The first time I tried a well-made liver and bacon. People always overcook it, but when it's done right it's mouthgasm-tier.

Scotch steaks were on sale.
The whole fillets were still mad expensive, so I had to get precut.

They're a little thin so I had some trouble getting a sear going without cooking it the whole way through.

Any way, I've literally never cooked steak. How did I do?

what the fuck is a scotch steak?

hard to tell the sear because of that sauce you got on it. what is it?

looks to be about medium. you fucked up a little bit. don't cheap out for a thin cut next time unless you have a grill that can get hot enough to sear each side for 1 minute.

Marie-Antoine CarĂªme invented that sauce, you'd have to ask the French why the Italians stole it from them before you do anything.
>>
what's not to like about tomato sauce? I mean its pretty good. it makes all kinds of pasta taste delicious.

We're coming up quickly to the finale of the holiday season, /ck/. After that, it's all drudgery until St. Patrick's Day (Valentine's is in there, but that's not a mass-celebratory holiday).

So....what are you making?
I think I'm just going to make a huge pot of chili, with various accompaniments so people can just do what they like with it. (And the leftovers will taste good with the black eyed peas on New Year's Day). And I'm making a trifle, which I was supposed to make for Christmas, but we had too many desserts as it was. Plus, I'll probably have a tray of crudites, and a tray of cut fruit as well. And of course, alcohol of various kinds, but mostly champagne.
Hopefully no one will barf on my patio like they did last year.

It's Boxing day/ Saint steven's day currently... i'll let you know what's on the agenda for the next holiday when these are over with.
>>
>>7204294
Just because it's one holiday today, does not mean you can't be thinking of the next holiday, which is only 5 days away (4 if you don't count today).
Also, why did you bother to post if you're in the middle of celebrating?
>>
>>7204305

I'll probably go to East Ham, Barking or Dagenham and kill some migrants in honor of the new year. I dislike my city being so over run with raping, looting, rioting crybabies who don't eat rashers or Christmas hams.

That's probably what I'll be doing in all honesty.

What do you accomplish by searing a steak in a pan for a couple minutes per side, then putting it on the oven at 400?

Why not just finish in it a pan?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
it would get too dark if you tried to cook a thick steak all the way in a pan
>>
>>7204132
the pan is too hot, it'll burn the steak or the drippings in the pan. the oven also heats evenly so you don't have to keep flipping.

although i've found a way that's a little easier and you don't need to use the oven. just cook your steak on medium low until it's near your desired doneness, and set it aside on a plate. then heat the pan to medium-high/high, and sear it.

What if it's a relatively thin/normal NY strip?
