What is a good alternative to hitpoints?
Ironclaw has a good system. Calculate the total damage an attack does then apply all status effects from that and lesser amounts of damage. If a character is already suffering from a status effect, nothing happens when it is applied a second time.

It's theoretically okay system, but it's shit when it tells the player how their character feels and doesn't fit all systems. There are plenty of characters that when injured in combat go into an autistic frenzy and fight that much harder or simply don't give a fuck.
Other than that, I like it.
In human evolution, we wuz persistence hunters who basically tracked and stalked prey until they collapsed out of exhaustion and became easy.
What sort of primitive hunting techniques do you think defined the early evolution of the other main fantasy races?

The problem is that since they're so human like they all look like persistence hunters. Just really awkward ones.

She takes your offered hand and you step into a slow waltz, the voiceless music calling for such. The crowd cheers, and Obella looks up to you, drinking in your wildfire with her pools of blue. The fire in your heart that had been quenched so long ago feels the spark of kindling again, in time you felt it could be the roaring fire it once was. The music slowly evolves to something a bit faster paced and those of the crowd begin to join in your dance, Obella is passed off to Dontos, who for once looks comfortable with a woman and you find yourself dancing with Lady Elsa Dayne, your wife’s mother. You can see where Obella gets her beauty from, the eyes in particular. She is graceful, even in her older age, and is speaks to you in parts, thanking you for bringing her family back together, even if for a moment.
The night continues on, feasting, drink, and dance. You indulge in a single glass of wine for the night, toasting with Quentyn for his speech to new brothers. Otherwise you enjoy the sober company of your wife, pausing only briefly to thank well wishers, and briefly chat with those that requested it. Nothing of too great import. Your high table to similar to the other night, though you find yourself attempting to ignore Lady Mellario of Norvos and Lady Lysa Tully moreso than before. You wished to push the thoughts to the back of your mind for the moment, a harder task sans wine. Well, the tl;dr version of the video is basically: Just roll the damn die, and don't be that guy who drags out every encounter because he has to look up every modifier, stat, penalty, etc. before he even rolls.
I get what he's saying, but this sort of thing hasn't happened much in the groups I've played in. People either just know all the modifiers and bonuses they have before they pick up the die because they've been playing for years or they roll the die right away and add the modifiers afterwards.
But yeah, if I was gaming with someone who played like this I would ask them to pick up the pace as well. Rolling attack and damage at the same time if a big help, for example.
