Hey all newish Dm here and I need some advice. I have a player in my campaign who made another player sign a Contract detailing what his role will be in the party and such which is fine I don't mind that it ads to the role play factor, but there are times where he holds up the campaign for everyone cause he argues about the contract. He also spends every moment of the campaign second guessing my decisions as DM cause he memorized all the rule books. The main focus of my campaign is for people to learn 5e and I brought him in originally to help people learn and all he does is talk down and berate them. I've tried talking to him about this and he hasn't changed his behavior. What should I do as Dm to rectify this issue?

Let's clarify a couple things. Firstly, was this a contract between the 'characters' or between the 'players'? If it was between characters then just let them roleplay it out, maybe drop hints to have someone arbitrate in game. If it's between players then you need to step in and rip that fucking contract into shreds. There's rules lawyering autism, which is annoying but manageable, and then there is this. You are letting this one player dictate the game because you don't feel as comfortable with the rules as they do.

Stop, take a breath, and repeat after me; "I am the DM. The rules are in place to help me, they are subject to my whims, I am not a prisoner to them in letter or in spirit." And it's the truth. You need to assert control. If you want to play a RAW game then sit down and familiarize yourself more with the rules, but otherwise just enjoy the game and if something comes up you're not sure on - crack open the book and find the answer.

In fact, after typing this all out I'm more inclined to just say boot that player or tell them that they can either rip up the contract and approach the game as an equal and worthwhile player or they can fuck off.

In 40k, can dead bodies be turned into Servitors? This picture would seem to indicate as such. Or is that only a Chaos thing?

Is it only the recent dead?
22 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
You need them to be still alive enough to be turned into a servitor. Then they're more or less mechanical, until they 'break down' as the organic parts stop functioning.
>>
Generally I think you have to be alive to be Servitorized. For the soul.

The reason why that one looks dead, is because why the fuck would you care what a servitor looks like? Especially a combat model.
>>
30k mechanicum could do it, but it was considered on the knife edge of tech heresy.

Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you crept around a library in pursuit of ancient knowledge.

It is currently the 29th of Svarthi, in the year 936 NH.

You retreat around the corner, pressing your back into the cold stone wall of the ancient chamber and channeling Metal to obscure your thoughts. You feel a pulse of vys, and suddenly find that you can no longer perceive the man who'd been searching for you. The skeletal outline of his limp form sketched by the soft suscitations of his breath has simply vanished from the floor where it lay.

His attacker's delicate footsteps carve out an image of the figure in your mind's eye. They are thin to the point of being gaunt and their once elaborately wrought robes have been rendered threadbare by the passage of ages. The creak of a hinge reveals to you an outline of the shelves along the left side of the room, and a few seconds later the weighty thud of a door closing sketches out in vagueries a small room beyond.

You wait, half expecting the figure to appear around the corner to drag you off with the Vatis who'd been stalking you. After a time you creep slowly up to the corner and peek your head around, relieved to find that the ancient samjan seems to be truly gone, and not simply lying in wait for you. Your eye is drawn once more to the shrine at the end of the hidden room, shielded as it is by a glowing barrier.

(1/2)
>>
The heavy wooden door through which the strange figure vanished is shrouded behind a set of heavy velvet curtains, and you watch it with a wary eye as you slip around the corner. You've no way of knowing how long you have to ransack the library unmolested, but if you're going to try and get past that barrier now would be the time to do so.

>Perhaps you can disassemble the enchantment generating the barrier?
>Screw this nonsense, you came here for a casual browse through the library. Sneak out while you still can.
>They say curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back. You have to know what lies on the other side of that door.
>You don't want to risk attracting the ancient's attention by disturbing the barrier, but perhaps you might find something of value hidden amongst the shelves.

When was the last time you played this game? Does it really deserve all the hate it gets when it's played correctly?

I ask because my girlfriend's friends want to play it this weekend. Don't know what to expect. My only memories from this game are being crashed by my grandpa in elementary school.

Monopoly is exactly as bad as everyone says it is. That being said, there are a few things you should be prepared for.

1. Figure out in advance whether they have any house rules before you start playing. People generally have preconceived notions about how that game should be played, so you'll want to be prepared. Note that some of these house rules, such as a fairly popular one of putting all taxes/fees that would normally go to the bank on Free Parking, generally screw the game up even more.

2. Work out a time limit in advance. Occasionally, Monopoly games can drag on for hours on end, which leads to lots of bitterness, regret, and boredom. I personally suggest two hours, with whoever having the most assets at that point being declared the winner.

3. Don't take things too seriously. Monopoly, with it's cutthroat nature, has been the bane of many a relationship. Don't be that guy who's bitter for the next week because your girlfriend duped you into a bad trade.
>>
>>46313310
>is exactly as bad as everyine says it is

That's a real bummer. You would think after years of the game being around, they would work out the kinks.

I've also heard house rules ruin the game, so I told them it's an must to stick with the rules in the book.

The flavor text on this card references a heron, which is the only flight of angels that haven't gone crazy, and moon, which guessing by the name of the next set holds quite a bit of significance. No idea about the shrew though. Thoughts?

the innistradi moon is said to have a heron in it. The prophet is decrying this.

The moon also is made of silver which has the ability to trap evil within it.
>>
>>46312287
There's some sort of Horror in the moon. I doubt it's Eldrazi, since they've been hinting at some Horror tribal next set.

There's probably some ancient weird thing from Innistrad that's been trapped in there forever.

The rules:
>Starting with the following decklist, remove one card and replace it with a card that improves the deck.

Rather wanted to see what a collaborative effort might look like. I know what I would build, what would "we" build, is interesting.

In several of the 40k faction creation threads, there's been mention of creating a unified sector for /tg/, including the things recently collaborated on like the Hua Yuan and Sanguine Shields etc.

The overall tone should be a good level of serious, to prevent degeneration into the old Tiji Sector.

So starter questions:
>What's the sector called?
I know there's been opposition to anything self-referential. Ludotrade is a placeholder.
>Which Segmentum Majoris is it in?
I know that the Hua Yuan pretty much rely on being Eastern Fringe.
>Are we a sector on the offence or the defence?
Are we suffering being surrounded by Waaaghs, Black Crusades, Hive Fleets and a sphere of expansion? Or are we crusading to reclaim our lost worlds from the traitor and xenos?
>Is there a warp storm?
Warp storms seem to feature heavily in a lot of the recent stuff, so would be a good addition.

Any additions by anybody are welcome, but highly detailed ones are Very welcome.

And anything else really. Thoughts?
326 posts and 31 images submitted.
>>
Why not add some more exotic xenos threats than orks and tyranids for a change?

Why not have the sector been subject to a Hrud migration some millennia ago, so that most of it's hives and the sector fleet have all been infested ever since?

Perhaps have a Q'orl invasion fleet. They're from Pacificus, I think, not the fringe, but they're supposed to be highly aggressive expansionists on the verge of reverse-engineering imperial warp technology, so they could well have ended up wherever.

Work will set you free.
But then it actually does.
>>
>slavery is used as a punishment for severe criminals
>slavery is only temporary, e.g. for murdering someone you're sentenced to 40 years of slavery but not for life
>slaves still get basic human rights, owners of slaves must feed them sufficient nutrition and basic living spaces
>physical punishment must not be so extreme as to cause debilitating injuries

this is probably more lawful neutral but it's an example of how a character may justify slavery as a concept and still be non-evil
>>
Depends on the society and kind of slavery. When jailhouses are too much of a hassle to build and maintain why not make the crimebreaker into a slave for a while? It's like community service but someone owns them.

Same with the asshole who doesn't pay taxes or his debts.

It only gets straight up evil if the slavery is indefinite with no way out and your kids are born slaves too.

Sweet lady lich who basically acted like a doting grandmother to her undead army, and even to the party while they tried to foil her schemes. Never killed any of us when she easily could have because she saw potential in any/all of us to be turned into evil overlords just like her. Our GM played her with enough of a balance of being sympathetic, mad, and insidious, that we didn't regret eventually killing her to cap off the bulk of the adventure, but we started missing her. It was a good run.
