hello /ic/ this is my first time on this board so please go easy on the bully.

I'm posting a few of my practices here for advice. So due to shitty change of major in uni, I didn't have enough time to spend on drawing. I was kinda of in a situation where I had to force myself to cut down time on hobby for the sake of maintaining my grade. Sadly between drawing and language study, I dropped drawing because I didn't see myself improving, or it would benefit me on the long run. Now that i realized how shitty my reason was to choose that major, I changed to a new major which gave me back a slightly sufficient amount of time for drawing. Today I accidentally looked back into my sketch books and I feel incredibly dumb for not dedicating enough time to my hobby in those wasted time.

you can skip the anecdote, but now I what I'm look for is how can improve on my shading technique and coloring? up to this point all I've been doing was mostly sketching. I have a rough knowledge on coloring, but blending colors and separating between shades and tints etc are zero.

I think I'm very good at using reference, but when it comes to drawing from imagination I just don't know any proper techniques that can allow me to bring that mental image into paper.

Just to REMIND you that, I have never taken any drawing class before in my life. My uni's art department is bat shit. All of these sketches are the result of what I have learned through reading books and youtube videos. Without a proper class, I don't think I can achieve any "wow" worthy art, but that's not my point anyway, since I just like drawing and I wish to nourish it.

It'd be cool for a drug trip scene or something. Other than that it's pretty useless.

He did what he wanted to do, but his success was largely owed to warhol
>>
He appealed to a crowd of people who like to be asked why they like his work.
>>
>>2517174
Ya warhol had a lot to do with his success. I personally really like his art because its fun but also has a message. His style is almost impossible to imitate as many artist have tried and failed miserably as I'm sure you've seen. If you think he's shit you have to sort of look at the context of the time. Theres always going to be movements that are anti traditional art and anti establishment, the key is doing it correctly and many artist can't do that like he did.

I think this would benefit from more contrast in your values. Your environment is looking a bit boring not because it's missing stuff to look at, but because it's mostly midtones. I made this to show what I mean. I'm sure it'd look even better with actual attention, not just some quick Photoshop fiddling.

It's helpful to check things in greyscale occasionally to make sure your contrast looks good. It's a lot easier to lose track of it when you're using color.

>that + contrast
Holy shit, it's like two different pictures.

Not the OP, it's just interesting to see the transition.

Hey guys OP from thread >>2482787 here.
We kicked it off with the skype group but decided it'd be fun to add some more people. Been going well for a few weeks now, we have established assignments and all among occasionally trying other group activites related to drawing. If you're looking for people to discuss art with in a friendly environment or somewhere to post your work and get feedback you're welcome to join us.

If you'd like to be added post a sample of your work in this thread along with your skype username. Only real requirement is being active and not just lurking.

If the only requirement i being active, why do we have to post art?
By "friendly environment" do you mean overly sensitive defensive weebs who don't accept crits?

Write me a fancy limerick
About my smokin’ pot
A life of pain and poverty
And never I’ve forgot

For each day it brings us
One close to our demise
So while we grin and bear it
We wipe tears from our eyes

But when we breathe that acrid fog
The horizon’s not so dim
And we could even laugh or love
With bowls full to the brim

So stop and stay a while
My wife, My friend, or son
I’d offer it to friend or foe
One for all, or all for one

Inhale the hate and pain outside
Feel the fire burn within
Breathe out relief and happiness
Meet the day’s start with a grin

And when I’m old and dying
Gasping for my last breathe
Just light a joint for grandpa
And i’ll go smiling to my death
