We live in a culture that tries to tell us that if you're not happy all the time, that's something you need to fix. It isn't.
Sure, depression is definitely a problem, but that's not the same as feeling 90% negative emotions. Depression is this soul-crushing, spark-quenching, horrendous feeling of numbness and fog that makes everything look, smell, sound, taste, and feel grey and dull. It's what gives rise to self-harm just to feel anything, and that alone stands as proof that feeling nothing is worse than feeling hurt. There's some spark more vital and intrinsic to the human soul than happiness is, it can keep you going even when all you feel is sadness and hurt, and when you lose it and find it again, sadness and hurt become something to cherish because you can feel them again.
A life that's mostly pain and sorrow is still worthwhile and beautiful. a 90/10 negative-positive ratio of emotions is still a kind of balance. People create sad music, tragedy, rage porn, horror stories, etc. for a reason.
