story development or something at Dreamworks last time I checked. He didn't start drawing in earnest until he was 26.

yo dude i have a question. there was this guy i found on concept art or some website that used to work for pixar, and he did these really trippy story boards in ink of cartoon eyeballs. do you know who im talking about?
>>2370050
Sean Galloway aka Cheeks. He never drew much before he was around 28. He went into military service and served on a Navy ship for 2 years. While he was out there he had a lot of time to himself and he started working really hard on his art. When he got done with his service he came back, and started posting his stuff online. He was noticed quickly by Sony Entertainment and did character designs for them for a while, and from there he was hired to draw the Teen Titans comic, and the rest as they say is history.
