Samson, his family, and his friend's family have successfully fled to Noba. Marion's warrior spirit reignited by the sight of her son fighting, she has elected to see to it that his training in magic is increased in frequency during their stay in Alder. Lazare is too "fascinated" with this new way of living to object, and Samson himself doesn't feel like pissing her off after watching her badmouth the king of the land she's seeking refuge in to his face.

After a brief bandit-slaying interlude, overlapping with the meeting and saving of some Holmstead refugees, Sir Dyrus is even more motivated to repel the invading Gerxel. This king Augustus... Fighting by his side is truly invigorating.

Examining her Steel Bow idly, Rene sits on her father's flagship, passing the time with her sister as they prepare for the invasion themselves. The benefits of owning Holmstead for the Empire at large, working alongside her sister, father, and dear friend for its sake... Sure, the Wyrmite smugglers' success is concerning, but no one in her father's fleet rides a wyvern as it is anyway.

Samson might be preoccupied and out of the way for a little while, but the son and daughter of the resistance and empire will soon find themselves on the same battlefield.

"Guys" You say. "Guys please"

Ilica turns and licks your cheek, then panics as the cart hits a bump and swats your head.

"What do we do?" Emi asks. "Can we get all the way to Contique with her like this?"
"We can be there by nightfall if I push this thing" Derrick says. "Can you guys manage?"

You hold out a hand to stop her from hitting you, and it gets bitten.

"Ow" You say.
"Merrrrrrrrrr" Ilica replies, biting your hand again and holding onto it this time.

"Doesn't look like it" Emi says.
"Dang..." Derrick says. "If we stopped, we could load whichever box has the nip in it onto the roof. That might make things better"
"We'd have to air out the cart too, and the smell might attract some... unwanted guests" Emi says.

"Ilica stop eating my hand" You say.
Ilica grumbles and swats your face, without letting go of your hand...

She seems a little on edge. A part of you wants to try and calm her down, but a part of you also wants to fight fire with fire...

Weird thought: One of Kabuto's signature senjutsu moves is the White Rage Technique. It sends out constant pulses of chakra to blind and shock opponents, sort of a ninjutsu flashbang. In this continuity, he was probably inspired to make it by Kon's bloodline. It is more or less a bootleg version of what we can do with our Shattershots.

There doesn't seem to be the same stipulation as with the eagle totem, which means it should work. You do lose out on the other features of rage tho.

It was in Edge of the Empire. A player kept derailing the action so he could PvP. I have nothing against PvP when done right, but this event made no sense and was just to be a dick. We ended up losing a player permanently because of that session.

I sometimes wish Blizzard would remember that some of their mount species are sapient or near-sapient sometimes.

Just to see how they'd react to this insanity.

Yeah, wyvers, raptors, and gryphons are all at least semi-sapient. Most of the drakes are fully sapient, of course. Not sure about the rest.

I think sabers, horses, and worgs are fairly intelligent, but not as much as the above.

You are an orphan without a name, taken in by the Church of the Torch from childhood and raised by them. You were taught the teachings of the torch, as well as given an education of the highest quality. Today was supposed to mark the completion of your first 15 years of education alongside your fellow torchbearers. There was going to be a celebration and a ceremony, but the entire day is a blur. The last thing you remember is drinking out of a chalice alongside your peers, Father Pyrrhus telling you that this night, you will finally earn your names.

You begin to open your eyes as the shaking of a cart riles you awake, but your vision doesn’t return. Your hands are constrained behind your back by rope, there’s some kind of cloth wrapped around your eyes. You begin to shout but someone hits you in gut, winding you. A familiar voice whispers to you. “You are beyond the safety of the walls. We can only teach you so much from the inside. Return to the gates on the sunrise of the third day, do this and you will have earned your place in the order.”

You begin to panic as your bonds are cut and you are thrown from the carriage onto the ground below. The surface is damp and muddy. You want to scream but you’re afraid to attract any attention. You remove the cloth from your eyes and get a better view of your surroundings. You’re lying to the side of a deteriorating old road running through some woods. It’s the dead of the night, but the light of the moon is more than enough to get a good view of your surroundings. Fog makes it difficult to see where either end of the road leads but you can hear the sound of the cart heading in one direction. What should you do?

>Follow the sound of the cart

Kr'tok is resting in his hut after a long days work, when shout for him comes for some of the lower levels of the Tree Village
He comes down to the sight of a large gathering of people and Gup looking very angrily into the center. Pushing though, Kr'tok reaches the middle to the sight of a stark Blue scales.
The Blue Kolbold walk forward and says in a very weak voice, averting its gaze

I'm going on a family holiday soon, which will coincide with two meetups - sucks, but what can you do? To make up for that, I'm planning on taking a few light games to teach the pleb-tier in-laws - Gemblo, Love Letter, Wildlife Rescue, etc.

No comment. Neither artwork nor components matter that much as far as I am concerned.

> What are you playing / looking forward to playing soon?
The usual. Some power grid and chaos in the old world. I am looking forward to a game of arkham horror, which should be played this week, with some expansions I haven't tried. I don't particulary like the gameplay in arkham horror at all. It will be interesting to try it with something different than base game + dunwich though.

Conan: Monolith. I haven't really checked anything about it. I am curious though as to how it will turn out, considering that I enjoy Conan.

Depends on the person running the game.
In one game, our group as a whole opted to kill the mayor's daughter that we were sent to rescue (and blame the orcs that kidnapped her) despite my scout shooting her in the back with his shortbow...and us running her over...twice...with the wizard's carriage.

Beyond that...perhaps killing one or two PC's in 'accidents' would work to derail things as you learn more about the group.

First for Rebels S2 Finale tonight.

Wonder if this'll influence any future F&D stuff.
>>
So does anyone else think that lightsaber duels in the current system are kind of lame?

I have a player character who is a runaway inquisitor and will get her hands on a lightsaber at some point so I've been putting some thought into the Inquisitors that will catch up with her eventually, how to stat them so that they're threatening without being overpowering, and I keep coming back to the problem that melee combat is just too damn D&D for this setting.

I have a Lightsaber skill of GY and my opponent has a Lightsaber skill of YYYYY. Because of how melee combat works, we both take turns rolling against a dinky PP difficulty, which is unaffected by our respective sills and can only be increased by special talents (Which PCs don't get).

So I started thinking, why not have lightsaber combat be opposed rolls? Instead of GY vs PP and YYYYY vs PP it's GY vs RRRRR, then YYYYY vs PR. Combat becomes a constant exchange of blows in an extended and dramatic duel rather than "I hit you, you hit me, I miss you, you hit me" and then because Lightsabers ignore soak one person is dead in 2-3 rounds tops.

Of course this still runs into the problem of lightsabers being super lethal, unlike in the games this sort of back and forth melee combat is descended from--so I thought of a second rule. Success/Failure doesn't deal Wounds, but Strain--when you run out of Strain you're unable to continue the fight, and your opponent can disarm you, knock you unconscious, maim you, or kill you as is appropriate. You can still wound people by rolling Triumphs, which then inflict Wounds equal to the number of net Success in the roll on your opponent. Two Triumphs and you get to add the Lightsaber's damage rating as Wounds. Of course if you roll Despair the opposite happens and your opponent deals Wounds to you the same way.

Haven't stress tested this other than rolling dice on my phone yet but I'm looking forward to seeing how it holds up in the wild.

Thoughts?

Just going to quietly repost this question:

just want this cleared up for me once and for all:

so on Pg 400 of F&D the rule with minion groups reads:

"-the minion group has a single would threshold, shared by all members of the group. This wound threshold is is equal to the sum of the wound thresholds of every member of the group... Each time any member of the group suffers wounds, the wounds are applied to the group's wound threshold. Individual members of the group are defeated one at a time, each time the total wounds suffered exceeds that group member's share of the wound threshold..."

When I first read this in the AoR corebook (which as far as I can tell the verbiage is identical in both) I interpreted this as meaning "after subtracting for soak you deal damage and for every multiple of X, where X is the total soak of each individual member, that many members of the group die off" I.E. if you got a squad of 4 storm troopers takes 15 damage, 2 will drop dead from the attack. (15, -5 for soak, leaves 10 damage left).

However, when I started running the game, a player, who claimed to have more experiance with the system said "no, that's not how it works".

According to him the group takes damage until it matches the soak of one individual in the group and then that member drops dead and no more damage is applied to the group, so according to this it doesn't matter how much damage you do to a minion group because the most you will ever drop in a single attack is 1.

So, SWG, which interpretation is correct?

I actually really need to know this because I'm going to start up a new campaign soon and want to run it correctly.

Aashenpreet watches you from the bed as you gather up a length of her shed skin and crush it into the Soulshape cauldron. You also pull together some of your old clothes that got ruined by her blood and after a moment’s deliberation, a few Quedeshi shrikes. The brown coins sink into the concoction with a slight hiss. The reaction is already taking place.

You aren't going to mess this one up either. You need to show Aashenpreet your dedication and give her some proof that you can still be trusted. And so you slave away for over two hours with your focus shrunk to just the cauldron in front of you and even as your arms begin to shake, you refuse to let yourself break or relent.

The Soulshape is beginning to coalesce, a small form coiling within the cauldron as the brew congeals to something more solid. A perfect body for the result of your companion brew.

Have you added any physical potions to the Soulshape to influence the physique of the resulting homunculus?

Elaborating on ideas created in this thread:
>>46347398

This is a magical world that might be worked into a splat or a Quest. In this world there are Flyers. And there are Groundlings.

There are Castles made of semi-solid clouds and jangling, choking, primitive flying machines. There are subterranean monks and duelists that fight on starlit nights miles above the Earth. There are monsters made of thunderstorms that eat clouds heavy with the light of past sunsets.

There is danger and beauty and adventure here in this world.

First order of business is that we really, really need something not called Sky Knights.

It just doesn't...inspire.

>>46352812
I don't like the idea of there being floating "lands" in the sky. If we do that the environment of the sky itself will suffer. Slow moving flying machines and stuff made of "hard" clouds will help show the immensity of the blue and white void that is the sky. Floating continents will not.

What do you think? Should we have landmasses in the sky? I think the idea of "cloud gardens" will be more than enough. They're unique enough visually with their focus on visible roots and their smallness and location -inside- clouds won't detract from the immediate power of the setting.

>Are Groundlings Human?

Yes, and can breed with Flyers. How else are we supposed to get a Flyer/Groundling romance?

>Feudal society?

I'm tempted to make something weird and strange, but this setting revolves on the power difference between Flyers and Groundlings. A simple feudal relationship works. The Flyers are gentry, they just control the Sky AND the land.
>>
So wait, does this include the other places in the world or just these psuedo-European sky knights?

You see, a kitsune by virtue of not being a human, is inherently lower than the lowest human on the cosmic chain. Only enlightened and celestial beings are technically higher. So remember that, for humans have a good reason to be superior than 99% of races in most settings.
