So I've started 30 pushups every 30 minutes. Starting at 9am and ending at midnight. Whenever the clock hits :00 or :30, I hit the ground and crank 'em out. If I'm at work, I just crank 'em out where no one can see and get back to work.
Honestly, this feels natural. I've been able to do 100 in a row for awhile, so this isn't exhausting, but gives an awesome soreness by bedtime. I think humans were meant more to be constantly expending moderate amounts energy than just dedicating an hour a day to a big burst of energy, but I'm still going...

at least try to do some kind of progression where you start to elevate your feet as sets get too easy, or through on weight plates, or move to more difficult variations (i am a fan of archer push ups)
if you do that, you will actually make gains... but nowhere near as good as if you stopped with the calisthenic nonsense and picked up a barbell

I did something like this for months when I didn't have access to a gym. All that happened was that I maintained my strength and ended up getting sore shoulders that stopped when I was able to go to the gym normally. If this is all you do, you'll also end up with a muscle imbalance unless you do horizontal pulling as well

They're not everything, but genetics do play a large part.
Also keep in mind that many of these guys you're talking about likely have played sports or had active lifestyles since they were very young, and/or didn't develop bad eating habits that they need to correct. That's really what calorie counting is: restructuring your diet. If you're used to over/under eating you're gonna need to actually monitor your diet in order to adjust it to fit your goals, as opposed to someone who's had a diet that's supported an active lifestyle...

I've been going to the gym consistently (5 times a week) for about 2-3 months now, and have seen some good improvement as far as strength and size go, but I haven't seen much fat loss. This is because I haven't watched my calories for shit. I'm going to start doing 2400 calories a day (TDEE=2900), and I don't eat any shit food (haven't had candy, soda, etc for about a year). What is your estimate on how long until I don't look shitty?

Mah bro. If I started looking like you, I honestly wouldn't bother to cut or bulk. Keep eating the amount you are eating, maybe more healthy stuff, as you gradually build more muscle and lose fat. You will eventually get lean this way, and you won't have to go through the pain of a cut.
Since you are already eating enough to maintain significant bodyfat you are already eating enough to gain good muscle. But as you gain muscle your body will only be able to remain the same weight by cutting fat.

If you are eating at maintenance, and you are working out well, and since you are a relatively new trainee, you can assume ~1-1.5lbs of muscle growth per month for the first year or so. If you are eating maintenance then every pound of fat lost would be a pound gained, so you could expect to lose 12-18lbs of fat and gain 12-18 lbs of muscle in a year.
You CAN do it faster with a cut-bulk-cut cycle. But it is a little tougher to pull off when you are a beginner.
