What to do if players complain that the opponents are too sympathetic? (And I can not understand it)
>>46249519
Tell them to roleplay accordingly. They ARE thinking about how their character might react to killing enemies, right?
>>46249519
make your monsters into heartless killing machines who the players couldn't like if they tried
Maybe stop including wives, children and dreams of pointing them through college in every cave full of bandits, goblins and bears?
Sup /tg/.
Tomorrow I'll be running the Eleventh Hour premade Only War campaign for some friends. We're all relative newcomers to actual TTRPG's, and I was wandering if y'all could give me some advice. On the adventure, on the system, on general DM'ing. Do's/Dont's, tips, anything would help.
>>46248758
You say you're all relative newcomers. How much experience do you have and with that? Especially you, OP, do have you any experience in some other system?
>>46248924
We've played a few sessions of D&D before, but that collapsed relatively quickly because we kept inviting new people and we couldn't find the time anymore. I didn't DM that time though, although the guy who did will be playing tomorrow.
>>46249012
D&D 5e, if that makes any difference.
Hi folks. Inspired by the Epic 40k thread, I'm starting a homebrew to apply the awesome rules from epic onto normal 28mm games of all sizes.
Note that I've never really played epic, so I do need help from those with experience on how the rules should work in practice.
Here's a google doc. Make comments as you please. If I'm not around, feel free to make your own copy of the document and keep it going. I'll add the majority consensus to this master copy when I get to it.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Xeo_2bdw3EIKYS9gZAJJHPGjl22MzqcClo9V8fWNsnE/edit?usp=sharing
And the Epic rules:
http://www.tp.net-armageddon.org/tournament-pack/
Right now I'm working on turn sequence. More details in the google doc, but tldr we switch off like in chess instead of moving all units from one team and then all units from the other team.
Also, someone help come up with ideas on how to do the psychic phase with this.
bump for life
>>46248648
YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
Both for bumps and progress: some ideas for psykers.
>generate psychic powers doesn't count as an action and happens when you pick a unit but before you give it an action
>witchfire powers count as shootan attacks
>other powers might count as shootan attacks
OR
>other powers get their own action that is declared from the psyker model(s) individually and doesn't count as an action unless the entire unit is a brotherhood doing the same action
Why are princes always shown to be wimply spoiled fuccbois? They are raised to lead a nation and be a walking banner of inspiration on the battle field or at least a well rounded leader with vital skills.
I liked when princes could be badasses.
Also why are most knights in anime shown on foot?
Horseback is a great advantage, allows for lancing motherfuckers into submission, and its good for showing status
>>46247964
Especially when you look at England. Either you were a fucking pathetic sod or you were a badass motherfucker who was leading armies and rebellions by seventeen.
Many princes are raised in a life of privilege and luxury, befit their nobility. Sure they can undergo military training, but what trainer would dare to slap them around and discipline them like any of his other men.
The meager and humble beginnings, harsh existence, and brutal training are what makes the badasses.

Guildmaster! Guildmaster! Look what we got in the mail!
The Adventurers Royal Office finally sent us a dungeon to clear, apparently it's some old tombs east of the Capital. I'm soooo excited, it's our first job!
>>46247682
Great news! Gather the guild members, we will begin preparation immediately.
Look at what the letter says here : ''As per the Dungeon Ecosystem Protection Act, you can only bring 4 people on this journey.''
So we won't be able to bring everyone. That's kind of shitty if you ask me.

"Pretty please?"
"Fiiine" Emi says as she rolls her eyes, turns to you, and opens her mouth.
Inside, all you see is a regular tongue. "So where do you keep the other one?"
Her tongue moves up to the roof of her mouth, revealing what looks like a little hole underneath it. Suddenly, a thin forked tongue pokes out from the hole, flicks around for a second, and then retracts back into the little hole.
"Neat" You say. "But... why even have 2 tongues?"
"The big one is for speaking and tasting. The little one is for smelling" She says, adding a little tongue flick at the end for effect.
"But you have a nose" You say.
"The nose and the tongue are more sensitive to different things, and the tongue is better for figuring out where a smell is coming from" She says.
"Satisfied?" Derrick asks.
You nod.
"Good, because we're about as close to Sherton as I'd like to bring you in our current state" Derrick says.
"What's the plan?" Ilica asks.
"I know the layout of this place pretty well, so I'll be going in. I'd rather not head in alone, so... 2 stay here, 2 go in" Derrick says.
"So who's staying and who's going?" Ilica asks.

Mostly barter on the bottom level, but warlords are expected to gift their men with gold or silver torcs and other prizes. This follows from chiefs up to kings, with the gifts reflecting the extravagance and status of the giver.
"You want to WHAT?"
Surely I must have misheard! Or maybe Amalia misspoke! Or she's joking or... or something! Either way, there's no way she can be serious! Asking Sis something like that, it's just crazy!
"I want Miss Alina to teach me the Ways of the Sword."
She is serious!
"But that's like super dangerous! You could get hurt or... or..."
"I'm not scared." She shrugs nonchalantly.
"But... but..." How can she not be scared? Swords are scary! And I still don't know why she's suddenly so polite!
Sister, meanwhile, has busied herself with rubbing the sleep from her eyes, finalizing the act with a casual yawn. "I thought you preferred the bow, Ami? Planning to apprentice for a hunter and all that?"
"I can do both." Amalia's voice is growing more intense, her ears rising to stand straight. She really isn't joking around here!
"Ohh, I see. Always a good idea to have a backup-plan, right? Good thinking."
No, it's not! It's dangerous!
"I'll do it." She states after a few moments of poorly pretending she wasn't sure. "If you convince Nadja to train with us!"
"WHAT?" Amalia cries in surprise, almost in perfect unison with mine.
"What's so surprising?" Sis asks with a puzzled look. "I just want to make sure my baby sister's gonna be safe even when I'm not around to save her!"
No no no. "But uhm..." Think of something! "I'm not sure I'd really have the time for that."
Yeah, that makes sense. I'm way way way too busy with witch training to play with scary swords!
"Riiight," She rolls her eyes, teasing. "Sunday school sure keeps you busy."
Oh right. She doesn't know that I started apprenticing as a witch. I never even told her about my plan. Sis is nice but she's not very good at keeping secrets. She's end up accidentally telling Papa and then...
But can I really lie to my sister? I guess I should...

THE RULES: http://pastebin.com/BEsprkBZ
THE TANK: http://pastebin.com/sJsgig6B
You run your hands down your uniform as you stand in front of the mirror. The lockerroms had a long row of sinks and mirrors to allow girls to put their faces on and make themselves look presentable for the days duties. Lord in heaven knows that they’ll need it considering most Naval Studies work is physical. You and your crew were busy making last minute adjustments to makeup, adjusting the collars, tightening the bands on your thigh highs or readjusting your pantyhose, the whole shebang.
“First day at work!” Winona grins, rubbing her hands together.
“I wouldn’t be so excited, y’all.” Stack looks over at all of you. You could see past her that dozens more freshmen girls were drearily getting themselves ready to work as well. “Fact of the matter is, freshmen always get the bum work, I hear. I mean, shoot, y’all could end up cleaning one of them there resupply ships the entire day.”
“Ah!” Winona nudges you on the elbow. “Ellie better hope she gets something else then, she’s got a date with-“ All of you look around, then Winona whispers in Stack’s ear. “You know who.”
“It’s not a date,” you say. “Most likely, she just wants to talk to me about how her sister is doing from the perspective of apparently one of her newly christened MVPs.” And you do not say that with a hint of modesty. You really carried that duo into the draw. You’re on the board at least, that’s what matters.
You check your watch. 6:30 AM. Oh boy! “You guys good on breakfast?” They all nod. “Alright. I gotta get going. Will you guys be fine on your own?”
“Relax,” says Ingrid as she wipes her glasses. “I think Steers and Queers and Winnie the Pooh over here can be trusted to take care of themselves for one day.”
Winona puffs her cheek out, giving a glare at Ingrid. “Are you calling me fat?”
[1/3/4?]

[2/3/4]
You roll your eyes. “Just take care of yourselves, girls. Do well on your shifts today. First impressions matter.” And with that, you pull on your satchel containing your Officer’s Pad, a set of pencils and pens, notebooks, the whole nine. Everything you need to be a successful Officer. “Good luck.” Winona hugs you, patting you on the back. You sigh, might as well. You give her a bit of a squeeze, then head on out of the lockers.

“’Ey, ey, good morning to the morning crowd.” You, several other Naval Studies Officers, and over a hundred Naval Studies students ranging from freshmen to sophomores stand in formation inside of the smelly and dreary cargo ship bays, where dozens of container ships are sitting waiting to be shipped out.
The leader of this particular group was a Junior, a Deck Officer (Rank Three) wearing a red armband on her summer uniform. “My name is Lieutenant Mallorie McLean. I am here to supervise the new Naval Studies Officers and guide them along for today.” The dark bags underneath her green eyes weren’t hidden all that well by her glasses. But the genuine warm smile coming from her combined with her half-lidded (you’d guess incredibly tired eyes) made her look rather motherly. “You can call me Mal or just Mallorie, no need for rank. I’m here to assign you all to your posts and oversee your work until about…” She reaches into her skirt pocket, then pulls out a black pocket watch. “… 2PM today, then you all can kick it hopefully if everybody does their job.”
>>46246798
[3/3]
You smile slightly, standing straight at attention between the other Rank Fours like yourself. What job could be awaiting you today? “Now,” says Lieutenant McLean. I will be assigning shifts. When you receive your Shift and assignments, fall out and report to duty. Shift 14, Ensign Caldwell.” Ensign Caldwell walks up to Lieutenant McClean. “Here are your assignments, select one, remainder will go to reserve. Shift 12, Ensign Janovic.” Ensign Janovic is next, happily bouncing and receiving her clipboard with the day’s assignments. “Shift 33, Ensign Zumwalt.”
You gasp. That’s you! You quickly and stiff walk up to her, then receive your clipboard. “Oh, I love your hair today, Ensign,” she says. Aw, you pat your hair, smiling a little. Flattering.
Alright, time to review what’s available today.

Girls gotta eat.
As noon approaches, you duck under the awning of a food cart to escape the heat. You lean on one of the wooden posts for a moment, to remove your boots and dump out the sand that has collected over the long morning you've spent searching for your mark.
As you pull your road worn footwear back on, you peer around the busy market. All around men and women dressed in long, protective clothing wander here and there, purchasing whatever catches their eye at the time. You wonder how many of them are foreign, like you, and how many of them are being ripped off as you stand here, catching your breath.
"Hello! Friend!" comes a voice from beside you. It's the owner of the stand supporting you at the moment, holding out some sort of meat on a stick, slightly charred and sizzling.
"You buy, yes!"
You only have a little coin left, but you are a bit peckish. It might be better to wait until you've found the man you're looking for to start spending though.

Master of stealth by being as loud as possible to attract more enemies to him. Master of traps by triggering all of them for more of a challenge. Master of pickpocketing by beating enemies to death with his bare hands and looting their corpses.

How do you roll up new characters? Do you believe in the heart of the cards and free roll every stat? Do you roll up a pool of numbers and apply where appropriate? Do you go fallout style and give yourself a set amount of points to distribute? Is there a different way you do it or are you the kind of dick who keeps rerolling until every stat is 20?What's your favorite dice?
My system is that you can reroll as many times as possible, but you can't swap stats or reroll individual stats. Take the entire character or leave it.
Maybe my players are just shit, but I have a feeling that points-buy would end up with minmaxing with my group. They haven't all gotten the idea that having a fairly major flaw is a good thing for a character.
>>46245821
>>46245896
Also my favourite dice for purely how it feels is the d20.
>>46245896
>>46245915
Is minmaxing really a bad thing? Wouldn't that open up possibilities for flaws? If you give the high numbers to the stats you want and neuter the ones you don't, you end up with the retarded warlock who's like an idiot savant with magic. I mean I see your point and I agree, but it would be quicker to just let them give each stat the points they want, rather than wait 4 hours until they roll those numbers up. But I guess it feels less like cheating if it happens by chance eventually.I meant dice brand and color
How do you feel about dice rollers or poppers?

Yo QM, you wanna advertise this on /wqdt/?
>You are Princess Zelda, heir to the fallen throne of Hyrule
>Your father, corrupted by Power, died in a coup, your Kingdom shattered in a civil war 10 years ago, the Hero in Green giving his life to ensure you escaped the conflict
>An uneasy peace has returned to the land, but omens of a descent into greater chaos than before loom on the horizon
>You, Zelda Hyrule, have the potential to claim your birthright and restore the Kingdom to what it once was, bring back true peace to the lands. Your path ahead is not set in stone; you must chisel it in yourself. What kind of Legend will you create?

Aveli moves along with you, a curious look on her face. You can tell that she's started to wonder what you meant by stating that statement, that the Hero in Green saved your life, but is keeping her thoughts to herself. Returning to the main hall, there's no sign of any further Darknuts around, but... there's this eerie sense that you're being watched. Zas hovers into the middle of the room, scouting ahead for a moment, then turns back to you.
"There is something unusual to the stairs to the east. I am unsure what it is. Down south I heard movement. Possibly two more Darknuts."
"That'd make six." Aveli comments. "So there's at least one more left after them. What do you think, Termina? Should we head down there and finish them off, or think we should check out the stairs to the east?"
