Requesting best cities to live in

I want food carts, food trucks, food stalls, classic corner-diners, basement bars and what not
Those that play host to those picturesque homes of "The Best" on every block
Towns, cities, counties - all that offer a good number of those easy fast food street vendors for when you're on a lunch break

Simple or complex, pubs and diners around every corner, or that one place with the food

Does /ck/ make their own jerky? It's my favorite snack, but I don't like paying $3/ounce in stores. I just use my oven, but I'm thinking of investing in a dehydrator or a smoker. What do you think?

I have a dehydrator but have also used the oven.
I think the oven works just as well once you have the temperature and door set just right.
Never tried smoking it, I use my smoker for ribs, turkey and nuts mostly.

I wanna drink the purest, cleanest water I can.

I drink tap water now, but that shits full of limescale, chalk and all sorts in my area in southern UK.
I don't like bottled water since you can taste the plastic and I read somewhere that the plastic used in water bottles can give off some sort of estrogen hormones into the water from the plastic, if left for a while.

I remember when I was little and I was visiting family in the country in Ireland. We were walking a huge herd of sheep from one place to another across all these fields and rocky areas. We stopped at a house of this guy my uncle knew and he lifted up this huge slab of rock covering a well, jumped down into it standing on a ledge and scooped up a cup of water for us all.
That was the cleanest and best water I've ever tasted, it was sweet and almost nourishing. If I had water of that quality on tap I'd drink only that since it was so nice. Can only imagine how good that water would be for you too.

I know I'm not gonna find water of that quality, but how can I drink better water that's gonna taste better and be better for me than the shit that comes out of taps or bottles?

Man, I know what you mean. When I was a little boy I had a dog named Sparky. He was a damn good dog and only shit on the carpet once but that was because I fed him barbecue sauce as a joke. He used to hang out under the stairs in our geranium room because he liked the smell. Sparky died from a seizure one day in his sleep. He was the best friend I could ever ask for. I still buy geraniums and leave them on his grave every week. Thank you, Sparky.

Get a reverse osmosis setup, remineralize it to taste (careful about what you use here, some use "natural sources" which will just put lots of heavy metals back into the water).

I want a fast way to make, say, 1000 perfectly clear ice cubes in a week.
I was thinking of the top-down freezing method because it seems efficient and not time consuming.
What do you anons suggest?

What is your preferred peanut butter and why? Pic related is mine, because:

1. It's natural. Doesn't taste like marshmallows or cream cheese, but like peanuts.
2. It spreads easily while still avoiding being a literal paste or cream, like most popular peanut butters are. It's like, just, mashed peanuts with some natural peanut-y oil to give a spreadable consistency.
3. It has actual peanuts in it. Yum, yum.

:-)

you are criticizing these things about modern peanut butters like extra taste and better consistency, without realizing that they are improvements
>>
>>7852791
I go for postmodern peanut butters
>>
>>7852801
Well that's your opinion. I said "PREFERRED" peanut butter, as in your personal opinion on what is the best peanut butter TO YOU. If you like "modern" peanut butter, as you call it (It might be the more modern style Idfk about the history of peanut butter), then that's fine. I'm just saying this is my favorite and why. And you're supposed to post your favorite and why... Like I did... But now my thread is ruined probably. :-((

Alright, co/ck/s. Let's settle it.

>inb4 McDonald's fries

Their fries are in a different tier all together, but BK has onion rings with zesty sauce. It's a wash.

Who wins the hamburger/chicken/fish war between these two and why?

Tfw too poor to buy any fast food so cant participate on a Japanese wood cutting forum.

I drink beer and liquor, almost exclusively. I've had wine, but mostly just at family dinners and stuff. If my eyes were closed I couldn't tell the difference between a red and a white.

My problem is women usually prefer wine to beer, and if I serve liquor then they won't drink much because they know how easily they'll get drunk. So I want to stock up on some guest wine for my bachelor pad.

Problem is, I don't know where to start. I don't want to go expensive on it--its not for me and most women I date wouldn't know the difference anyways.

What would be the Sam Adams of wines? I figure boxed wine is like the Keystone of wines, the cheaper bottles are like the Bud Lights. Now I like a good beer for myself, but I keep some Sam Adams Rebel IPA around for when the guys are over--not the best, but no one turns up their nose to it. Whats the wine equivalent that I could find in most grocery stores and neighborhood shops? What brand? What type? What price is good?

If it matters, I live in New England

>My problem is women usually prefer wine to beer
If you hang out with people for whom there is a pronounced gender divide where drink preferences are concerned, I wouldn't worry too much about getting sophisticated.
>What would be the Sam Adams of wines?
There isn't really one, but any of the entry level Trimbach whites (pinot blanc, pinot gris, or riesling) should work. It's cheap, but legitimately good quality wine, unlike most new world whites at that price point, and it should be available at any liquor store that isn't completely shit. And it should be relatively easy for a complete pleb to enjoy, while being decent enough that a person with some standards would still enjoy it as well.
>>
>>7852146
I've seen that, people bringing it to parties and stuff. And I've heard it is very drinkable. I've also heard bota box is decent.

But a box of wine just doesn't paint the picture or set the mood I'm going for.

I appreciate the suggestion though

I don't you, but I know this... you haven't LIVED until you've tasted by home made old fashioned potato salad -- I use two kinds of potatoes and THREE kinds of eggs, plus a secret ingredient that you'll never guess what. Pic is not MY potato salad, just a nice pic I found on google, my potato salad looks nasty as fuck, but you would cream your shorts to try it - its heavenly.

Your secret ingredient wouldn't be derived from celery in any way would it?
>>
I look forward to trying it! Thanks for posting. :^)
>>
>>7852084
Not him, but mine is.

I powder celery seeds and dried minced onion to use in making the dressing for my potato salad, which is a "cooked mayonnaise" type dressing, somewhat similar to a hollandaise, but made with oil rather than butter.
It's basically a regular mayonnaise, egg yolk, lemon juice and prepared mustard, but heated on a double boiler. I add the freshly powdered celery seed and onion to the yolk mixture as it's thickening up on the double boiler. The oil is then whisked in as normal. Unlike its raw counterpart, cooked mayonnaise keeps longer/is less likely to spoil. It's a good idea to do it if you're making a large amount of a mayo-based salad, especially if it's likely going to be left out to fend for itself, like at a cook-out/barbecue or a picnic sort of shindig.

The most controversial things I've seen from them are one of their writers' stance on bleached flour being superior (not that I care as a 100% Whole Wheat-fag):
http://www.seriouseats.com/2016/05/why-no-unbleached-cake-flour.html

The same writer is convinced that organic (no-cornstarch added) confectioner's sugar makes a smoother frosting or uncooked dessert:
http://www.seriouseats.com/2016/03/organic-powdered-sugar-versus-conventional-baking-cornstarch-tapioca.html
Can anyone actually comment on this?

Also Kenji is convinced that refrigerating tomatoes does nothing to their taste and texture of which I VIOLENTLY disagree even though I do it anyway becaus they rot too fast otherwise and are expensive:
