I'm an artfag and I take public transport every day. I have a huge urge to take photos of people I see and use them as references. What should I do?

Open a photography studio and make people pay you to take pictures of them. Maybe thatll calm your urges. It's legal to photograph people in public though. So go right ahead if youre buff. Just play surveillance man level autism when confronted.

Learn basic composition so your pictures look like actual art instead of just creep shots. I take pictures of people all the time, and if they say anything, I show them.

Not so much imo. It's always super mid-centered. Not so interesting I think. Also your pieces are quite repetitive. I don't know what you are trying to do but personally I also really dislike seeing faces in these types of work. Adds an element of non-abstractness that ruins the whole.

I really really like this one though http://i.imgur.com/fQZxFlt.png

Have attached one of my abstract doodles so you get a feel for where I'm coming from (I jus ttry to entertain the eye and play with texture, temperature, angles and value)

Is there even any compositional thought behind this?

Seems to me that you just slapped a lot of shit into the middle.

I need someone with a critical eye. My dad drew this and showed it to me. I think it's pretty good, but it just doesn't look finished to me for some reason. He got really disappointed. What do you guys make of it?

Am i not seeing what you guys are seeing? This looks pretty gud to me. I don't see how it could be unfinished.

Do any of you have a bunch of anatomy tutorial images you can dump? All of mine (900 and counting, references included) instantly got wiped off my phone. Half of it dealt with female anatomy and hip construction.

Why are you keeping that shit on your phone? Literally the number one electronic device that gets damaged or lost in any person's personal possession. There are plenty of decent external hard drives under 50 bucks to keep your data safe. Or dozens of viable cloud data storage, many of them free up to a certain amount.

If you have data you don't want to lose, back it up. There are so many highly convenient options out there these days, there is literally no excuse.

Technically it's pretty good, looks like something painted back before our time (I don't know my eras, sue me) but I feel like the piece overall is kind of weak.

You could push the surrealism a lot farther, especially with the face, right now it's not very surreal to me more like a lady with stuff on her wearing a mask. Kinda boring. Push it farther!

I say study fabric a little bit more too because some of the shading looks a little weird, like i can't place what sort of fabric it might be. Right now it looks like the really think crimpy stuff that I had a skirt made out of when I was five (definitely not the look you're going for).

Btw unless someone asks, assume no one gives a shit about seeing more on here, you're coming off as pretty cocky right now.

Thanks bunches. I agree with the fabric comment. I paint mostly from memory and with no reference images. But I can assure you I'm anything but cocky lol. I just really wanted honest feedback from strangers to help me see my work more objectively. Thanks again.

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make your mom proud.

why dont you just do a set of hands 10 - 100.

break the forms down to simple shapes first,
understand that they are like spades,

also check the refrence pic thread some one posted a thousand hands,

so spent and hour or two then go back to what ever "finished works" you where focussing on OP
>>
>>2442223
how the fuck do you struggle with hands

you have two right before you just waiting.

drawing the human body requires memorization, that's just fact. but hands are always there in case you need to cheat. if you're not satisfied drawing from your own hands then you might be unsatisfied instead with how you're actually drawing.
>>
>>2442223
it seems more like you struggle to see in volumes. I know it's not fun but maybe play around with more simple shapes a bit?

?

I'm trying to paint yin yang koi fishes on my wall I've drawn one, now I need to draw the other, as they need to be identical, I'm looking for a way to trace the first one, flip it over & get it on the wall. Anyone has any ideas or tips on how to accomplish this?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2442387
use a grid and you wont need to trace any of em. Google it.
>>
>>2442387
If you free hand it, worry about making them sisters not twins.
>>
>>2442387
Scan the picture, copy, mirror.
Use a projector and put both up on the wall, trace both onto wall and paint.
You're welcome

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?

>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.
