Question of the thread:
>Why have so many OSR games not deviated from the Fighter/Mage/Thief/Cleric/Elf/Dwarf/Halfling classes?
>>46221968
Probably because those were included in the editions they enjoyed and played in the past. Personally I wish people would put more options in their games or change up certain classes, there's enough OSR games that mimic the older setup that I'd think killing a few sacred cows for your own game would be perfectly acceptable.
Hell, let's make the Fighter the most complex class and the Magic-User the most simple class to play mechanically. Why not?
>>46222643
>wizard can magically add bonuses or penalties to d20 rolls
>the strength and frequency with which he does so increases every level
That'd be pretty simple.
>>46222643
>>46222689
Personally, I just like having races as classes. It's fun.
But I also hate, hate how the thief works. He's shite. Low levels his abilities might as well not exist, high levels you can just stop giving a fuck about being clever about traps forever because he can just magically get rid of them no problem. I'm not a fan of magic users being glorified peasants at level 1 either. It's like a tax on fun. "oh you wanna have glorious...

They put a dybuk in a car (a dybuk is a lesser daemonhost, for anyone who hasn't read Disciples of the Dark Gods from DH1e), while it was locked up in a warded cage, and then set the car on fire, stuck a cinderblock on the gas pedal, and threw it at a gang boss.

1. DO NOT FLAUNT YOUR POWERS IN PUBLIC. Unless you really feel like rolling up a new character.
2. Psykers aren't like wizards in other settings. Your first answer to a problem should never start with the words "I cast", "I invoke" or "I focus X power." Always solve problems the mundane way first, the less you have to roll Psychic Phenomena or Perils, the better. If shit starts going south, or if there's clearly a problem only Psykers could solve, go ahead, BUT KEEP IT AT...

What's the /tg/ view on Rational/Rationalist Fiction genre as a whole? Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, for all its flaws, at least did one thing right in that the rules and laws of the universe are internally consistent, as any fantasy world should be, and that the protagonist has no qualms in exploiting those rules for his own gains. Essentially, the Rational Fiction genre is the side of Rules-Lawyering and Power-gaming that we begrudgingly respect, for all the fact that he was a jerk to the group about it, you can't help but give props to That Guy for...

So, last night I posted a thread about people's favorite systems, and this game came up. I'd never heard of it, as it's never been in English. So, I've started the translation process. Check it out.
Notes:
This is ver 0.1. I just fed the text Google and pasted into a doc. A lot of the language is obtuse, and in some places kind of funny. The next step is working through the document and cleaning up the language

Would Undead or Empire of Dust be better for it?

((Welcome to the Mecha Mercs Skirmish Campaign.
This is a tactical turn based collective game where each player takes on the role of a mech pilot. As the campaign progresses the players will accumulate a supply of resources which can be used to build up a persistent pool of mechs and equipment, but watch out! If your pilot dies you could lose it all and be forced to start again with an inferior mech.
Right now we are currently in a Hanger thread where the players can talk shop, ask the QM questions...

A few little patches:
Increased the sensor range on the Squire because there's really no reason for it not to have it at 10.
The penetration the squire's electro pike has been decreased to 16, so as to make it more distinct from the Batman's electro bat.
Decoy drones now have mobility 5 so that they can actually emulate Knight Lite mechs properly.
The last mission made me think a lot about Decoy Drones and how they interacted with other aspects of the game, so I'm putting forth the following clarifications:
Decoy Drones do not trigger mines.
Hacking a Decoy's hightech systems will cause it not to act that turn. All other hack actions will do nothing but the hacking effect will still appear over the drone.
Decoys can perform fake attacks. These attacks are completely convincing but they always miss.
Enemy decoy drones do not necessarily appear as the same unit as their controller.
>Was the world champion

this truly is an unrealistic anime
Getting cards in the yu-gi-oh world is incredibly hard. While you can easily get pathetic monsters with 300-900 attack points, anything higher than that is rather rare, with cards above 2000 being all but impossible to find for sale since only a handful were ever printed.
We're talking about a world where only 4 blue eyes white dragons were ever printed.

Any advice on how to create continents/worlds? Whenever I try to draw a world map onInkarnateit never feels "right". It feels like I'm just dropping down entirely random shapes instead of creating a world that's both aesthetically pleasing and plausible (by which I don't mean per se that such a thing could happen in reality, just that it looks plausible enough not to be called out on its bullshit at first glance).
>>46316523
Try going for something aesthetically pleasing. Continents made of majestic sweeping lines with nice concave bays, and strings of archipelagos around jutting areas.
I haven't checked but there's probably a ton of generators on the net too. Gen up some for inspiration.
Do you have the game Civilization? Or any 4x game that makes a map of a planet? That's something you can use too.
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/1769395/
This is what I use to knock up a country/continent map on the quick. Probably better methods (and if anyone wants to post them I'm all for it), but it gets the job done.
As for making the shapes plausible/pleasing? From what I've tried and heard from others, it's more or less a combination of trial-and-error teaking and sheer dumb-luck. Sometimes something will look hopelessly shit but then you'll gently fiddle with one pointy bit and suddenly it's fucking LUSH.

Twilight Struggle is terrible. If the USSR successfully coups Iran in the first turn, the US is practically locked out of the Middle East and western Asia for the rest of the game unless they want to pay a prohibitively high price for parity which will then set them back in Africa and the Americas.

hello anon, we will start in a few minutes
If i want to simulate plate armor`s deflection bonus against cuts (like swordstrikes) , is it better to go with additional cut resistance or with armor-class deflection bonus?
I wanted to ask which would be the more realistic approach and gives more variation, assuming the system is abstract of course, but strictly realism-oriented in the end.
>>46314473
>If i want to simulate plate armor`s deflection bonus against cuts (like swordstrikes) ,
In my opinion a proper depiction would be that if the plate armor and the sword are made of materials that are roughly the same strength, then there is no cutting, period. Instead you can offer the player to aim for an unprotected area and give him an appropriate penalty on his to-hit roll (depending on the quality of the design of the armor).
If the blade is of a superior hardness then you...

with a strike hard enough and a weapon with enough mass behind it , it would at least dent the plates i guess. Poleaxes and bardiches existed for a reason
otherwise , i really like your idea. maybe i should split the damage into cut and impact? it would allow to beat someone unconcious through his metal helmet even if it dulls the edge.
>>46315571
>Poleaxes and bardiches
Hacking and cutting are two different kinds of attack. Late medieval swords weren't balanced to hack anything much. Axes and bardiches were top-heavy and thus give themselves naturally to a hacking motion.
Of course, for swords no one should forget that halfswording and mordhau exist.
