What is OpenToonz?
This is software for producing a 2D animation.

It is based on the software "Toonz", which was developed by Digital Video S.p.A. in Italy, customized by Studio Ghibli, and has been used for creating its works for many years. Dwango launches this OpenToonz project, in cooperation with Digital Video and Studio Ghibli.

This software can be used by anyone free of charge, no matter whether the purpose of use is commercial or not.

Handwriting has no bearing on drawing ability.
>>
>>2506990

If you don't write a lot you're not going to make it.
>>
>>2506990
i hope so. i've been thinking about it for a while how maybe peoples sense of appealing shapes and line control might be limited by how good their handwriting is if they have been doing it for their entire lives.

i've also been using a brush pen for almost a year on and off. i wrote my name, i thought hey, that's pretty good for using a brush pen. my friend tried, not an artist, never used any kind of fine brush, they got nice consistent and appealing lines -____-

how are you going through the fundamentals? are you going through them sequentially, i.e. spending a month + on perspective, then moving to figures, or are you going through them all at the same time switching subjects between the hours or days?

which do you think is the best way of going through them?

1000 gestures every day
>>
I started with figures. Doing gestures, Loomis/Hampton/Hogarth, and studies. But I got a little bored with it and switched over to perspective. now idk whether to juggle them both at once or get back to figures until I reach my goals with them (which is to do 666 gestures of 30sec, 2min, 5min, and 10min each. And finish all the figure drawing books I have).
>>
Personally I think it's garbage to switch around multiple fundamentals at the same time because they follow a logical progression.

First comes perspective and form which are pretty much the same thing. If you learn to draw the basic forms in every perspective you pretty much have extremely solid drawing skills without ever drawing a single real subject.

Now here comes a fundamental that isn't a progression but that follows your other fundamentals troughout the entire fundamental learning process and beyond. That is the active visual library. I say active...

>mfw I grind out shit for days learning something new then the next day pick up my sketchbook and do a good drawing on the first try.

Why does this happen? Does the brain need time to rest and synthesize the information?

>Does the brain need time to rest and synthesize the information?
Yes. You will learn more doing 2 hours a day for a week than you will doing 14 hours in a single day.
>>
the brain is active even during sleep. it takes that time to continue processing information and solve the difficulties you're faced with. this is the underlying concept of every NEVER GIVE UPPU speech you've heard
>>
It's 'cause two parts of you are developing when you're learning art. Your eyes, and your hands. Hands is self-explanatory. You know how some of the art you thought was amazing before you started learning art in seriousness looks like cheap bullshit now? That's because your eyes are better.

Thing is, they don't always sync up when improving. If everything you're drawing is suddenly shit, it's because your eyes have gotten better before your hands have, so you can see what you're doing wrong without the capabilities to fix it.

Then...

Is this school recommandable? What courses are interesting for animation?

>Is this school recommandable?
Depends on your major. SVA is at its absolute best for advertising/design art I've heard, since New York loves that shit. Their CG animation department also seem to get a lot of mentions, internship opportunities, and most of the people who makes films during their school year end up being very successful in festivals.

I've graduated from SVA with a BFA in 2D animation, and it really, really varies. My first couple of years were not so great, but once I got to pick from the advanced teachers for...

Second post. For drawing teachers:

Matt Archambault: Fantastic for semi-beginners at figure drawing. If you're more advanced, you'll mostly be using his class to figure draw rather than learn. You take him freshman year.

Stephen Gaffney: Great for everything non-beginner figure drawing. He'll get you out of that "Draw with boxes for heads" phase.

Don Poynter: The best for perspective and layout drawing. He has a pinpoint eye for perfect perspective, and a really good storyboard...

Third post. For humanities classes.
Carl Skutsch: He's the best at any history class. Makes the topic interesting, easy to learn, pretty easy tests. He gives you homework for every class, which is the only downside if you're busy, but he's really solid at teaching that it shouldn't be a struggle and pretty lenient if you're struggling with your schedule.

David Borg: Solid at psych classes. Will show and discuss quite a few documentaries, gives very little homework, and likes to...

.pngs always save the same way so I'd say your brushes had aliasing and that's what's leading to the shitty grainy aliased look

I had no idea what that meant, so after googling I believe my lines were anti-aliased. Maybe the brush lines I went with were a bit softer than I would usually use, but could that really be what's causing my issue? and is there a way to fix it?
