Hey /tg/, I'm working on a campaign and was wondering if you might be willing to help me brainstorm.

I'm building a world based strongly in the Gods Need Prayer Badly/Clap Your Hands If You Believe/Tulpa tropes. Basically, there are a bunch of gods over various things, ranging from the general (eg: God of Death, God of the South Sea), to the very specific, mundane, or just plain goofy (eg: God of Death by Impalement, God of Monday Mornings).

The world has been previously ruined by holy wars as the gods pitted believers against each other in an attempt to convert more people, since more believers == more power and standing in this ridiculous pantheon. So, much of the map is wasteland, desolate, or ruins returning to nature. Desert, various plains, jungle, tundra, etc.

What I need is gods. Lots of gods. Just ideas for what they're gods of would be helpful, but clever names are great. I've come up with a few, mostly centered around a desert theme since that's where the players have started.

Ach'to-oh - Goddess of the particular oasis the players started at
C'rara Loft - terribly named God of Tomb Raiding
Dewmb - Hypochondriac god
Hekz K'chin - God of poorly prepared food
unnamed God of Frontier Living
unnamed Goddess of Trade Caravans
unnamed God of the Beach
unnamed God of Fishing
unnamed Goddess of Dried Foods
unnamed Goddess of Tomb Raiding
unnamed God of Mummification
unnamed God of Sunburn Relief
unnamed Goddess of Shade
unnamed God of the Volcano (Dragonclaw Isle)
unnamed God of Flowing Lava (partner/twin to volcano god)
unnamed Goddess of the Lake (northeast on map)
unnamed Goddess of Natural Reclamation
unnamed God of Snowcapped Mountains

Attached is a rough map of the world, with most currently planned locations labeled. Any suggestions for more gods, for general or specific ideals, and for serious or goofy purposes, are welcome.

Alternatively, let me know if I need to bugger off to the WBG or /wsr/ for requesting.

What you've got is an incredibly broad question, and that leaves me without a lot of direction. Asking for gods, and having those gods be over just about anything, is essentially asking for a list of just about anything.

My recommendation is to take inspiration from this list.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Greek_mythological_figures

Or have fun with this one.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_deities_in_fiction

Or just go ahead and find inspiration from any of these.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_deities

As for original deities, how about:

Godog, God of Palindromes
Jenga, the God of Wooden Towers
Plipplipplop, the God of Skipping Stones
>>
>>46210324
Yeah, that's my general problem. I'm not gonna make gods for EVERYTHING, but a smattering of amusing ones to throw into lore and some to create relevant plot.

>Wikipedia lists
I'll look through these

>Godog, Jenga, and Plipplipplop
These are good. I like these.

If it were explained without a really damn good justification, yes.

Where do the ultramarine's get their recruits from? I thought most space marines recruit from death worlds yet Ultrama is one of the most civilized parts of the galaxy.

Is it a myth that violent recruits are the best recruits as the ultramarine are arguable the greatest chapter.

>>
>>46208145
The minimum requirements for potential recruits are good health and compatible genes.

Everything else is just sifting the chaff from the wheat and varies greatly from chapter to chapter.

Salamanders have insane volcanic assault courses and dragon slaying.
Space Wolves have extreme wilderness training, wolf hunting and troll slaying.
Mortificators just count how many heads you have taken and give you a score.
Blood Angels have Mad Max.
Ultramarines have an academy.
>>
>>46208278

Red Scorpions do the Spartan thing.

>>46208145

With the Ultramarine Academy, you can assume they aren't just taking whoever survives in a shitty wilderness, they're most likely actively pushing you through punishing tests, and that's after stringent candidate selection for purity.

I mean, each chapter doesn't just have their recruits peak at acceptance, there's grueling training still left to be done up through Scout Marine rank and into Tactical.

It’s been a week, and you’re bored as all hell. Between not-quite-drifting into lifeboats because your engines are toasted, taking inventory of all the semi-ruined things you didn’t need to pitch, and making a crude fishing net out of broken fishing nets, you were busy enough to always have something to do and not busy enough to not think.
>SHIP INVENORY
>FUEL: 2
>FOOD: 4
>WATER: 1
>GEAR: Fishing Rig (Poor), Toolkit (+2RP), map (North Atlantic), Solar Still (Poor)
Unfortunately, you’re stuck in a needs versus wants situation here. You NEED to get a means of getting fresh water faster than your solar still made it. You WANTED to get moving, find more lifeboats, and try to find people and loot and maybe a boat that was less shit. With the radio toasted, you were reduced to watching out from the flying bridge like some moron of old. At least you had finally started to tan- your Middle-Eastern soup heritage would certainly help in that respect, although you planned on working really hard to avoid getting Terrorist Hair. You were not going to deal with the Terrorist Ali jokes again, especially since the last round of “Fuck Euros, Draw Aggro” from ISIS before things went to shit.
You sincerely hoped those fuckers had become zombies and ate each other to death. Serves them right. Now you had to get to work and pick between the engines and the stills…

Build stills, basics of survival must be guaranteed, we can't guarantee that we can find a better ship in time.

Shouldn't be too complex to just distill seawater. We can even use the resulting sea salt to flavor some of the fish we catch, or cure extra fish if we get a good haul for a day.

Because we jump locations every block now. So you have to have an open and shut story concerning the plane you are currently on in what used to be 3 books, then 1, now a bunch of web articles and flavor text, all had to be released simultaneously with the cards, so not a whole lot of time to do the writing since they writer pool isn't as large as the development pool. They only just recently started working on an overarching plot, but no one really knows what it is. Most importantly, WotC is trying to sell cards, not lore books, so their resources go into the cards an the lore is more of an extra
>>
Shit got way too expository and detailed

Cards feel more flavorful when you get to fill in the fluff with your imagination rather than each having some cringey explanation of exactly how each card relates to the major plot

Think of that thing you never got to use in your games, be it a character, a power, a magic item, or even an entire campaign concept. For it in mind? Good.

Pitch it. Tell us what the concept is and why it would be fun. But keep it short and sweet. Maybe some other fa/tg/uy can give your concept life.

I might be making a blog collecting these sorts of things. If you don't want me to use yours, just let me know.

Here's a few of mine:

>a sailor who lost their arms in a storm that took almost their entire crew's life, they were saved by a passing sea spirit and now has prosthetic arms made of water that vary in strength with proximity to the sea

>a royal child who was prophecized to slay a great evil. when somebody else fulfilled the prophecy instead, he ran away to become a hero on his own terms rather than submit to a political life

> a charlatan so good at deceiving people that he can bring about powerful placebo and nocebo effects such as killing somebody with a poison he never possessed

> all dwarves are merely halflings taken over by an intelligent beard-shaped fungus, and the wizard who discovered this is now attempting to kill the mother beard and free those enslaved

A setting with halfling-esque beings that were all incredibly talented at geometry, who had once lived on a near-desolate island in the middle of the northern ocean.

The majority of them turned into an evil version of a Greek city-state, with direct democracy, while they harvested debris and magic goo from the oceans to power their magitech devices. A minority fled in ships, discovered the mainland, and over the generations earned a reputation as the premier shipbuilders, architects, and designers. Then the city-state discovered the mainland and set out to conquer it, with horrendous weapons of power unimaginable to the late-medieval mainlanders.

campaign failed two sessions in. I blame myself for being a poor GM who couldn't get the players excited.

Can we get a robot character / companion thread going?

Cyborgs are welcomed too.
