Hey /tg/,

I've been on a bit of a norse mythology craze lately, reading up on the shenanigans of Thor (that crossdressing) and realising that half the dwarves in the Hobbit are total ripoffs*. Now, I'm not just a sucker for norse mythology, but mythology in general. It has a tendency to be crazier and feel far more genuine than regular fantasy settings (gee I wonder why).

Now, what I'm wondering is; are there any solid settings entirely based on a specific mythology? Norse, greek, egyptian, you name it.

The only one that directly comes to my mind is Fate of the Norns: Ragnarock. It is based directly on Norse mythology.
I'm sure there are many others that are based or at least heavily inspired by norse mythology. Can't think of any other mythologys at the moment.

You should be able to find FotN in archived pdf threads. I would search but I don't know the successor of archive.moe

Tékumel is based primarily on Indian myth. Got a game, but it's primarily a setting.

I'm the Profit Master of a small Merchants and Monsters game. We recently agreed to let a hoomon in, but he insists it's ridiculous to be able to pay the PM in latinum strips for bonus dice. What should we do?

I wish I knew.

There are a lot of options, but in my experience they fall into one of two categories- either way too crunchy, getting lost in ridiculous levels of detail which I'm sure some people love, but makes it unworkable for me and the groups I play with.

Alternatively, they're way too rules light, abstracting everything in the broadest sense to the point the game lacks any feeling of impact.

I'd love to see a game properly strike the balance between detail without sacrificing distinction, but that's an underdeveloped area of game design. Pretty much only Legends of the Wulin and D&D 4e really occupy it.

Last night I have gotten an awesome plot idea.

PCs were accompanying three peasants, a farm maid and a halfling on their way from one village to another as they have spotted an ogre. Instead of avoiding him or killing him, they bickered for like 20 min OOC what to do and eventually ogre spotted them and charged them. He rolled well, killed two human peasants in the process while the rest of the party bailed.

The halfling remained, trying to parley.

And here starts my story.

Ogre captured halfling as his "pet" (had him on a rope like a small dog a while) but then they started to talk. Halfling was kind of a bitter person, fed up with farming life and humans pushing him around. Also, he did not like adventurers very much. So he started to slowly suggest things to ogre. Under halfling's tutelage ogre's ambushing skill would wastly improve. Halfling would help him with scouting and would in fact, during combat, place himself next to giant's head as a pair of additional eyes and tactical adviser. (and perhaps crossbow shooter?)

Bandit rating of the ogre went up and fast. So here are my questions:

- what sort of raids should ogre-halfling team perform? (perhaps striking at night, hitting something that puts villagers at disatvantage)

- sucesfull raider should attract other raiders - goblins, orcs, human bandits to join him. Perhaps even a family of other ogres. How should I approach this?

- should halfling get any levels and if so, which?

Anyway: team ogre-halfling is rampaging throught the villages. How do I advance this further?

thanks

I would've actually considered that a decent discussion to have until the fucking signature at the end

People who do that shit on forums that don't use signatures naturally are the biggest fucking jackoffs on the face of the Earth

But of course the discussion would've ended on the same reason why we're on the two-set paradigm now: There was always the one uninspired set that just had absolutely nothing going for it. So by having two sets instead of three the developers don't end up burning out on ideas trying to adapt the common mechanics to the theme of the block.

And >>46289115 is a fucking cuck. This wasn't like the OGW where the really big shit was leaked. This wasn't like NPH where the entire set was leaked. It was one guy's entire booster pack whom neglected to show the flip side of the DFC he had gotten. It had nothing of purpose other than maybe one fucking lore spoiler (whoopty fucking doo nahiri is fucking shit up who cares).

Honestly if you're going to let Leddit sum up the entirety of the MTG player base for yourself go right ahead. I can't stop you but at least I can call you an absolute faggot for doing so.

How do I end a campaign?

I've been DMing a D&D game with a regular group of friends for a few years now and they've all finally hit level 20. So I've decided there's nowhere else I can take them because they've all become major powers in the game. It's time to bring this thing to a satisfying conclusion, roll the credits, and stick an epilogue onto it.

The thing is that I've NEVER ended a campaign before in all these years I've been gaming. Every single other game I've ever been apart of has always just fizzled out when people didn't show up or real life got in the way of the GM being able to GM.

Can anyone give me any advice?

Tell the players that you think the time has come to end the campaign. Suggest having a session to talk about the epilogue. If everyone wants to start over with new characters, you might do well to promise that the next campaign will be set in the same world (just a bit further into the future).

So I'm putting together a Sci-fi game for some friends and I would like some help developing an alien race. See the entire game is actually going to involve the players interacting with a single planet and its inhabitants, so I wanted to make sure that said inhabitants are well developed and interesting, and I was looking for a few ideas.

The first big thing is I haven't even decided WHAT they are yet. I'd like to try and avoid them being [specific animal] people, but I would like for them to fit in the standard humanoid alien mold. I guess they could slightly be [specific animal] people in the same sense that humans are primate people

Their culture I kind of have a mind for a little currently but I'm really open to ideas. They are not at peace with one another and there are a few factions fighting for power that the players can interact with. The aliens are neither particularly saintly nor particularly vile.

Their tech is where I think I'll need the most help. They're lower tech than the players but not by an enormous amount. So like this race would be approximately around what we might consider cyberpunk tech level with functional cybernetics and advanced computers but still using the equivalent of gunpowder weaponry and unable to reach faster than light speeds. The tricky thing here is I don't want the aliens to just be cyberpunk, specifically I'm trying to think about what their weapons look like.
What might be a good semi-sci fi weapon type that an alien species could have reasonably developed that isn't just guns. I'm even willing to stick within the bounds of chemically propelled solid projectiles I just don't want them being exactly the same. I also feel like they should have some areas where they lagged behind (maybe they never quite got into cyborgs) and others where they excelled (holy crap they have force fields much earlier than we did). Again I'm really open to suggestions here and I'm mostly just trying to brainstorm.

I appreciate any help, I'm sorry its all a bit vague at this point but I'm at close to the absolute earliest point in development of this species (I have a lot of other stuff down like player tech, theme, the specific planet, etc, I just feel like this is an important enough part of the game I don't want to mess it up)
>>
interested and formuling a quite exhaustive answer, wait some minutes

What is their planet like? Do you have that figured out? I mean, is it a single biome type deal, or are there a multitude of biomes, like Earth? Are they centered on a specific continent? What's that continent like in terms of flora and fauna? What was it like thousands or millions of years ago? What threats or hardships did the species have to overcome to develop sapience and tool using? We're they second string predators like humanity, or third string, or apex? If apex, why did they need to develop tool using and the tribal mechanisms that lead to society forming? How resource rich is the place on the world they originated from? All these will help you to formulate an idea of what theis cultural background is, and that informs thear present state as an advanced species. Also, check this out for more thought experiment type shit: http://www.frathwiki.com/Dr._Zahir%27s_Ethnographical_Questionnaire

You tumble around in the bed, the rising morning heat setting in, waking you despite every neuron in your brain tempting you to stay asleep for just a little while longer. You spend time reflecting over the events of yesterday, how you had been given a flying start, and not the good kind, into this world. It might be due to your meta knowledge of the 'brought into an alternative world' setting that you are taking it somewhat calmly, but those differ wildly from source to source and there are no guarantees that you can draw experience from what are ultimately works of fiction.

Getting on all fours you stretch out and realize you don't remember when and how you got into bed, but judging by the lingering scent this is Mina's bed. She however is nowhere to be seen. Scouting out the room, it's rather small and utilitarian, not quite how you would imagine it, on the top of a basket you spot your clothes neatly folded with your bag on top of them.

As you dress up you to ponder over the fact that you don't have any underwear, the knight order couldn't procure any that would fit your thick tail and you had thought of getting custom tailored ones, but yesterday you had spotted some lizardmen on the streets, with their similarly thick tails surely it should be possible to find pre cut ones. That should save you some cash..

Which reminds you that you haven't even counted how much money you have, really you should have done that first thing once you got out of the knight compound yesterday, but all the exiting new sights kept distracting you. It's sorta worrisome how you kept showing childlike tendencies yesterday.

Picking up the small purse inside the bag, you start counting. There are 14 more copper coins inside, and 3 more larger ones.. Ugh, you recall straight away that you paid with the large ones while buying shish kebab yesterday. It's regrettable, they are obviously more worth, but there are no indication of how much more worth they are, and such you don't really feel that bad over it. It's a good wakeup call, you need to relate to economy somehow so you can appraise the worth of items and services.

While attaching the small purse to your belt, you taking a mental note that there probably are literal cutpurses here. Leaving the bag here in Mina's room, no point dragging around the letters until you need them, you head out of the room. There's a corridor with more door, at the end one of them is open where the smell of baking bread is gently spreading from.

Heading inside you see kitchen staff who seems busy preparing todays breakfast, and Mina is amongst them.

Calling out to her, as she turns around you notice her hair is longer and that she doesn't smell the same. The yeti picks on your confusion and gives you a warm smile.

"Good morning Alex, I am Heidi, Jarl and Mina's mother. I apologies for not greeting you yesterday, during our evening service it gets quite busy."

I tried something new this time with the lite PDF, i noticed that there was alot of blank space every where, so I compacted everything so there would be less blank space doing nothing, also made the text smaller and margins thinner, making the PDF overall smaller than the last and hopefully saving ink should someone want to have a physical copy on hand
