As I have searched sites for electronics stuff, I notice that there is a lot of different arduino unos around.
I got to wondering, "how many kinds are there?" So just for fun, I collected screen shots of what I could remember, or find easily.
Also if you are not yet into arduinos you might wonder how to into? Welp here we are.
What I looked for:
1. arduino uno copies, mainly with the arduino uno style pin headers that would take uno-style shields (even if not fully functional!)
2. hardware layouts: I notice that many different companies re-arrange the pieces when they do uno copies. I don't know why, but they do,,, ?its not like they aren't capable of doing an exact copy?,,, so some of them are noted. Oddly enough,,,,, NO Chinese companies I saw did this with their Mega copies, at all. The Mega copies are sometimes different colors, but always have all the components in the exact same places.
3. additional features, while still being basically a uno copy. There is a lot like this lurking out there in China-land
4. color variations: because why the hell not? its like /fa/ for geeks
5. oddball machines: not really arduino uno copies, but notable anyway
I did not pay so much attention to manufacturers, because you don't always know that. Some pages just give the english-letter initials of the chinese manufacturer's name, or don't say at all.
Most of these are found on Aliexpress, while some are on DealExtreme. And a couple from other sites as noted.
And away we go!!!!
Our first stop is what I would call "the usual China copy". It is a dark-blue SMD chip copy, with no special features added.
It has a SMD chip and a regular USB plug. (Variations of SMD/DIP chips and USB plugs are common, so I didn't get them all)
Note #1: there is two colors of blue common: a dark navy blue and a blue-green color, but I didn't show the blue-green color.
Note #2: I include the store names if you want to go buy one, but I'm not intending to advertise for the stores. I didn't hunt for the lowest price, so you may...

The second pic shows a hardware variation: this model has two crystals (the silver oval things).
I think this has something to do with what USB chip they use, but I dunno for sure. Some uno copies have one, some have two and some appear to have none, tho they may have a SMD version that just looks smaller and different.
This model doesn't appear to have any special features.
Example #3 is the Sparkfun Redboard, on the right. A standard official Arduino Uno DIP is shown on the left (pic taken from Sparkfun's website).
The official Uno costs about $25, and Sparkfun decided to make a copy for about $5 less.
The Sparkfun copy is all SMD parts and uses a different USB chip, but doesn't have any special [functional] features.
I have a Wurlitzer 3400 that wont play side A only B. I replaced the side 1 solenoid that moves the small arm that selects the side but no dice,it moves into place but not long enough for the mechanism to catch the arm and goes back to the resting position choosing side b every time. It seems that everything is working but its like there's a timing issue with that soldenoid does anyone know what my issue might be?
op here the pic updated with the small selector arm circled
Are the gears fine?
not really they have good size teeth on them but the gears dont seem to have anything to do with the side selection, that little arm is what really engages everything
First off, i hope this is a good board to post this on, it was either this, or /a/...
DISCLAIMER-I don’t have much experience with 2-strokes, or any small engine OR carbs lol. My last experience with a small motor was atleast 7 years ago, and i couldn’t get the carbs to run ever again afterwards lol.
Anyways… so i just got this thing today for $40 bucks. Was told by the kid that it didn’t have spark, and that i would probably need a new motor.
Long story short, i put gas in it, and it cranked up, lol.
It cranked HARD though, and this is my issue..
It...

I am fairly new at welding so I just came here for some advice. So I have this welding machine. It only has a knob to make amperage higher and lower. I use 2.5mm electrodes, the metal i tried welding on to was also about 2.5mm thick.I cleaned it and tried and at first i got a lot of sticking,so i amped it up to the electrode recommended setting of 70, and it was sticking like a motherfucker, so i got it higher to about 80 and then beyond. I started getting a bit of a splatter and the arc was really hard to make upon contact.
My general questions are:
-Is getting an arc...

The bulging weld in question
My other welds i did a while back.Just wondering if they are ok or if i am looking for something else
>>989389
that welder isn't great for starting arcs. the best machines strike first time every time and keep the stick lit even when you're using it wrong - but the actual welds produced are no better.
honestly your welds look normal. i'd say you're good to go for basic farm-welding tasks like making brackets, shrinking bearing races, and welding nuts onto rounded-off bolts.
and they swarm this time of year. Should I be worried? I told my landlord but he made it very clear that he doesn't give a shit.
>>989036
As long as they are not chewing on the structure of your house...
>>989036
Do you have a wood framed house? Or is it brick or steel?
If its wood framed then you're pretty fucked, you could wait for the house to collapse on you and then sue the shit out of your landlord though.
>>989044
This. OP make sure you are dead, then you can sue your landlord for killing your life and ask for hundreds of thousands in compensation.
What are the coolest projects you have seen that use an Arduino Uno or Adafruit Trinket. I have two of each and am slowly learning to work them.
I recently built a music box using the Uno. It plays Zelda's Lullaby and my friend loved it.
What have you guys been working on?
What do you want to build?
Making a thermoelectric cooler with PID control using an Arduino Nano. Similar to the one in the pic.
Slowly getting all the parts together for this https://youtu.be/s3dBox-LB7I. A midi synth guitar. Only need to buy the three softpots but those are expensive as fuck.

how i can get into arduinos?
So I've posted a few times before about my decellularization projects. First I did fruit, then I did a liver and now I finally got around to doing a whole heart. The process removes all the cellular material from a piece of tissue to leave only a white scaffold. This has become a fairly common technique in tissue engineering as the scaffold could be used to grow a new heart if you seed it with your own stem cells. I made a video going through the whole process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjcMyicfrL8
>>988807
that's really cool.
did you ever compare weights prior and post decellularization?
>>988881
No but now that you mention it I wish I had. woulda been cool to see how much stuff comes out
>>988881
I can say that it felt a lot lighter when I picked it up though
So I saw this thing in the picture and now I want to make a similar contraption. Mine would be much simpler and more of a clock chime than a musical instrument though. I need input on my design.
I'm only concerned about the marble escalator part so far. I'll worry about the rest later on.

A crude sketch of my design:

check out 'Denha' channel on youtube. He makes marble machines.
>>986587
Why not use a chain with 'hooks' attached to grab the balls? Like mini fork lift prongs.
Post your laughable 1st attempts at shit you're competent at now ITT
maybe we can encourage some 1st timers with it, and have a sensible chuckle too
Pic related it's my 1st attempt at lost wax casting with scrap Al
>>984580
my 1st ever attempt at soldering, modding a cable, and /diy/ in general.
its stereo rca to 3.5mm aux, made it because the 3M and longer versions all cost too much dosh. didn't know about shrink tubing or electrical tape at the time, but I was smart enough to separate all the connections to prevent shorts and lucked out with the L-R channels being correct so I still use it.
1st attempt at woodworking. It's a brass resizing die holder. I had to sand it for way longer than I should have because the hole tolerances were too tight on half of em and I burned it every pass I made with the router

I found an old pc fan and i wanted to customize it. Has anybody experience with that?
>>990386
Yes.
>>990386
I took one of the mega PC fans (the 1.5A) rated ones, stripped away everything but the rotor and stator, and 3D printed a 1 foot diameter set of quadcopter blades, epoxied them on, and slowly cranked the power.
At 12Vit was spinning kinda
at 20V it was wobbling
At 30V it started smoking
At 32V it took off, tipped over, shrapneled the blades, and started on fire.
In conclusion, I would not reccomend customizing computer fans.
What's with /diy/ lately? Next some idiot is going to ask of there are any cool hacks he can do with 4 inches of string.
Hey guys.
So my HTC One M8 no longer charges due to a faulty charging slot. I'm trying to replace it, bought all the tools necessary, but apparently I need to take out the sim card and SD card holders first. This requires sticking a pin into the hole near it, which can be seen from the picture.
Unfortunately, the sim card hole is damaged and therefore the metal near it covers it up. It's impossible to access. How do I fix my phone if I can't get my sim card out?
If someone can help I'd be extremely grateful. Already cut myself trying...

Can you take a picture of what it looks like at the moment? Having some trouble understanding what is covered by what. Did you bust the phone up so bad the hole is covered or is the tray warped?
>>990293
I'd take a picture, but my phone is dead atm, as it is usually nowadays. The phone is so busted up that the hole is covered up, yeah.
>>990293
The tray is fine, it's just the hole by it that is messed up.
Hey /diy/. I have paintball parts. (HPA tank, high pressure regulator & hose) and a gas mask. -IF- I were to connect the 2 (via an adapter for the 40mm mask) and try to breathe through it, what are the chances it doesent work or I rupture my lungs? Pic semi related, some of you guys faces after reading this post.
>>990172
masks are supposed to release pressure from the inside to the outside
others only filter the inputs with no regards of pressure differential
nothing will happen unless the mask you are taking about is a diving dress
why you want to do this anyway? the tanks of those marker/pistols are filled with co2. if you wanna off yourself it wont work
>>990180
No the HPA tanks are for compressed air. What if I blocked off the exhale valve on the mask and put a one way valve after the regulator? So that there'd be low pressure air, and it'd only be pumped into the mask when I inhaled? And im not trying to off myself, just looking for something to do with these spare parts.
>>990183
Or better yet I wont even block off the exhale. So when I breathe in the valve from my air source opens, and when I exhale the exhale valve opens and the other closes?
So I live in military housing and want to replace the counter in my bathroom because it's ugly as hell. Problem is, being military housing, I can't do that. Is there a way to lay something thin on top without damaging the permanent counter? I was thinking of doing a sheet of copper but I have no idea how to attach it.
Copper is malleable, just bend it around the edge, the bigger problem you're going to have is corrosion
>>990105
This. Copper is gonna start going green on you and it will start transferring to stuff you put on it. It will leave marks on the bottom of coffee cups and such. It will get nasty fast. Don't prep food on it unless you don't mind it tasting funny. Wont make you sick though. You'll have to coat it with something. Also, have you priced out a shoot of cooper of that size?
>>990071
Why copper? It's expensive and soft and will corrode. Get a thin sheet of aluminum or even plastic, like 1/8 or 1/4 inch, that'll be cheaper and easier. Where can you even find a sheet of copper?
hey /diy/,
I have some old kitchen drawers that i'd like repainted. Question is, can I use wall paint or is it not safe for food utensils?
>>989959
oil based paint is best unless you can get your hands on some lead oxide based paint. anything else will give you cancer.
>>989959
I assume you're painting the entire drawer and not just the drawer fronts if you're concerned about contact with utensils. The best paint I've used, although expensive is called Reclaim. Its around $120 per gallon, but I only needed one gallon for the kitchen drawer fronts and cabinet doors i did. Its very forgiving if your prep and cleaning of the cabinets isnt perfect, especially on old grease covered wood. Its super thick and self levels pretty well so it doesnt show brush lines or roller marks,...

I just wanted some information about whether wall paint is safe for contact with utensils. I'll look into your product tho.
Is there anything on the label that would indicate it's safe for being near edible products?
Hi,
about 7 hours ago i was experimenting with a (faulty) esp8266.
I noticed that sometimes it freezes and doesn't boot properly, the red led (that states it's ON).
I thought it was a power supply problem, so i used a atx power supply.
The esp8266 was powered with an AMS1117 3.3V linear regulator, that can provide 1 Ampere of current.
Now that's the problem, the module had the same faulty behavior.
I touched it's antenna (sometimes after this it started working properly) and i felt a tingling sensation in my hand. I then tried again...

Errata corrige in the third line:
"I noticed that sometimes it freezes and doesn't boot properly, while the red led (that states it's ON) remained off"
>>989956
Oh yeah, they can be random.
If you haven't, add some caps as close to the power pins as you can. It's very jumpy with the power and some filter caps solve most of the instability issues.
Also, look up some range tests on youtube for it. It's a bit scary.
>>989956
wouldnt it burn before doing any sort of damage to you? i mean, if it was really doing that 3.3w transmit with no heatsink it would most likely burn pretty fast, right? (isnt that chip power rating about 100ma or so?)
>transmit data is like ac @ 2.4ghz
>low voltage ac tingles
can this be your explanation op, i mean the antena is bare copper
