Anyone have any good DM stories from nWoD or cWoD
>>46352562
Well, the Srizaku make slightly more sense now.
>>46352792
How does Beneath the Skin work out? After all skinchanger are 1E while Demon is 2E.
Also whats the Age for it?
>>46352870
I imagine the Ivory Claws probably have Father Wolf's Omphalos Stone in one of their many laboratories. Or at least part of it.
>>46352914
I doubt the Ivory Claw had Father Wolfs Heart. Mostly because they did not take part of killing Father Wolf.
>The Sundered World's Chapter Fiction involves a Mage requiring the help of an entire Pack of Werewolves to take down one of the Pangaeans, just to get its Heart.
Worth noting that werewolves' natural weapons always count as a Bane for Pangaeans, which is why they're such good allies for the hunt.
>>46353033
What I thought their natural weapons was the Bane of Father Wolf. Are all Pangaean week to the hunters teeth?
>>46352912
They rework Skinchanging into a single Merit for 2e which they include in the section, though it's a lot more broad than original 1e. Like some of the examples of things you can change into include ghosts, rage spirits, etc.
>>46352912
Aztecs
>>46353085
All Pangaeans count Werewolf natural weapons as a Bane, inlcuding Father Wolf.
So about that Electricity-Claimed Nossie Bloodline, I've had some ideas for the discipline name and a game-play version of their weakness.
The Bloodline-specific Discipline they have is called Volta and they also have Nightmare and Obfuscate, but they've dropped Vigor for Celerity. With Volta, you can use it to manipulate electricity in living and nonliving things (Redirect it, overload it, short it out, etc cetera) and when you reach 5 dots of Volta you can generate electricity within yourself and hurl it at people.
Now their take on the Nosferatu curse is actually tied to their use of Volta; the more dots they have the more blackened and charred their bodies will appear, and the more electricity will arc across their injuries. The second thing that Volta is tied to is this: Whenever one of the members of this bloodline uses a power from Volta they must roll against their BP+their dots in the Discipline, if they fail they suffer a breaking point away from Humanity (This may include picking up a Derangement but I'm not sure about that yet, though I do know that frying your brain with electricity be bad, yo).
Also, while their origins mean they can draw from Locii to restore their Vitae, this also means that they can ONLY feed upon things with an Essence score.
Did I do good or did I do bad? keep in mind I have no clue what sort of name this Bloodline should have, but I do think that a popular nickname would be Sparkplugs or Circuit-Breakers.
>>46353085
Yup, all Pangaeans.
On a side-note, I'm surprised there haven't been any comments on the nature of the First Pack.
>>46353168
I'm guessing they're the wolf hosts from night horrors.
>>46353179
>>46353168
These guys. Adarusharu, the Hungry Teeth.
>>46353168
What about the First Pack!?!
I don't have the book yet so I'm in the Dark intill people tell me things.
So please tell me about the First Pack, they are first born, right? Right?
>>46353221
>So please tell me about the First Pack, they are first born, right? Right?
The First Pack was the first pack of werewolves. The Firstborn are Father Wolf's children with other gods. People always get them mixed up.
In the Neolithic, the First Pack is still around, but they're dangerous assholes.
>>46353272
>The First Pack was the first pack of werewolves.
well
they're thought to be werewolves
Yeah, later eras' tales of the First Pack don't quite match up with the monstrosities of the past.
>werewolf history is like porn
>urfarah comes along, starts whackin it, babies pop up everywhere, then a constant flow of women spirits walk in on him and are like "oh my I had no idea you were here...what big teeth you have...what a big dong you have" and get nailed by a pangaean and have some firstborn or an uratha or something
>>46353504
One thing's for sure...Father Wolf was a dog.
Are there any mage archmasters besides the Oracles during The Sundered World era?
If so, what might they be up to?
>>46353676

>>46353676
The Oracles don't even exist in the Sundered World

Is that explicitly stated?
It also doesn't address the archmaster issue during the period.

>>46353148
Do they something similar to this for werewolf/geist Viking era?
>>46353957
It was all posted last thread or on the blog; an Egyptian great cult, a description of thr Astral Realms at the time, a new Legacy called the Nagaraja (posted last thread), and a Proximi Dynasty called the Myrmidons (last thread).
Stop asking for To The Strongest; it's literally all already been spoiled.

Path Tools: Sky-Wise tools resonate with the Path when
crafted from feathers, the bones of birds, thorns, woven flax,

Path Tools: Forest-Wise tools resonate with the Path when
crafted from scorched stone, wood, wolf-bone, and leather.
Path Tools: Water-Wise tools resonate with the Path when
crafted from copper or clay, from driftwood, or from stones
from the riverbed.
Path Tools: Storm-Wise tools resonate with the Path when
crafted from charred wood or bone, or obsidian.
Path Tools: Blood-Wise tools resonate with the Path when
crafted from any sort of bone or wood, or if the Wise one’s
own blood is a major component in the crafting.

They are also natural creatures of the world. So probably just like werewolves can exist in the Anima Mundi with no problems.
>>46354584
>He asked for more material on the Deceived and Shuankhsen of the Era
Well dang, that would have been great. I wonder if not doing that was CAS's call (to preserve Mummy's "secrets", he seems like that type) or the chapter writer's call (random encounter tables are like the comfort food of the tabletop gamer).
Highlights of the Skinchangers/Demon chapter:
>A handful of samurai somehow wound up in the Aztec Empire.
>One Arisen meret used Infrastructure to teleport here from the Murapa Empire.
>Dinosaurs.
So, Beast is out.
Anyone wanna link it?
>>46354770
No thanks.
>>46354584
Mummy is so clearly the Orpheus of CofD that it's not even funny; a rump gameline loved by a small cadre of vocal idiots who've never actually played it.
>>46354770
>>46354818
I, for one, am curious if the final PDF includes any substantial changes from the backer draft that might have improved the book, even if only a little bit.
Were there any Vampire-specific eras in Dark Eras?
>>46354628
But they don't exist in the Twilight, which is weird.
>>46354847
I've been running Mummy for years. It's fun, pulpy horror with a system that's a bit janky. You're kind of right in that it does have a campaign it'd really, really like you to play, like Orpheus did. There's certainly some of that in its DNA.
>>46354718
>>Dinosaurs.
Of course there were dinosaurs, everything is better with dinosaurs.
>>46354938
Elizabethan London, which they later also added Changeling to. The Companion will also have a crissover with Promethean set during the
Black Plague.
>>46354847
I'll take fans that have never played it over critics that have never read it. Almost every criticism I've seen of Mummy stems from a fundamental misreading of the book.
>>46354911
Why not just admit that concept was too abstract from the beginning and never coalesced into a game that was a.) interesting or b.) suitable for crossver.
About the only worthwhile thing I've taken away from Beast was the mechanics of Advanced and Epic Merits.
>>46354938
I can't blame them for not putting in too much considering VtR already had the best alternate time period books already out for it, especially Requiem for Rome.
>>46355032
I, too, have certainly have offered ample criticisms of Beast for a variety of reasons. However, I would still prefer to judge the final product rather than the various drafts.
>>46355020
> Almost every criticism I've seen of Chronicles of Darkness games stems from a fundamental misreading of the books.

>>46355020
>The Companion will also have a crossover with Promethean set during the Black Plague.
Why do I get the feeling that the Phages would have had a field day back then.
>>46355020
>Elizabethan London
So, how's the chapter?
Any new and interesting insights into vampires?
>>46355032
Lairs are still cool. I like that you're encouraged to create a visual representation of your combined Lairs, essentially creating a superdungeon.
>>46355085
Why? Do you actually believe there will be any substantive changes considering how hostile Matt was to his critics in the beginning? How tone deaf he was to their criticisms? Or even how the playtesters were utterly ignored when they brought legitimate gripes about the utterly broken game mechanics?
Garbage in, garbage out. My only comfort is that beyond the Heroes book and the Anthology we'll likely never hear from this failed gameline ever again. It'll die the quiet, ignoble death that it should have suffered at conception.
>>46355108
>So, how's the chapter?
Psst.
Hey. Hey kid.
You didn't get this from me. What you want is in here.

I can only imagine the reaction to an alternate CofD setting that focused on dinosaurs, gay werewolves and mages. /wodg/ would explode.
>>46355186
There actually were substantive changes. Ironically, they made the people who liked Beast originally hate it, and the critics just refuse to read it.

I pitched an April Fools book that would be just dinosaurs. Children's book-style, but with statblocks and art and all that stuff. Plus supernatural dinosaurs. Strix Pteranodon, Vampire T-Rex, like that.
Didn't take.
>>46355186
DaveB mentioned that he wrote one of the stories in the Beast Anthology that's includes a Beast, Mastigos and Bastet(!) roaming around together the Temenos.
Do you think Dave might actually make Beasts interesting, if only for a very short while?
>>46355262
Oh look, it's the idiot who ignores the Unique IP's, everyone laugh at him.
>>46355259
A Beast's primary drives are intensely sociopathic even though the writing tries to cast them as victims avenging themselves on their oppressors. Outside the sheltered bubble of the writers own sick murder fantasies though it comes across to nearly ever mentally stable reader as the meandering manifesto of a school shooter.
>>46355287
But what if the Gangrel Progenitor was a dinosaur.
>>46355186

>>46355307
I mean, if anything Beast could make some really interesting fiction. Things like Lairs and whatnot make for some amazing narrative devices, but as a roleplaying game and especially as something shoehorned as a special snowflake character into sessions of another gameline those same strengths become crippling weaknesses.
Would any ST here honestly allow a player to bring a Beast character into their Vampire or Mage game?
>>46355287
Oh yeah, this year's April Fools book should be out this Friday, if the Paradox purchase didn't put the kibosh on that.

>>46355362
>ask for spoilers from something other than Mage for the love of God

For me it depends, if I really like something I'll usually buy it. The things I don't I usually don't end up using anyway, so it's not really a 'lost sale' for the company seeing as I'd never buy it anyway.
>>46357842
Since most of the general content is already available from the Kickstarter draft and recent spoilers, how about some screenshots of the major art pieces, particularly for Sundered World and To The Strongest.
>>46357929
This. "Try before you buy" and all that.
>>46357941
Again; while most of To The Strongest and The Sundered World has been spoiled, nobody's asked for anything from the Aztec chapter, Viking Werewolf, or pretty much everything that isn't Mage.
>>46357941
I'm reading the Ruins part currently.
>>46358329
Beneath The Skin is surprisingly cool.
>>46355203
You're my hero.
So 4chin/wodg/, whats the final say on the japan setting? Is it racist and offensive as fuck like almost everything else set in the land of the sunrise?
Also this is more genreal, how fucking offensive is this book,senpai-a-lam?
>>46358497
>>46358585
Well, the art is very Exalted-feeling, which isn't great, but the chapter itself is fine. Japanese people doing Japanese things to fight Japanese monsters with nary a ninja or kung fu master in sight. I think it's a little bland, but certainly not offensive.
The only complaints so far have been a minor thing about a Condition in thr Viking chapter reflecting grave insult, with one of the example sources being an accusation of "passive homosexuality." Rather than understand that many cultures had a taboo on being the one getting fucked in a homosexual thing, some people have been complaining about mechanics for calling someone a faggot.
>>46358669
Who the fuck cares about being called a faggot?
>>46358585
It's not, and it's not? The worst you can say about this book is that some of the chapters are more summarized history than CofD. It's a solid book all around.
>>46358695
Historically? Vikings, but only if you receive instead of give. You can be gay all you like, but you better make sure you only sword fight or you have to fight someone to the death.
>>46358695
The Romans were similar; you can fuck boys all you want, but it was shameful to give a blowjob. The only sex act they saw as more degrading was oral sex on a woman.
>Reading through Dark Eras
>Neolithic story seeds
>War breaks out. It’s unthinkable, but two villages declare that they can no longer tolerate the other. The cause is a petty slight; each side is absolutely determined to annihilate the other. They take up arms and begin to fight. Spirits of a kind never before seen are appearing, stoking the flames of violence.
>[...]
>A terrifying source of power lies at the far end of the threads of destiny and sympathy tying it to the divine weapon. Somewhere, a raw symbol of violence and destruction has thrust the manifestation of itself into the Fallen World. As reality bleeds from the damage, those in the crater hear names in High Speech whispered by the strange-tasting air; the Warlord; the Destroyer; the General.
...Does this confirm that the Seers are right, and that War is imposed by on the Fallen by the Supernal?
>>46358725
Well no I get that, I mean for the people playing and not their charecters? So what you got called a fag, act out the dick sizing contest an be on with it. I'm more saying, who the hell cares about there being a mechanic for being called a faggot beyond, "Why did this get word count spent on it."
>>46358695
Men should fuck and kill things; getting fucked is girly and cowardly, much like sorcery.
The Vikings had odd morals.
I'm making an Angel that, if all goes well, will attack one of my players next session. I need a Bane for it.It's focused on long-range assassination, and has a Ban that prohibits it from allowing itself to be seen by its target. Also has Influence(Electricity), and is Rank 2. I'm currently thinking something along the lines of a grounding rod, but that seems more like a Rank 1 Bane. It's mission is specifically to kill one of the player's Cover, because he's got the Hunted condition.

As a half-a-fag, thats why I'm curious about who would care about being called a fag. Like seriously it's just a dumb word now.
>>46358811
>>46358851
Yeah, it got brought up last thread that he made fun of Loki for turning himself into a woman so he could fuck with someone, or something like that, but Loki was just like 'dad you literally practice girl magic' so he shut the fuck up.
After a few months of playing our Vampire chronicle, I've started listening to more of the darker music I preferred when I was younger.
Is something wrong with me, or is this normal?
>>46358873
Didn't Loki also have a horses kid or some shit?
>>46358901
>Is something wrong with me, or is this normal?
Yes.
My favorite bit of the entire book; Arisen using Infrastructure to cross continents.
>>46358910
Yes, and Loki WON that argument.
Practicing magic is literally girlier than being an actual woman and taking care of a kid, in the Norse eye.
>>46358910

>>46358889
Loki making fun of Odin was a counter argument, not an instigation.
>>46358941
Well that explains why Khrone hates sorcerers so much :V

And now I'm sad we don't have Mayan Mummy. Maybe for Dark Eras 2?

>>46358910
He had kids twice. Once as a horse, and once in the shape of a mortal woman. And as>>46358941 said. Loki won that argument. (At least until he insulted Thor. Thor didn't throw arguments back, he went for Mjölner.)

Fate is so powerful, it literally clawed its way back into being a part of the game after being cast away in early play-testing.
Hey /wodg/.
Tonight's random taste experiment is kabanos dipped in sriracha. Hopefully this will inspire me with some good ideas for writing up the stats for Fox.
>>46359683

What's the best Path for a Wise who dreams of building the first city?
>>46359542
Well there's Fate, and then there's Fate Fate.
...so does anyone here need players for a Dark Eras game? I'm down to play damn near all of them.
>>46359760
All the Paths are fine. The Paths will, however, generally color the mage's perception of the nature and purpose of the city and their role within it.
>>46359683
Is it feasible that, through Omphalos Stone fuckery or otherwise, a Pangaean could exist in the modern world?
I've got the idea in my head now for either Beshilu or something/one else weakening the Gauntlet to the point that one of those shadows you see out of the corner of your eye when you cross it escapes, and the Pack having to deal with it.
>>46359725
Urfarah only really goes for eldritch horrors, I'm afraid.
>>46359760
Tricky one. Depends what you think is most important for getting said city built. I'd suggest Mastigos for the mental capacity needed to plan and organise the logistics needed for such a massive endeavour, plus very helpful with actually getting people to go along with it.
>>46359683
>random taste experiment is kabanos dipped in sriracha
Chris, isn't it a little too close to bedtime in the UK to be trying such questionable culinary experiments?
Also, didn't Mages already kill Fox and rip out his heart?
>>46359841
>Is it feasible that, through Omphalos Stone fuckery or otherwise, a Pangaean could exist in the modern world?
Yes.

>Chris, isn't it a little too close to bedtime in the UK to be trying such questionable culinary experiments?
I live life on the edge, man.
>Also, didn't Mages already kill Fox and rip out his heart?
Yes. Someone asked for Fox as a sample Pangaean write-up on the OP forums, though, so I figure I'll put her stats together to give an idea of what those Wise were up against when they tore her carcass open and stole her heart.
>>46359841
Just think what an Archmaster of Time, Spirit and Life could do with an Omphalos Stone.
>>46355368
Yeah, I got no problem with it. They work fine as supplementals and specifically Vampire and Mage they can adapt to quite easily.
I wouldn't bring them into Werewolf or Changeling, though. Geist yes. Demon yes actually even though TEH ANIMOSITY.
>>46359937
While you're tinkering with Fox, throw in some story seeds or future fates about where her carcass and Omphalos Stone(s) might be located in modern times for those industrious, brave and foolish mages who might wish to resurrect her,
>>46360024
>Demon yes actually even though TEH ANIMOSITY.

>>46360094
>Chris, is there any way you could do one of the Legacies you mentioned in the chapter?
Dave already has four sample Legacies in the pipeline for after Mage 2e hits; if I do write one of the Neolithic ones up, it'll be after Dave has done those four, and I can't guarantee if or when.
>>46360115
>Ghost Wolf Lodge trying to build a new Tribe around Eater of Names, with the Awakened as their sacred prey; hot or not?
Works for me. Mind you, there are Lodges mentioned in the pack that already harry at the heels of certain brands of prey that some Awakened will find themselves in, like the Tindalosi who prey on people fucking with time.
>>46360145
The moon is one of those eldritch horrors.
>>46360184
Some elements of the Spirit Arcanum work differently, on account of there being no Gauntlet and the existence of the Border Marches.
>>46360184
>>46360345
Oh, right. You can't instantly enter the Shadow, anymore; you have to cross into the Border Marches, first, and then enter the Shadow, or vice-versa.
>>46360073
I feel like to the degree Beasts want to do anything except murder Redpillers/rape Tumblrinas, they want to expand their Lairs, and hanging out with Demons is a great way both to find creepy, weird places (Infrastructure) and get some much-needed fire support (as well as provide it) for the mutually agreeable task of breaking the God-Machine's grip on them. Plus extradimensional getaways are super-useful; I'm not clear on whether Angels can break into a Lair EVER but it certainly doesn't seem to be a default capacity.

I'm starting to suspect that Scavenger Wolf from Skinchangers was a Pangaean who got caught flesh side when the Gauntlet went up. Raven, the grandfather of the Thar Akuru, was almost certainly a Pangaean in my eyes, maybe Inari too.
So do we have any idea what the fuck goblin vows do in 2e? Or does everyone in a court get to make one-sided pledges with their court emotion/concept? Also shout-out to pledges with mortals being garbage now.
Hi guys, I just finished Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines and thought it was fantastic and want to start getting into the actual system/books.
What edition do you guys think is most worthwhile?
>>46366272
If you want to get into the exact same setting that you played in Bloodlines, grab the 20th Anniversary of VtM book, and other 20th Anniversary books that interest you.
Alternatively there's the 2e of nWoD, Chronicles of Darkness, which is a different kind of game, less about its overarching setting and more about the individual PCs. The vampire book for that one is Vampire: the Requiem.
Ultimately it's up to you to decide which one you like more; both PDFs are in OP if I'm not mistaken, so it doesn't cost you anything but time.
>>46366312

Men were the ones doing all the documentation, and they didn't care or think about what women did. One of those three sources anon mentions? Is the Romans thinking that Tribades (the term that encompasses both lesbians and women who were sexually dominant) literally had clit penises to fuck each other or their husbands with. It was literally unfathomable to them that someone could have sex--or more, be the initiating/dominant/'top' partner--without a penis.
>>46359503
It's a mobile gambling game.
I'm not actually being sarcastic.
>>46367126
So much virtual ink has been spilled on Beast complaints that little would be gained from rehashing all the arguments.
My personal primary gripe is that the setting and character motivations are empty and bland. Without social structures, and with a over-reliance on crossover, there's just not much for Beast to do or grant them directed motivation. Even the vague "teach people lessons" shtick was only added after numerous, and often heated, complaints about the Kickstarter draft.
However, if you like Beast, I'm certainly not trying to spoil your fun. Beast fans may be a small group, but I guess there's something for everyone. Nevertheless, /wodg/ has generally proven hostile to Beast, and it will take a lot for that to change.
>>46367126
It should've been called Snowflake: The Mary Sues is what's wrong with it.
Literally, they serve no purpose and have no direction beyond being hideously overpowered crossover donut steels. Take a gander at the book yourself.

>>46367225
what would had made it better.
> your a human
>your dreaming one day and have nightmare of a beast(your pick) eating your soul.
>you somehow win the inner fight by trapping the beast making it your replacement soul so you don't go all vegetable like
>you must undo curse before death for fear of non existence
>world opens up and you see monsters vamps wolf ect ect
>feel monster soul feeling kinship with monster and so do you but its more like a Strix and relationship with a vampire for both you and monster.
> need to feed to hold back beast and when you don't feed heroes are made
>heroes where once good and righteous but over times heroes picked are now sick people who are fucking crazy and think they are always right.
(this hero thing can be changed to be some other then them as sick people like maybe they are the exact opposite of you. your good its crazy evil, your evil its good but fucked up, your a 48 year old virgin who can't get laid for shit and now you got a 28 hot as fuck nympho bitch going after you to fuck your shit up)
2 more things dreaming brings you back to the beast realm where they know your not its kin but treat you like one in a cold elder kind of way. the last thing is that your must follow a rule the beast imprinted on your soul that you must follow in order to let it go back to sleep like for example you see a guy litter and the nature beast says litter litter cut his fucking hands off and you must roll for a dominance/ composure check to hold it back.
what do you think and sorry for spelling mistakes its 3:00 at night so i need to write this fast so i can sleep and wake up for college class at 7 later.

This is the entire entry in Dark Eras,
"The Hollow Keepers: This Legacy seals part of their souls away in clay urns that they bury and hide. Thus protected, they truck with spirits and the dead, their souls safe from harm. The Hollow Keepers undertake the most dangerous of ventures into the other realms to deal with their inhabitants. Of course, as the tales go, get hold of a Hollow Keeper’s soul-urn and you become her master."
Beast backers have received the fiction anthology.

A few threads ago, DaveB was excited about the new Mage header fonts revealed in Dark Eras, and inquired as to our opinion.
The font is definitely *much* better than 1e. As long as the headers in the new book are not the hard to read goldish color and the pages don't have odd background bits obscuring the text, the old 1e readability problems seem to be solved.
>>46367727
Thanks, Anon!
The bit I thought everyone would quote out of context is when the mage rips into the Beast, telling her that she's a Goetia with delusions of grandeur. He's never *wrong*, but he's an *asshole*.
Mostly, the story came from wanting to clearly show how Beast and Mage's cosmologies interact (the finale comes when they trick the antagonist into the Anima Mundi, where the ecstatic wind gets him!), pair a "feeds by humbling the arrogant" Beast up with a mid-Wisdom Mastigos Silver Ladder for the lulz, and rehabilitate Changing Breeds a bit.

Could have achieved the same result with "bro", which would have been an accurate summation of Loki and Odin's relationship as blood-brothers, rather than betraying your ignorance of anything but Marvel's theme park version of Norse Mythology. >>46361032

>>46363716
Indeed. It's actual Arcana use.
>>46367441
The Vinca have a big thing about sacred pottery and ceramics, since writing is also sacred and that's one of the ways they can give language permanence and power in the world - by marking it into pottery.
The Hollow Keepers basically bottle portions of their souls and hide them, Koschei-style, so that spirits, shades or other horrors can't just steal their souls when they meet them. Basically intermediaries to otherworldly entities using an additional layer of protection. The Hollow Keepers are the ones who go furthest and push the boundaries the most in exploration of other realms and mysteries, because they know their souls are (relatively) safe.
Some of them are stately diplomats with deep wisdom and negotiaton skills; others are the Neolithic equivalent of Steve Irwin, poking eldritch horrors because they hubristically have a sense of invincibility.
A further thought on the differences between Arcana use of Awakened and Pangaeans.
Note that this is very much just my thoughts, not official, and DaveB may of course countermand or otherwise state it as incorrect.
To use Matrix-esque metaphors, Awakened are like hackers, breaking through the Lie to access the Supernal.
Pangaeans have simply been given user access as a side-perk of their jobs.

They are the notes and illustrations regarding a Dark Ages game I was in and should prove to be an interesting read.
So I've been thinking.

So can some of the Changing Breeds.
What does this mean?
Could losing your virginity be a sacrament or quintessence?

They're naturally closer to the supernal than things like humans.
Hey if Mage 2e gets released will it be a monday announcement or can it come out any day?
>>46370685
Only the former. Virginities are too common for quintessences.

We'll most likely get a fore-warning on a Monday.

New releases come out Wednesdays. they'd probably let you know in advance on monday announcement though

A fun fact of Neolithic societies is that anyone who survives into their 50s or 60s is a genuinely impressive motherfucker whom everyone looks at as being either venerable or simply a lucky bastard.
Child mortality would've been fierce, even without diseases like smallpox to murder your adorable face, and learning how to deal with wolves is really a pass-fail sort of exam.
If you survive 50 years of freezing winters, wild animals, waves of disease, and seeing all your friends and family succumb, you are one hard bastard. If you survive all that PLUS spirits and werewolves and ghosts, well...

It's a bit more complicated like that.
People generally lived up into the 50's and 60's...
Provided they survived the childhood.
