How do you make a good hermit NPC?
>>46276837
Well hermits come in all shapes and sizes. Hermits might be antisocial or insane. Or, hermits might actually like other people but be seeking solitude for spiritual reasons. A hermit might not even be a hermit out of choice, but have had it imposed or be doing it as some kind of self-sacrifice.
Hermits often resent the company of other people, especially unexpected company. Because of this hermits are often sullen and pissy when encountered, but there's no reason you couldn't do a polite, urbane hermit.
In the end I guess the answer to your question is "make a good NPC, and then make them a hermit".
>>46276837
If he was a good hermit the PCs would never meet him.
>>46276837
I've based a couple hermit characters off Thomas Covenant.

It is the Year of our Lord, 1135
And it is the eve of war.
In the holy kingdom of Jerusalem, a war host gathers. Ships dock in Jaffa, unloading foreign troops set for glory. They carry the banner of the Count of Foix, the holy emblem of the archbishop of Trier, company symbols of Genoa. French, Italian, German banners, swelled by the ranks of foreign adventurers from every corner of Christendom. And with these warriors come their attendants. Squires and camp followers, smiths, seamstresses, fletchers, surgeons, herders and looters and all manner of tag-a-longs that make this growing army a swarm of human life.
Others gather in Ramla. They came in fists, a handful at a time slowly overrunning the town. Templars, hospitallers, nobles and commoners, the priests and the layfolk. Breeding a camp town beyond the walls of the small town. Come to fight in the war planned by the lord of Ramla himself, Wilhelm. Their target, the sea-fortress of Egypt, Ascalon.
Eyes from every realm fall on the events unfolding in the holy land. Popes, kings, patriarchs and emperors, sit up to take note. Lords of Christ and Mohammed pause to consider the news that reaches them from these obscure ports. Storm clouds gather off the coast of Palestine, and the thunder is heard throughout the land.
Caught in the heart of all this are three siblings: Lord Wilhelm, his sister Mathilde, their half-brother Hugo.
You are:

Hey /tg/
I used to be into Dnd, and trying to get back into it.
My friend told me to use 4.5e books but I Don't know which ones to get or where I can get them for cheap (or free, I have no money, so pdfs are welcome)
Also, if you have any good crash courses I'd appreciate that.
Also: general discussion.
Thanks.

go to the 5eg thread.
The subject title is something of an oxymoron. In the world of Exalted, the existence of the Divine is not in question: The Gods can and do give blowjobs.
What I need is a term for those that do not worship. I'm not talking about a Yozi cultist that claim the Gods do not deserve to be worshipped but that the fallen Primordials do. I need a term that describes the philosophical stance that divine and supra-divine entities exist, that we owe our very existence to them, but that nonetheless they do not deserve to be worshipped.
I tried taking this question to an english language forum, and all it did was devolve into endless questions and answers about what Exalted is, and wether or not it sucks, and all without actually answering my damn question.

How do you construct a good Rescue Adventure, and in particular how would you get your players to care strongly about rescuing a person they've never met? Is there something that screams "rescue me"?
>>46274744
Some GMs try what they think is the easy route by making the captive the subject of rapes and extreme torture. However it just makes players uncomfortable and some of them will suspect magical realm. Don't do this.
Having the captive introduced earlier in the campaign and actually be a major help to the players can be useful, especially if they conspired with the players in some way.
It's also good if they're not just a passive victim. If they can get regular messages out, perhaps increasingly urgent ones, and coordinate with the players to some limited degree, it makes them a lot more than just a living McGuffin.
A large sum of money and priceless magical family heirlooms for the return of loving daughter from (insert plot device here)
Most players would literally rescue anything if you let them.
Princess? Sure. Peasant girl? Okie doke. Old man no one likes? Well, someone has to rescue him. A scarecrow stuffed with wasp nests? Sorry, didn't hear you, already strappin' on my rescuin' boots. The villain they captured and locked up themselves? Well, he sent out a "please rescue me" note on very nice piece of parchment, it would be rude to not at least break him out of Hell Jail.
Just try to stat me, /tg/!

Hey all, work continues on the translations of these classic Brazilian games. I'm translating 3D&T Fastplay, a rules super-light generic RPG with a anime-esque feel to it. Currently, I've finished through chapter 8 (Rules), so most of the important stuff.
Another Anon is working on 3D&T Alpha, a more detailed version of the game that's continued to be updated. His work is posted here:

Bumping for interest, I haven't had a lot of time to look over it, but is it possible to play a necromancer in this system?

Hey guys, Space Marine player here.
Back with another track.
But this time I am no longer making fun of the Black
Legion nor the Tau or Orks for that matter
'cuz I've come to realize that it's whack.
So I stand before you seeking redemption,
Changing direction,
And win back affection
Of the noble soldiers of the Greater Good
Joining their cause just like I should.
>>46274408
Psych.
Just frakking kidding.
Klovis the Redeemer did nothing wrong...
...and neither have I.
Riding through the hive with my "Promethium Blessing"
The screams intensify while the Chaos lives lessen
The Moon's gaze scours the streets of mutant filth:
The Moon's glazed with the blood of the mutants spilt.
The Moon's unfazed by all the blood of these mutants killed
Because the Witch's doom is the will of God-Emperor's tome
And hopefully soon I'll fill a million tombs
Comprised of heretic men, women and children,
And embark on pilgrimage to slaughter by billions:
Remove vermin with discipline
Galactic reach,
Sadistic speech herding listeners of innocents
And turning them into the Emperor's holy instruments.
Note the dissent against the Tau Empire's quest
Show the ignorant the sins of Xenos pests
And those blueberry breasts, among the Human fight
Assist the heresy to crush the Imperium's might.
[Moon Marine, I've had enough of your gibberish!
When will you see that there are bigger fish?
It's not the mutants, the Tau or the Orks,
It's the Tyranids who are the real danger!]
Shut the frak up and your Xeno limericks:
No glimmer of wit will save your blue Tau skin.
Never interrupt a Space Marine when he's talking:
That's right... turn around and keep walking.
Burn the mutant, purge the Tau
Kill the Ork and the Tyranids too
Hang the Traitors, flail the Elves
Save our planets from the Tau's grasp
Cleanse the mutant, nuke the Tau
Cook what is left, into a stew.
Feed hungry children all over Hive worlds-
What the "Greater Good" has grown into!
>>46274443
Now the real fun starts as witches start stumbling
Wondering what they did to deserve this suffering
Mutteringly bitching, "Moon Marine please stop"
Droppin' bolter shots as I chainsword their knees off.
You thought that you could escape the Emperor's wrath?
You thought it would be over when the Orks bled and the Tau dead?
Now the ruse ends- ha, you're a loose end-
That's what we do to those whose powers are unsanctioned.
Or that's what you're led to believe by the chosen few
Fed the potions they brew and the poison they spew
Since the moment when they told men the notion
That playing with the Warp is okay, give in to your emotion
Is the moment they got complete control over you
And through their hold of the mainstream news
And their heretical clues
Shifted mainstream views
Changed the ways we knew.
Kill the Mutant, bomb the Tau
Delete the AI and the Necrons too
Burn the Traitors, ignore the Elves
Suffer not the daemon to live.
Jail the Mutants, overthrow the Tau,
Respect your culture and heritage too.
Teach the children in the Schola Progenium
The sleazy ways of the scheming heretic.
Shout out to all of my fellow Battle Brothers:
Our final stand has yet to come!
And for all you filthy Tyranids wondering why I have left you untouched,
It's because you slimy bug lizards make it so easy that I don't even have to.
But your time is coming too.
Soon.

so far ideas for boys i have had are Alexander, Hercule, and Arthur. any opinions?
Let's make a setting!
Ideas:
Animals have ascended to human-level intelligence, but still behave like animals (Foxes kill and eat rabbits, crows still hoard shiny objects).
The Rabbits have burrowed down into the depths of the earth, creating massive collective warrens.
The Wolves are a warrior culture living in the snowy forests of the north, collecting into small tribes.
The Octopus have vanished off the face of the earth, leaving strange idols and arcane technology behind.
TL;DR grimdark fantasy zootopia
>>46273498
How is carnivore confusion avoided? Is eating other creatures accepted as a fact of life, or are the meat eaters cruel? Do they eat a class of non sapient animals?
Anyway, the bats live in a republican alliance with owls. They have a superiority complex due to being the only flying mammals
It depends on the species. For most herbivores and omnivores, consuming the flesh of other animals is looked upon as a evil act. For predators, however, it is simply a fact of life.
>>46273930
Makes sense
Historically most cultures were proud of victimizing other peoples. Raiding other tribes was normal, but someone taking YOUR cattle was evil and unrighteous
What if we get a new format that's Legacy with no reserve list cards? Would you be interested in that?
If that happens, what cards do you think would spike in price/demand? Here are my predictions, with explanations:
Shock Lands: Let's start with the obvious. With no original duals, these would be the go-to replacements. Expected price range: $22-25 for the blues and Tomb, $18-20 for the others.
Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx: In Elves, this would most likely replace the absent Gaea's Cradle. Expected price $15-18:
Eye of Ugin/Eldrazi Temple: With the incoming bans in Modern, these two are sure to plummet. However, if this new proposed eternal format does become a reality, these two lands would once again rise to prominence in a relevant format. Expected Price: $35-40 Eye, $5-8 Temple.
These are just a few examples. What else do you guys think would see a rise in price/demand? Would you play a format like this? Let me know what you guys think!
>>46272914
>What if you get out of your cave and let the meme die?
>>46272914
It would be an extremely shitty version of Legacy with less diversity. Miracles loses nothing and would still be the best deck. Merfolk, Burn and Infect would also be good. The format overall could be described as linear monocolor strategies vs Force of Will decks, the same thing people hate about Modern.
Fetchlands, Force, Jace and Wasteland would soar in price even more than they already have, until our Chinese friends help collapse the format.
>>46277787
>Help collapse?
what? they are the ones that keep legacy and vintage alive!
Welcome, anyone who cares, to a Q&A session for the setting of Exorcism Quest! In this thread, I'll be providing information on the backstory and setting of Exorcism Quest to anyone who's interested! To begin with, I'll explain the basics of the setting.
Warning: Big ol' Explanation. Tl;dr will be provided if you don't want to read exposition.
In the world of Exorcism Quest, the world ran more or less the way the real world did. However, one day, the very fabric of the world tore. Nobody's sure how it happened, but when it did, the physical world and the afterlife became inexorably linked.
This moment is known as "The Weakening". In the wake of The Weakening, four beings appeared before the people of the world, and made an announcment.
These were the Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse. They claimed to be the true powers of the Afterlife, and protectors of the Spirit World. Though before they'd practiced isolation from the physical world, they promised to help protect both worlds from unwanted intruders.
To do so, they established four Great Churches, to War, Conquest, Famine and Death. Each church offered a power to its most devoted adherents, and this began the tradition of Exorcists, mortals empowered to do combat with even the most dangerous of Spirits.
Tl;dr: The physical and spirit world got linked way in the past. The Four Horsemen claimed to be the rulers of the Spirit World, and offered Humanity a way to fight against Spirit intruders. These protectors of humanity are Exorcists.
Now then, I'm perfectly open to answer any questions people may have about the setting!
Aren't the Four Horsemen supposed to be cast into the Abyss?
>>46272881
Not in this setting. They're pretty much the Guardians of Heaven in this setting. It's divided into four segments, based on personality and/or faith, and the Horsemen guard one of those four segments.
They've claimed repeatedly to not actually be God/Gods. But they refuse to say who's in charge.
The Churches they run were originally a method to train Exorcists, but at this point they've been used for full-out worship of the Horsemen.
>>46273033
Why don't they combine to form one large organization?

Here's the list of the not completely awful pirate games I know of.
Poison'd (see pic, a nice game where skullfucking your enemies is encouraged)
GURPS Swashbucklers
40k Rogue Trader (pirates...IN SPACE!)
7th sea
Furry pirates (exactly what it says on the tin)
Pavillon Noir (in french)
SimulacreS - Captain Vaudou (also in french)
I'm DMing Numenera right now. As a DM, I never have a "correct" path for the players. I always have a backdrop and several plot hooks to choose from their own way, yet they STILL wait around for an indication as to where they're "supposed" to go.
This is so infuriating. Does /tg/ have any advice on this matter?
>>46272322
Find or encourage a player to make a character that is actually self-motivated, that has a want beyond kill the baddies, take their stuff, rescue the (correct) princess. Have them come up with something for them to work towards, be it recognition, titles, land, honors, or what have you.
>>46272322
Sadly not. I have the same problem.
Or I would, if I hadn't established a noble patron for them who can always find something for them to do.
The patron is sort of morally dubious, but they go to him because it's "easy".
I'm starting to wonder what consequences this noble having a band of powerful mercenaries practically at his beck and call should have.
I plan a session out just a few days before I actually hold it, that way I can account for previous events. I have a FB group for our game where I posted several strange happenings they could investigate with the addendum "Please discuss your plans here."
I reminded everyone a few days ago by text message to use the FB page. I only JUST NOW got a post basically saying "Let's do hook B, I guess." The session is tomorrow at noon, so I have to plan shit out by then.
