You are Gloria Sotohiko, Club Captain and Commander of the Okinawa Joint American-Japanese Girl's Academy Senshado Club, recently transferred over from the Yamato Japanese-American Women's University as part of the student council's ridiculous plan to save the Okinawa from bankruptcy. The long and the short of it comes down to them hoping you can replicate the miracle that Oorai Girl's High School and Lafayette Girl's Academy, winning the ITL and winning a crap load of money to support the ship. So yeah. No pressure.

However, right now you're thinking about your crew. You know- knew them like the back of your hand. Alexandra Steiner and Annabeth L'Vert were both from Texas, though their parents were immigrants from Germany and France respectively, while Doreen Green was from California, like you. Nobody is quite sure where Lauren Jarek is from... You met in kindergarten, the Yamato being one of the few academy ships with facilities for all grades, pre-school to college. You started tanking together your first year of middle school.

Alex, athletic and wild, used to be one of the best infantry women in the league, now a damn fine gunner. She swore she'd never sit in a tank unless you were piloting it. She and Annie have been together for three years now.

Annie, refined, composed, polite and kind, your loader. God damn girl's strong as two grown men, you'd swear. She loves tanking, and she's pretty fond of showing off her strength, and has a surprising grasp of swearing in three different languages.

Doreen's obsessed with animals, everywhere she goes she has that damn pet squirrel of hers hiding in her scarf. The child of veterinarians, she's planning to study at being a doctor herself, and her favorite hobby is listening to music and playing with radios. She and Lauren have been dating for... christ, have those two ever NOT been connected at the hip?

Lauren... well, you dunno where the hell she came from. Oh, you know she's got Polish ancestry, and she hails from somewhere in Louisiana, but you mean where SHE actually came from. One day you were trying to find a box of crayons, and then suddenly she was there, putting them in your hand. That's been the dynamic of your relationship ever since. Your driver, she earned the nickname '47' when, early in your tanking career, she damaged every tank in the Yamato Senshado club's roster (forty seven tanks in all), all in the course of one training accident.

And now, of all the girls to show up on the Okinawa, Lauren. You hug the girl tight around the middle, and she pats you on the back.

"Absolutely adooorable, dears! I'm so glad I could contribute." Oh. Right. Berry. She's a nice girl, really, but she's just... you dunno. Something grating about her. "Sit, sit, we have some important things to talk about. Such as your lack of club funding..." She muses. Lauren sets a folding chair down next to you.

"Alright, I'm listening." You say, sitting. "I've heard funding isn't too great right now..."

"You're correct! Your new boat is just short of sunk. And the sad news is, any money you make in the ITL will be going to keep the lights on and the fuel flowing. Sooo, you'll have little to no funding for repairs, maintenance, new equipment..." She muses, opening a thermos and pouring herself a small cup of what smells like coffee.

>Well shit.

I was thinking of checking out this quest seeing it on the catalog. As a tip, if the time between threads can be measured in months, it may not be a great idea to start the thread off with an open-ended vote if you want any voters.

After a youth spent learning magic, you and your girlfriend spent some time as bandits after your home was destroyed, but have recently taken a chance to escape that life into a legit one... Wow, you have been... Really out of it since you were. Out. You were pretty sure you were dead or something, despite the last things you'd heard before blacking out, but apparently you were just so lacking in resistance that you had absolutely zero sway against your mind control.

Also, you're in pieces. This is a bit more pressing to you.

"Urgh... Give those back so I can regenerate already." You wave your right armless stub at Ellen, who still has your limbs on a skewer on her sword, and they too squirm in response. "This is really unpleasant."

"Wait... How do we know he's not still under someone's control? There've been cases of multiple layers of mind control, you know!"

Zoe, standing nearby, frowns, saying, "cut him some slack, Ellen... Besides, Wes and Irene know what they're doing."

She sighs, scraping your limbs off of her frankly terrifying sword and dropping them closeish to your body. Alright... Thankfully, brainwashed!you didn't waste TOO much essence, so a regeneration like this is only moderately essence-intensive.

Wes and Irene are quick to offer hands up once you're fully-formed, but you politely decline both by standing yourself.

Wait, why are you wasting time with these pleasantries? You have very important information to report.

"There's this Advocate, Limin, and she and Zlatan are..."

"Co-conspirators, we're aware... I've yet to meet her myself, but you were controlled to knock me out when I mentioned as much to you," Irene says.

"Sorry about that, but my point is that it's way more than you think." Before you can be interrupted, you add, "she's Paula, under a lot of makeup, some hair dye, and a haircut. I don't know... How she managed to live a life as an Advocate, or why she's working with Zlatan, but...They use this restaurant, the backroom is... Soundproofed or something, and all red..."

"This... Is unexpected," Irene says, "but it also explains why I'm the last to meet her... Esmer and I used to speak with her quite a bit. There's a chance I might have recognized her immediately."

Meanwhile, you're nearsighted, glassesless and only sort of-kind of saw her once. Anyway, you say, "did I... hurt anyone or anything while I was out?"

Irene nods. "But... so we're told, they were all Dain and Groznyi. You were pretty prominent in the final battle there..."

"So Odo won that one?"

"Duchess Victoria's here for treaty stuff right now, actually," Wes explains.

>A. But why is HE here
>B. We don't have time to talk!
>C. That makes sense
>D. Write-in response
>E. Be silent

You are awoken by the sunlight hitting your eyes. You stretch your fingers to feel something metallic in your hands, it’s a medium sized dagger. You look around your surroundings to see a forest with tall evergreens growing around you in all directions. Spotting a small almost translucent interface in front you to see which reads Welcome to Perfect World… but before you can keep reading you hear a rustling coming from you left to see a snarling wolf ready to attack you.

>Seaborne Plantation

The light never wakes you. Never has the time.

It’s always the crackle and pop of the fire that brings you out of the dark. You don’t feel the warmth of it—hearth’s too far from where you lay, in your bed of hay and two blankets. Two Blankets. One to keep the straw off your skin, the other to cover your body with. It was a rare sight for just about any nigger on the plantation. You were lucky.

Mam Hany liked to point out to you whenever she got the chance, it was a luggshury. Or was that Lucksury? Heck if you remember. She had a better chance at remembering words than you did, being a nigger that knew now to read.

“Done sleepin’, child?” A gravelly voice asks from near the flames. You pull your body from the hay and glance over to see an old man sitting in a wooden chair, his skin a shade lighter than your own and his white hair thin on his head. A thin wooden stick in his hands. He’s dressed a better than most of the others that live in the line of shacks that you and the rest of Master Seaborne’s niggers live.

Jeb is a house slave. He has more than most. Like this shack that he keeps to himself—he let you sleep here. Out of the kindness of his blessed heart. The Master let him have his own place, since Jeb has been around since he was born.

He doesn’t have to share like the rest.

You murmur something you don’t hear yourself, A good morning or maybe just a yes, and Jeb just lets out a chuckling grunt before standing up shakily, leaning on the stick. “Bout damn time too. You took any more o’ mah time, I was gon’ kick you awake. Where you working today, child?”

They are coming for me again, a trifling affair, for no man can stay my heart's beat. A lark almost, a joke even, but I know these coins have things besides men in their ranks, and I am blessed to have only met these, godless heavens thou they may be, mortal men. I sigh, walking down the hall, hearing them whisper orders to eachother, taking positions to ambush me like a mad beast, I grin widely, and raise my revolvers

"Let us pray together, one, last time" I say as the dull, dim, dark hall lights up with noise and lights

I frown, soon there will only be silence..once more
and here I shall stand
alone once again

"Sooo" the headmaster says flatly as I glare at him from across the room as he grins smugly "You know we don't have paid vacation days right?"

My tails flick behind me as he giggles at his own joke, it's actually gets on my nerves a bit, mostly because I don't see how he can see that is funny, it's more of a statement than a joke

You are a first-time DM soon to begin a campaign using a premade adventure module. You have six willing potential players, but the module you're using is clearly written for only four. Handling more than four would be highly difficult, especially since you've never DM'd before.

These are your potential players:

>Player 1: Longtime player. You've been in games with him before, but wouldn't exactly consider him your friend. Very much a power gamer/munchkin. Really socially awkward; you suspect he might have actual autism but know better than to ask. Always smells like Cheetos. Playing a Warforged Paladin.

>Player 2: Stereotypical Reddit atheist, fedora and all. Will probably bring it up in game. Huge fan of a certain cartoon about horses. Is a furry. Playing a Tiefling Rogue.

>Player 3: The fattest, neckbeard-est fat neckbeard you've ever seen. Breathes really loudly and it's annoying as fuck. Massive weeaboo. Playing a Lizardfolk Monk.

>Player 4: Trans girl, just began HRT. Never shuts up about Steven Universe. Playing an Elf Cleric.

>Player 5: Only female in the player pool. Never played a TTRPG before, but plays a lot of MtG. Self-identified feminist vegan. Claims to be a "grey-panromantic demisexual"; you have no idea what this means. Playing a Human Sorceress.

>Player 6: Massive STEM elitist. Moderately red-pilled. More of a wargamer than a roleplayer; owns over $5000 in 40k minis. Waifu is Chaika. Playing a Dwarf Artificer.

Who do you accept, who do you reject?

Today has been altogether a very good day. You have reentered the civilized world and within minutes, got yourself a place to live that wasn't out in the cold! Sure you had to fight your new roommate first, but that was completely unrelated and no one died! You are Tom Gainer and you are cautiously optimistic about your situation. Jim Knots, the Monstrous Super who has been afflicted with the form of a Minotaur, is cooking in the kitchen of the house he has graciously opened to you. It smells like... vegetable stew. You wound up going back out to the reserve to pack up your camp to take what you could with you.

The room Jim lent you smells vaguely of cinnamon and apples. To your left, a full size mattress and box spring lie on the ground it is covered by hot pink bed sheets. You placed your things against the wall opposite to the bed. Its a little depressing that you can carry all of your belongings under one arm, you think as you lie down on the bed. You don't care that its pink; only that it is supremely comfy compared to a sleeping bag on the ground. You ask Jim if you can use his shower and he directs you to the master bathroom of his ranch-styled home. Six months worth of funk and grime wash off you and you feel human again. Your mind shifts to introspective thought. It felt good to be able to use your powers today. If you hadn't caught that police car, the cop inside might have been crushed to death. Jim would have been charged for that death and labeled a Villain by society. Chances of him seeing his daughter again would have been slim to none. In a sense today, you might very well have saved three lives in one act. And it felt good. Speaking of feeling good, your hair feels lighter as months of grease is scrubbed off with the vanilla scented shampoo. You wonder how much shampoo Jim must go through in a month...

You finish your shower and Jim tells you that dinner will be served in about an hour.

You wake up a bit later in the morning than usual, in what is apparently Sasuke's apartment. You don't see Sasuke anywhere when you first get up, but it's only a few minutes before he returns with a bag in hand.

"I just ran out to get us some breakfast." he explains. "There wasn't anything to eat here, but there was some money I could use."

The two of you put away your futons and eat the food Sasuke picked up, while talking a bit.

"One of my brother's Mangekyo techniques is known as Tsukuyomi." Sasuke begins. "It likely shares some similarities with the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and if our hypothesis is correct, the genjutsu we are in now. When Tsukuyomi is cast, Itachi can control absolutely everything in the illusion. However, the genjutsu is so complex that he has to stay connected to the illusion to maintain it. Even if he isn't visible to the victim, he is there, observing. Which means Madara is probably here, too. He can't just leave, he needs to maintain the illusion until his goal is met. And I think I know what he wants."

You and Sasuke finish eating and get ready to head out.

>A.Talk to Sasuke about something as you go (Write-in)

>B.Head straight to the Hokage without talking

>C.Suggest going somewhere else first

>D.Tell him that if he knows, you shouldn't bother with villagers and just go do it yourselves right now

>Game studies, ludology or gaming theory is a discipline that deals with the critical study of games. More specifically, it focuses on game design, players, and their role in society and culture. Game studies is an inter-disciplinary field with researchers and academics from a multitude of other areas such as computer science, psychology, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, arts and literature, media studies, and communication.

In what sense? I'm sure you would learn some things.

If you're asking "should I go to college for this so that I can get a job?", I would say no for pretty much any creative enterprise. Video game developers, tabletop designers etc. are relatively tiny fields where individual capability and connections matter much more than a piece of paper. Going to college to design games is like going to college to be a pop star, there are just so few people doing it and your chances are miniscule + reliant on your own entrepreneurship, and that aspect of the industry is tiny.

Learn things like mathematics, engineering, etc. that you can apply to pretty much anything for a well round education that will help you in making games and more. And in case you don't become another Monte Cook.
>>

>In what sense?

"Critical study" usually means learning to undermine ideological enemies through the careful misreading of their trusted sources.

People join these programs unaware that they are enlisting in a broader culture-war.

It's not game design. It's the humanities. Some is math. But it isn't a trainee program for anything, it's science.

You are Irue Valen, blood heir to house Valen and currently the leader of a small squad of peasants who you called your knights. Months ago you thought the world was your oyster by birthright, and only since have you discovered that you were going to have to struggle and fight for every inch of ground you wanted. Concealed away by your own family, thrust into a world that was far larger and more complicated than your gilded cage had even begun to suggest, you had experienced a crash course in what it meant to be a noble in La'Fiel.

It wasn't fun and courtly games. You met people evicted from their homes, forced into brigandry and lives of homeless extremes, and realized that their voices meant nothing to the titanic forces that had swept their entire lives aside while bickering between each other. You realized first hand the weight of what it meant to fight alongside the people putting their trust upon your shoulders; That they would sweat, bleed and die in the hopes you could lead them to a better future. You learned that everyone had their own game, that even if someone's blood was the same as yours, they wouldn't hesitate to push you aside if it benefited them.

Along with those lessons came a slew of experiences you regretted acquiring. Facts about yourself you'd prefer to have remained ignorant of, and the hard realization that the only power in a word was the implication of the action to follow. Hollow words... Things like that would never find your knights a home and path in life again. Was it any wonder your relationship with Rinnier had been so rocky, when all you could do time and time again was offer her reassurance and lip service of your intentions?

"We've scoped out the place as best we can. There are a lot of houses here, we don't really have the manpower to look through them all; Especially if we accidentally find someone."

>>
"If I had to guess, they're probably using the main house as their primary base... Though I couldn't tell you anything else about it."

"You haven't encountered anyone yet, then?"

"We're trying to be subtle about it, ser. I'd bet on some of us in a bar fight, but we're not mercenaries. Most of us don't even have blood on our hands... Frankly, I hope it can stay like that."

You turn crimson eyes away from one of the ten knights who had been smuggled into the city walls, staring out of the window of the small abandoned house you had commandeered just inside the old Tier estate within Carona. Asche had taken on the Diary of Reflection to follow Priat as they tailed both Roderick and the Mayor to find where he was holding Rinnier, and with the bitter taste of your last encounter with Jill still staining your tongue, that left you alone with your knights as you decided how to best use the time you had between now and when you expected the others to arrive.

You doubted that by the end of this, your knight was going to be able to get his wish about keeping their hands clean. Not the least of which because, after everything this town had been through, after what they had done to not only yourself, but Asche, and whatever was going on with Kara, you had long since passed the point of considering ending this with 'just' words.

Every time you'd tried to placate Rinnier, reassure her that you had your Testament's interests in mind, that they mattered.
You had proven it to Ari, gained her trust in you and a faith that had been strong enough to slightly disturb you.
Kara's allegiance was a point of contention, but after last night, you wanted to believe in her; Wanted her to believe in you.

Now.. Now it was time to back up all of those empty words that had built the tenous connection between yourself and the fiery tempered Testament.

The Mayor was going to choke on the consequences of his actions.

You are Irue Valen, and you're tired of being walked over.

I dislike the idea of psionic-using people in highly magical settings, would I be a douche DM to say he's not allowed?

Magic is magic, some people just use their own instead of borrowing from the world around them.

the Forgotten Realms is the epitome of kitchen-sink worldbuilding I don't think you can ruin the flavour by adding anything

Do you allow wizards? Clerics? Druids?

Then yes, banning the far more balanced psionics if you allow that shit makes you an utter idiot.

Do you like Fate? Why/Why not?

I like the idea of Fate- by merging the characters' stats with the mechanics of storytelling, the players have a stake in the plot and a real connection to the story.

In practice, though, this leads to players taking the least confrontational and most predictable route, even to the point of saying "This isn't worth it, let's go home and end the story there."

Dude, what? I've literally never even heard of that happening in a FATE group until now. That sounds like a problem with your players.

I love Fate.
I hate Fate threads.
Stop this shit already. Ask a real question pertaining to your game or bugger off. This is just repetition.

An Inquisitor has demanded that we put up a new regiment to aid a crusade that is compiled in the area. As loyal citizens of the Imperium we will fulfill this task.

Give me 1d10 for the classification of our new unit.

Well, we are short of good men, so we will send just a militia. Not very impressive, but we can't afford better troops at the moment.

Let's look what kind of people will be the lucky ones that get send to die for the Emperor.

1d100 for our recruitment criterias.
