2007-2008 really did see a lot of changes. before that it was alright, at least most of my childhood was spent in the better part of the decade (i'm 20 now)
I think 2008 is when Zeitgeist shifted. From 2009 and on, each year almost blends into the last whereas before that, each year can be more clearly distinguished. 2010 for me is the year that the internet so ubiquitous among normalfags with the rise of social media really accelerating that year. There is a big correlation with the switch from computer/laptops to smartphones/tablets that started around then. I think this is what shaped the internet as we know it today: most of the content centralized onto a few large websites in which people predominately interact with IRL friends as opposed to strangers on internet forums. People constantly connected to the internet through computers in their pockets. The social media bubble is the new dot com bubble. Basically, 2010 is the year that the internet lost it's uniqueness.
To address your first point, I would argue it's 2008 when the shift from the 00's mindset to the modern, sterile one occurred. I do still think that the 2000's as separate from the 90's though I would say that these decades have more in common than the 2000's and the 2010's.
The new millenium idea was pretty magical in a way, probably helped with the collective mindset

Was at the top of my university promotion (always had the best grades), very social,bright,outgoing,funny guy,life had never felt better and my future was looking great as fuck. I was sure to get into pharmacy or medecine, the only 2 things i care about
My medical condition got worse, had to use different medication that really fucked me up,and induced an addiction, became an hermit,missed classes,failed classes,lost gf,lost friends,family barely supports me,lost my identity,i'm just a shell of my former self now. I became fucking pathetic and weak,i disgust myself now, med and pharm are impossible now, people who used to respect me now ignore me like i'm some kind of worthless scum
I know i'll never get back a future as promising as the one i had, i know i'll never get back to my former self. This kills me. My life will never be as bright as it was supposed to be if it wasn't for all that bullshit. I lost everything i had going for myself. Call me dumb but i don't see the point in living a shitty life and settling for less.
