Alright folks, looks like we are bashing the last of the Genestealer Cult resistance. We should consider doing a status report.

1d4Chan: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Campaign:Penal_regiment_designation_/tg/

Steam Group: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/40k_penal_regiment.

FAQ:
>What the fuck is this?
Somewhat a campaign of crack-infused free-form roleplay in the grim darkness of the far future.

>When do you guys make these threads?
Usually mondays at 2PM GMT, but they sometimes extend to Tuesdays if we got caught in the middle of something when the thread died and it was too late to make another one the same day.

>Can I join in?
Sure, just think of a character and have fun, you can find most info in 1d4chan albeit it's ussually a little bit out of date in comparison to where the threads are.

>Is there any requirement in character creation.
Not really, we've had Xeno infiltrators, Chaos infiltrators, Villains, Heroes, Normal Guardsmen, Crazed Guardsmen, Assassins, Psykers, Space Marines, Inquisitors, Squats... just think whathever and join the fun.

>Is it allowed to have more than a single character?
Yes as long as you don't use it to powerplay.

>So how you guys do the playan'?
We tend to use spoilers for OOC chat, but nothing is set in stone.
We tend to use greentexts for describing a character's actions, but again nothing is set in stone.
Use d20s for combat checks and d100s for other things you want to roll, higher Is better.
It's important to know that the regiment is now in the employ of a radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor, with influence from an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor and under the watch of an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor. Yes we've been through a lot of shit.

Starting up a new game of D&D, we all ended up rolling a bunch of greediest and most self-centered murderhobos that ever went around - by tossing away the "murder" part. Why would you kill all those dungeon dwellers when you could get some additional profit by capturing them and selling them off as pets and slaves?

Now we want to know how to capture everything. Sure, shit like rats and goblins are simple enough, but what about slimes or molds, or ghosts and zombies, or gargoyles or gorgons, or all the even weirder shit that our DM (who finds the concept hilarious btw) is going to throw at us sooner or later? How do we capture all of those? How do we get out of a dungeon hauling up ghosts and succubi and gelatinous cubes and their ilk? Any good thoughts on how to best beat up the inevitable boss monster to near-death without actually killing them? Where's the market for all these suckers? And how can we expect the economy and the world around us to change to accommodate all this bullshit?

Each question someone at the table throws at the rest of us complicates matters, yet intrigues us and makes us all the more invested in doing this. We decided it couldn't hurt to hear whether /tg/'s got some good ideas to throw at our direction, too. Would be much appreciated.

sounds like a fun concept OP.
as for how the economy adapts I think it would be best to play this in a setting were ''monster slavers'' are already a thing, this way all the infrastructure of selling creatures and getting jobs is already in place.
for all the speciality monster captures aybe look with your DM for some specialised abjuration magic(items) such as a spell or chain that makes a ghost corporeal for some time or freezes a slime solid ready to be sold
>>
The gelatinous cubes can probably be frozen. If you cut off a horse's dick, put it on a stick and you can lure the succubi out of the dungeon.
Undead should be trivial. If you don't have an evil cleric to mind-control them, you should have a wizard to cast Control Undead.

Who to sell the stuff to? Most of the harmless critters can be handed to random guys who're rich enough to pay for them. The military might also be interested in a variety of monsters to train the troops with, and finally there's always your evil overlords who're always happy to take the beasts off of you.

But you see, you don't actually have to sell them. After you've defeated the residents of a dungeon you can sell the owner a protection racket. She'll need her minions to collect the money to pay you with, and if she's short on cash you can bully her and poke her inappropriately until she cries and begs for mercy.
>>

If monster slavers aren't a thing already, they will soon be as you start to make gold.

Rate my setting, /tg/
>It's a perfectly spherical hollow 100,000 light years in diameter, with the walls being made of dirt and rock that extend outwards beyond any depth people have dug to. There's a galaxy large enough that the outer stars are as far away from the inner surface as Earth is from the sun inside, spinning around the centre of the hollow sphere. Because of this, the entire inner surface is covered in Earth-like environments.
tl:dr?
It's Earth, but inverted, and large enough to hide a galaxy inside.

I think there should be one change to your setting.

The man on the left is hitler and the women on the left is sarah palin and that structure is something built by nazi's.

How do characters in a magical high-fantasy world manage to maintain their sanity when reason and causality are constantly being violated all around them? Shouldn't they have to make difficult SAN checks when a sorcerer invites them into his house made of yellow and offers them a glass of time?

Any D&D game you can just drop in and out of isn't a game that's worth playing.

See: all the "organized" games like Pathfinder Society
>>
The closest I can think is the Fabletop website, where games are simple and short, and can be pretty fun if you can find a good group. You gotta work on your commitment though.

Suggest to me a cool fantasy setting where card games are SERIOUS BUSINESS.

Hard mode: you have to want to use it for a roleplaying campaign

Nightmare mode: cards don't actually hold any special power.

Use OOC and ask someone for help on how to play. People will almost always help you get a grip of the game if you're polite about it, just don't reveal too much in-round information in OOC.

Funnily enough the Trump board game is actually a slightly improved version of monopoly so its not actually 100% terrible.
>>
Answering to my own questions to get the party started.

> What did you play this week? Describe in detail.
We played StarCraft twice on Sunday. A friend rolled his own scenario and much fun was had. I'm probably going to number-crunch it more so that it's balanced but we had fun. It was a 3v2, sides and objectives are imbalanced (but a team always loses when of of their team mates loses)

> Recent purchases or purchase plans?
Not actively looking for anything right now. Might grab a couple of expansions to the games I have, though.

Imperial Settles got stale and I think the Atlantis expansion could help.
Kemet - well I like the base game so getting an explansion is no brainer.
Neuroshima: Hex - getting a little less love nowadays so trying to reinvigorate it.
> Ask a bgg related question.

Improved monopoly isn't setting the bar high, though.
>>

Most recent play was 4 rounds of Memoir 44, two Allied and two Axis wins. My favourite was as Axis in the Liberation of Paris scenario, the chokepoint in the right section managed to beat back any Allied units trying to pass through there, letting me get a 5 - 0 medal win pretty quickly.

Post game I found out my friend didn't know how to use/wasn't willing to bet on the special cards he had though (he only had one normal section movement card in his hand), so after teaching him a bit, we had a rematch playing the same sides, and he won at 5 - 4 with a "if this happens I win, if not you win" situation.

Setup for Memoir 44 is still a pain though. I've written a point system using Battlelore 2nd edition as a guideline for unit costs, and modified a terrain placement thing from bgg, maybe I'll try that next time.

>Purchase plans?
I've played Jaipur with my mom so much we've basically lost interest in it, so I've been looking for similar games.
Archaeology the New Expedition(?) seems pretty similar to Jaipur, and lets you play for 2p+ too, so definitely waiting for that.
Arboretum also looks solid for 2p, but I worry if the scoring might be too complicated.
Still waiting for my FLGS to get Cthulhu Realms, hopefully the symbols and stuff wouldn't be too confusing for a senior citizen.
Have had my eye on Roll for the Galaxy for a while, so getting that once it's in stock.
Blueprints for a lighter dice game, though again scoring seems somewhat complicated.

>bgg question.
Do you have games that fill particular needs or niches that your group may have? If so what are they?

>Answer above
>What's your group like?
They're old friends, and although they're not too crazy about the whole board gaming thing, they're pretty willing to try any of the games I have when they have time. Thanks to that all of my games have been brought to the table atleast once, so I'm thankful for that.

What are your thoughts on a cyberpunk civ, with the races like Illithids, Undead, Crystallids, Animalgirls, etc besides human coming from genetic experiments?
323 posts and 47 images submitted.
>>
>>46163105
You mean sci-fi civ? Because the trappings of cyberpunk don't usually lend themselves well to a civ thread.

That said, explaining that the races come from sci-fi instead of fantasy is just dressing up really. They're still animalgirls and Illithids regardless of whether they're genetic experiments or fantasy races.
>>
>>46163243
There'd probably be corrupt megacivs and we'd most likely be in race based clans underground.
Although a SciFi civ sounds interesting and fresh as well.
>>
i was thinking of running something that will eventually lead to spess civ. I'm planning of running some short civs as a worldbuilding experiment and to decide the space races and their pro/mals.

Hit me up with ideas if you've gor them. I'm about to hit the sack but I'll gladly read them tomorrow after work

Let's share some PDFs!
