A week ago I did cardio on a rowing machine, and right after that I had a sharp pain in my back (pic related). I'm taking some ibuprofen and it relieves me from the pain for a while, but what can I do besides that to prevent it from happening ?

not doing cardio on a rowing machine
>>
>>36815035
Actually I have been working on the rowing machine for a while before this incident and I didn't have any problems at all, so I don't understand why this incident happened to me now
>>
>>36815064
because you were doing cardio on a rowing machine

just run/swim/rope man, no need to crush your back for cardio

Yes. Pic related of neverr making it.

If genetics were everything how come ripped people have to train?

Everyone can look "buff" or "athletic" to the average person. Almost no one can reach the highest level of professional body building.

It's all a mix of traning, diet, performance enhancing drugs and growth hormons, genetics and other things like getting enough sleep.

But since the vast majority of people nowadays are couch potatoes, just lifting for fun- but with serious effort - without the use of drugs or having good genetics will make you look "huge" compared to the average guy.

If you want to be the next mr olympia forget about it if you have to ask.

So when did this "protein is overrated" meme start?

If you count your non-animal based protein in your 1 g/lbs or 1.8gxkg you are making absolutely no gains.

"Protein" is a fucking myth. Chad's diet consists of beer and cold pizza yet he's more aesthetic than any of us.

Safety bars are fucking up my gains.

The power rack at my gym is like pic related, except the lowest notch for the safety bars places the bar about 5-6 inches above my chest, which means I have to do 3/4 reps.

If I go any lower and hit the bar on heavier lifts, it messes up the motion and I can't get the bar back up.

Asking for someone to spot at my gym is not an option because
a) My gym doesn't have that kind of atmosphere
b) We're British and we don't do that

So what should I do? Ditch the safety bars and just lift less weight? Or should I try a different lift?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Put plates under the bench. If you're failing you just stop arching your back and then the bar should hit the safety bars.
>>
>>36814320
where do you go to the gym, i'm british and people spot in our gym

Do you go to one of those district council run sports centres
>>
>>36814367
A puregym in a busy highstreet. It's always ridiculously busy. People don't have time to spot you. They just want to get their routine in and get out.

I work at home.

Shit's hectic, so I still tend to prepack or go with simple things. My most common lunch is a can of tuna with yellow mustard on 12-grain toast.

Often I'll do something in the pressure cooker on Sunday, like a loosely Mexican flavored pulled chicken. I'll eat on that all week. Usually as part of a salad. I try to emulate my usual double black bean, double chicken, no rice, salad from Chipotle.

My roommate packs whatever he had as leftovers the night before when he was watching his wife's kids. Often pasta.

(He's not going to make it.)

Enough to build big arms?
48 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
Probably.

I still do a few sets of curls and skullcrushes just to be sure though, but yeah - chinups & dips make my arms incredible pumped, far more pumped than arm isolation exercises do.
>>
>>36814245
This.

You need high volume to build big muscles anywhere. Do your main compounds and then some Isolation Lifts to round it up.
>>
>>36814214
overhead presses, pullups, rows and dips are all you need to have great arms.

- The overhead press work your shoulders from extension to full flexion
- Pullups work them from full flexion to extension
- Inverted rows/Bent over rows work your shoulders from partial flexion to partial hyperextension
- Dips takes them from hyperextension to extension

Dips and pullups alone are not enough to hit all the possible ROM your shoulders have in both flexion/extension/hyperextension as all the heads of your biceps and one of the triceps aid your shoulders to move into that ROM, pullups and dips are not enough to fully hit all the muscles of your upper arm.

In what kind of sports can you still go pro if you're in your mid-30s?

Chess.

Real answer: none, if you still have to start from the bottom at 30+.

What about golf?

>>36814168

He could very well be a competitive Masters athlete, but as for competing against seniors, it's unlikely he'd be able to go pro in any sports, regardless of talent.

Track and field has a lot of technique to learn first, and with the high loading in the more common sports, (sprinting, long jump, triple jump), an older athlete couldn't train often enough to even get to a national level. 12-16x bodyweight going through a single limb during the triple jump isn't something an older athlete can handle.

Perhaps throwing sports may be an option, but again I doubt it. Consider the slower route and compete in Masters, or just don't do sport. It's pretty bad for you.
