Why are western orcs Big Green Muscle dudes and Japanese Orcs Porcs?
Why are western Kobolds tiny dragon rat people and japanese Kobolds dogs?

the telephone game.
>>46087063
Because the Japanese operate on a different level
Not a higher level
Just different
>>46087063
Early D&D orcs were pig men. Green muscle dudes came much later.
The dog kobolds come from fan translations of D&D, where it said they had "dog-like faces" it got misunderstood as "dog people."
Pic related, the changing face of D&D kobolds over the years. (the 2e goblin-like ones should be their own entry, though)

Reposting my thoughts on Tempest Gale. The way I've been looking at it is this:
>Archery with full investment is always going to be full attacking as their best choice. Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Deadly Aim, Clustered Shots, Manyshot. Once you have these feats and the needed gear, you're good to go. This is all you will do.
>Tempest Gale and Solar Wind support that in minor ways. Dipping into it gives you stances, boosts, and counters. Early stances can let you get better range and shoot through wind wall effects.
>Tempest Gale and Solar Wind ALSO let you do competent ranged stuff WITHOUT that investment. Point Blank Shot and Precise Shot are all you need to strike with it. Put the other feats elsewhere, maybe get the Finesse/Deadly Agility pair to switch hit, or pick up Akashic feats, or focus on utility, or do literally anything else.
A ranged strike-focused initiator gains the ability to spend those resources on other aspects of their build. A ranged full attack-focused initiator dips into the ranged disciplines for the tools that support full attacking, and that is all the disciplines offer to them, because there's no way to balance strikes as a "better" alternative to fully optimized ranged attacking.
Honestly, it's pretty much the Wizard of combat styles. Are you ranged full attacking? Great! You delete everything from range unless they have a specific counter. Are you ranged and not full attacking? You're intentionally nerfing yourself. Are you melee? Why aren't you ranged full attacking, it does more damage in more situations, etc.
What are you guys' (or girls' I guess) thoughts on this? Does Tempest Gale have a valid niche as a ranged option for people who aren't going all-in on ranged feats for optimizing full attacks? I think it does, and that it otherwise supports the full attacker style well enough to function.

I'm assuming they're some manner of good aligned.
Brain eating: animals less nutritious but will sustain them. Alternatively they summon bind and consume evil beings.
As for recruiting: Either they let the humanoids that recruit with promises of psionic power keep their personalities through the transformation and/or they have some sort of arrangement with local settlements to harvest fresh dead and/or go on periodic crusades to capture evildoers to convert to their cause.
>From the Black crusade Core rule book:
"Drifting on the very edge of the Gloaming Worlds is a small pinprick of icy reality called by the denizens of the Screaming Vortex the Anathema. For some unknowable reason, the energies that seethe and boil across the Vortex do not touch this small volume of space, seeming instead to flow around and recoil from it. What lies within the Anathema has never been determined, but some refer to it as a region of order in the midst of disorder, of hated purity amongst glorious sin, or as cold silence in an ocean of roiling cacophony. Some have even claimed it marks the final resting place of a great hero of the Imperium. Whatever the truth, those of the Vortex fear and hate it as much as those who dwell in the material realm hate the Screaming Vortex or even the Eye of Terror."
Is this where the Emperor possibly is? Don't the Denizens of the warp call the Emperor "The Anathema"?
Maybe the place draigo ends up in after he dies in the warp? Maybe even the location of the star child. Or maybe even where Vulkan resides, waiting for the day the Imperium needs him. Who knows (Tzeench), who cares.

Right, okay. One final update. If no one sees any major problems, I'll upload it to the drive.
Changelog:
>Realized I goofed and completely forgot a companion section, so I added that
>Added Pick a Name, Any Name
>Lowered Dual Disciplines to 200 CP
>Replaced Good Ol' Fisticuffs with The Lowest Form of Wit
>Added more drawbacks
Alrigth so I get that powers have their own compartment/box and that perks have a pool
Magic from setting A doesn't mix directly with setting B.
Strength perks all add up, even if the origin is supposedly different, like railgun pyrokinesis, marvel telekinesis and teen titans pyrokinesis.
But what about stuff that depends on things affected by other perks?
Say, Soul eater's Madness and Evengelion's Waveform physiology, by all means, the fact that your soul is like that would mean that you would look like a monster, let alone how a Hellsing vampire would interact with it.
How does it work for you? or is it a jumpchain thing that keeps these kind of stuff from tearing you apart metaphysically giving you a different plane soul for each power?
>>46086474
Fanwank it.
That is to say, decide for yourself how they interact.
Personally I treat them as different powers, but that's my choice.
Will cost 13 Dollarinos.

I can find 8 instances in that image of the number 13.

Hey /tg/,
Howcome there's no good 'fight with your toys' RPGs? Something like Medabots or Zatch Bell, where the combat is done via people yelling at other characters to do attacks?
Hell I'd even settle for a Beyblade RPG if there was one. (edit: no I won't.)
And I'm not talking about Pokemon where you're yelling at a non-character. I want some goddamn sass from my Net-Navigator when I try to get him to run face-first into a missile attack from the enemy's Helicopter themed viruses!

I'm running a campaign in the Forgotten Realms in D&D 5e, and I was thinking of including the Bregan D'aerthe in it. How would you stat and build Jarlaxle in D&D 5e?
>>46164808
I wouldn't. At all.

Fighter?

I feel like, with his charisma, he might be a Fighter/Rogue, with combinations of Battlemaster and Swashbuckler. That's why I'm bothering to ask in the first place. Where does the Swashbuckler start, and where does the Battlemaster end? I feel like he'd be close to level 17, but I can't tell where he would stop Rogue. I'm tempted to think:
Rogue 7/Fighter 10
But I'm not entirely sure.
You're starting a new campaign when your players come to you with all their characters being bards.
What do you do?
What would the campaign you run be like?
Will you make it centered around the bards being bards, or see how long a group of bards survives with whatever your original plans were?
Present them the same problems you would as if they were a balanced group. Let they be creative for once, as they weren't while doing their characters.
Obviously the BBEG has to be an evil rival band trying to take over the kingdom.
all encounters are solved by performing music routines. messing up part of the song or dance results in the opponents gang banging you to death

Time to stop the shitpost and begin reformatting then
You roamed around the city, without a real purpose or destination. People seemed to not really mind you until you donned the necklace. Then they started giving you dirty looks.
What was it, was the necklace out of fashion? Was there something on your face?
Was it a national sport?
You couldn’t tell.
You were almost annoyed at how invisible or otherwise shunned you were, until you felt what it was like to be noticed.
A man wearing strange clothes spotted you from the distance.
His eyes grew in size several times over, so much that the expression “Having eyes larger than the stomach” transcended the metaphorical to become literal.
Then he literally rushed at you, his arms wide open as in an embrace.
You dodged him at the last minute, causing him to crash on an innocent bystander.
“Sorry”, you coldly stated. “I am not the hug kind of guy”.
While the bystander was still on the ground, rubbing his head in pain, the guy you supposed to be the priest crawled to your feet and gripped your ankles tight.
“YES, YES!” he screamed, overjoyed. “20 years! 20 long years of fasting and praying I have endured, but now the Goddess pays it all back! HAH!” he rose to his feet again, just to point his admonishing index finger to the onlookers that had gathered around.
“HAH! CHECKMATE, ATHEISTS! There you go! Here is a real Outer! What now, huh? Will you still spout your nonsense?”
Most people just ignored his ramblings, some others seemed pissed off enough to prompt you to grab him by his robes to make him stop.
So now there you were, the Outer and the Priest, one in total amazement, another in total confusion.
Maybe it’s better to take advantage of the situation to the fullest.
>What’s written on this necklace?
>What is an Outer?
>What kind of drugs do you take and can I have some?
(betcha nobody saw this coming eh)
>>46160018
>What is an Outer?
>>46160157
“Excuse me holy dude, while we’re at it, what is an Outer?”
The Priest gives you a puzzled look. “Odd question, coming from an Outer. But let me elaborate.
Outer is the name we give to beings like you, that exist outside of our dimension. It makes sense, does it not? You are not inside our world, therefore you’re Outers”
“Flawless logic so far. Go on”
“There are two kind of Outers. The ones of the Rising Sun are by far the most potent, as well as to be rumored to be the ones who created this Universe. As the Outers of the Setting Sun became more and more interested in the creation of the Outers of the Rising Sun, they started watching over us.
It is rumored that the Setting Sun Outers were the model on which the Rising Sun Outers modeled the denizens of this world, but it’s just speculation and apocrypha. The Setting Sun Outers are also considered on average to be more lenient and benevolent towards each other, so citizens more devoted to the Setting Sun than to the Rising Sun are not unheard of”
“I see. I recall the Goddess talking about something like that, but it’s not like I was paying any attention to her whatsoever”
The priest nods, then rubs his chin pensively “Forgive me for the abruptness, but tell me, do you possess your powers still?”
“Powers? Which powers?”
“But the power of naming of course!”
“You’ve lost me there, buddy”
“Hm, how can I explain?Well, let’s see, denizens of this world don’t go by a name. We embody a concept, and a concept is merely a mix of stereotypes and archetypes. It’s instead proper of the Outers to be able to give names to people. So I ask of you, what name would you assign me?”
“The Priest”, you respond flatly. “There are many arguments I could mention in favor of my decision, but I suppose the fact that you’re a Priest is probably the most important one”
Can someone recommend a fantasy TRPG to me?
After playing 3.p I really want to try something else.
>Taking damage/wounds actually has an impact besides your HP going down
>Isn't a d20 based system (please)
>Doesn't need to be a class based system, just picking and choosing abilities for your character is just as fine as something class based
>Magic/magic classes exist but aren't overpowered and can't do literally whatever they want
>Has a decent bestiary and information on how to scale encounters
>Isn't super difficult to learn and hundreds of pages long (I have trouble learning new systems and I'd be the game master anyway so this is probably the biggest thing)
>Optional: Has some online support and not just pdfs
Thank you.
RuneQuest of some variety?
Would you be willing to go for a generic system?
Savage Worlds works well for a grittier fantasy setting.
>no classes
>magic is an option but it's more a versatile tool than something purely superior to other options
>no d20s except for random tables
>decent bestiary and ways to (roughly) scale encounters
>wound levels mean you hurt when a hit gets through
>>46159623
Ooh, this might be fun too.
>Taking damage/wounds actually has an impact besides your HP going down
There's two ways this can go. Wound Penalty/Death Spiral and Narrative Tags.
The former means that as your HP reaches certain thresholds, you take a penalty to some or all actions. This makes combat very "rocket tag" and a race to put the other guy on penalties.
The latter is often either compulsory to win because the game is built around basically requiring you to "tag" the enemy with "wounds" and such to bring them down, or pointless because those actions you spent tagging the other guy with "wounds" could have been spent bringing his HP down, and when his HP reaches 0 he's dead anyway.
>Isn't a d20 based system (please)
There's a lot out there. You know what I hate? "I'm running X, it's a homebrew addition to 3.5/PF and you'll love it."
>Doesn't need to be a class based system, just picking and choosing abilities for your character is just as fine as something class based
Good, good, let the non-d20 flow through you. Character-defining abilities are good things to have, though.
>Magic/magic classes exist but aren't overpowered and can't do literally whatever they want
Here's where you'll have a problem. Magic being Not Overpowered basically requires one of two things: prescribed lists of spells, or a GM being on the ball. If you have narrative freedom in what you do, mages have an easy way to say "I can do X because magic".
>Has a decent bestiary and scaling information
This narrows it down some. Do you prefer a big set of "these are the stats for a tiger, these are the stats for a young drake, these are the stats for a goblin fighter and a goblin warlord, there are the stats for...", or are you OK with "This is how to put together stats on the fly, based on criteria"
