I dunno. It's sort of apples and oranges for me. Like I can appreciate some of those asian designs in video games and stuff where their swords are literally bigger than they are, and they have crazy over the top strange armors. Like in Monster Hunter the designs have some fantastic shapes and are very fun and interesting. But to enjoy all that stuff you need to be able to throw physics and logic out the window.
More grounded designs can be cool too, but it's sort of a different entity I think than those stylized designs and it's not fair to judge one from the perspective of the other.

Seems to me the goal of that painting was to have big shapes with clear, simplified plane changes to show how light hits the forms. The focus was clearly not on armor design. Artists do sketches for different purposes and to sometimes exercise or experiment with different things. It's sad that I even have to point that out to someone who I assume is also at least an aspiring artist. You need to draw more.
