With gnolls, harpies, and insect races being a favorite among civ quest voting, it made me wonder:
What other animals could be made into a race without being furry bullshit, and bring something more to the table without being another "folk"?

Would be interesting to make a less human giant race. Raptor people work too, but they might end up being too much like gnolls or lizardmen. Maybe they could be really intelligent, cooperative, but also tribal and fractious.

Naked mole-rats.
They look bisarre, their nakedness would give them a good reason to actually wear clothes. Due to their eusocial nature their societies would evolve some cool caste-states which would be biologically enforced.
Their nature would mean that they would live in exotic underground cities in dangerous and probably sparsely populated regions.
Oh, and they lack pain sensivity in their skin, which for fantasy reasons could be extended to a general lack of pain which would make them dangerous...

Before anyone asks, I am continuing the work of Acerbus’ impromptu thread, I’ve been given a green flag to write in his stead. I hope everyone enjoys their time spent here and my efforts to continue this, as I enjoyed the context and threads enough to want to continue them myself. I promise to try my best to make this as entertaining as possible.

Your name, is Isabella Voltaire. Your valiant efforts to distract the dragon while the princess fetched a stone from your draconic opponent’s treasure hoard proved successful. You actually managed to severely injure the dragon and to leave almost unscathed with your kingdom’s princess and the stone, if not for your pained ankle that you deem is in a less than optimal state. You do not know what exactly it was that left you like that, for when you try to remember it you tense in fear and your agony worsens.
Your arm around the princess you were tasked to rescue, you limp towards the nearest inn you could find with her aid. Well, in what counts, you succeeded, even though most of the work was not your part, but rather a joint effort of you, the elf, and the princess all together. You remember seeing the elf with a couple of injuries, but to his fortune nothing that could really leave him permanently unable to fight, which you fear is your case.
Both of you get into the inn. It is rather rustic and humble, having and it looked like the kind of place that would invite travellers, but to your luck, it seems relatively empty, and the man at the counter is old, polite and smart enough to recognize the look of emergency in the princess, and lets you in without saying much of a word, merely observing the situation. After setting down on a table, Jeanne carefully removes your greave to take a look at it.

Warlock or bard, they are really flexible.
Post the most useful magic item you ever gotten and the most creative way you've used it
Troll gut rope. Was a 30ft loop of rope that could extend up to 500ft/day , could be cut (whereupon one end of it turned into normal rope - determined by player). Could also retract at a slow rate, preserving total daily use.
Combined with use rope and inventive use of animate rope, it got a lot of use.

We got a thing that floated at about 100 feet above the ground. No amount of weight could make it move down, and it would drift with the wind.
It was a dumb magical object but we built a framework around it, a platform with sails to catch the wind and anchors to stop it from moving when we wanted to stick around. Ropes could get you down fast, but we also had a big fucking basket to haul things up and down.
It stayed a pretty normal dungeon crawling game with some crazy rogue trader element where...

Fellow player in Scion had a mask that always had another mask underneath it so that his face was never revealed unless he spent a point of willpower. We made a fort out of them to lure a bird out of hiding.
